A few days ago, I was watching a film about the life of a singer, and I thought, why doesn't someone make one about Freddie?
I think it'd be a good idea, a charter of the life of the worlds best ever musician, from his childhood in zanzibar to his death in 1991.
Does anyone else like the idea? If so, do you think they could do it well? And who would play who (maybe the real Brian and Roger?)
Freddie Mercury, the Untold Story was included in the Freddie Mercury The Solo Collection. It was the story of his life from birth to death, with interviews from family and friends.
Well yeah, but I mean like
Films like this: link
You know, dramatisations, but obviously based on real events. (Films such as the benny goodman story, the frank sinatra story, etc etc)
This probably sounds corny, but I've always thought a good name for something like this could be "Prince of the Universe: The Freddie Mercury Story" (Uber-corny)
I hate the idea of filming the life of Freddie Mercury.
Why?
Because I'm convinced that it can not be done good enough.

No, bad idea. I would hate thinking of the person who acts as him and not the real person whenever I thought of Freddie. It's like when you imagine what people look like in books and then when you watch the film you can NEVER remember what you thought they looked like before. Strange example, but still, there is only one Freddie and I don't think anybody else even acting can portray that great man.

I disagree. So long as the focus primarily on the musical side, and not on the side such as his illness, or his personal sexual preferences, (Although they must be mentioned, there crucial points) I think it could be a tastefully done film.
It's weird, this year a ton of biopic films have been made about famous music artists...all with great expectations..but the ONLY one that did great and both fans and critics loved was Ray about Ray Charles.
I had high hopes for Beyond The Sea about Bobby Darrin and it FLOPPED, and everypne hated Kevin Spacey in it.
Now they're talking about doing Janis Joplins' story with Pink...which alot of people are BIG TIME against..especially since Bette Midler did a "loose" portrayal of her mixed in with Bette's own life in "The Rose" which was outstanding (I LOVE Bette in that film).
Yet Diana Ross got very mixed reviews for her portrayal of the legendary Billie Holiday. She got an Oscar nomination, but fans and critics of Billie thought Diana's portrayal was AWFUL and blasphemic.
Biopics are real chancy...you have to get the right actor/actress...get the story down where it nails more than anything else, what drives their talent and made them so fascinating while not being tabloid in nature, or at the same time, gloss over their life with rose colored glasses.
Freddie was SO legendary and larger than life...I really can't see any actor or even music artist I can think of...giving Freddie's story and portrayal justice.
