Now and then, when someone asks us to list our five favorite Queen songs, A Kind of Magic always resides in that top 5 for me. But after hearing the Madrid version, I have to suggest that Q+PR remove it from the setlist. I absolutely adore the song, and I give Paul all the respect and credit in the world, but this song does not suit his style. Compare the clumsiness of this song as compared to his versions of Alright Now and FLML. He is in total control and very powerful. I totally appreciate the fact that AKOM is new to him, and I applaud his effort, but once I played the performance over and over, it was the one song I think only Freddie could deliver. It makes me think instantly of his version of it at both Wembley and Vienna- two of my favorite Queen moments ever....It was wonderful to hear the crowd sing along with every word, and equally joyous to hear Brian's guitar work and Roger's drumming on this for the first time together since '86. But I would just like to see this song dropped in favor of something from the Queen canon that Paul could really sink his teeth into (Headlong, Keep Yourself Alive), or even by a Bad Company/Free song.....Your thoughts?
I agree 100% I also think they should drop 'I Want To Break Free', and add either Now I'm Here, Keep Yourself Alive, It's Late, or Sleeping On The Sidewalk. I think Paul would just be amazing on these tunes.
