Well after the miracle and the fair success it had after such a long wait we were all wondering when the next album would be released if ever by their releases of late so low and behold late december 1990 after a quiet year for queen apart from the brits outstanding contribution award which should how well received and liked they were also showed a very thin and aged freddie mercury,i'm sure at that time it was like f***K what's wrong with him?are the rumours true? etc.. we had a preview of the new single and on first hearing it i thought this is something different a total departure in sound from miracle and over 6 and a half minutes long i was totally impressed with innuendo great vocals, great guitars and an unusual flamenco/spanish guitar middle section and on first hearing it thought wahay good job bri until knowing it was actually steve howe of Yes playing a blinder when visting montreux i was left wanting a lot more bijou being the b-side gave a brian led guitar track with serene freddie vocals food for thought anxiously waiting for the album. February 4th 1991 release of innuendo bought on morning of release played it through that day man what a album great track to open the album I'm going slightly mad was odd to listen to to at first but nonetheless grew on me headlong typical queen rocker,i cant live with you great song DTSH took me by surprise lovely ballad with again great vocals Ride the wild wind good all god's people okay if you like that sort of thing These are the days fantastic song what more can be said about it delilah just freddie loving his cats and a then the hitman full blown queen blinding guitar work freddie's vocals again fantastic bijou aforementioned and then the show must go on ending a great album that in my opinion puts the miracle in the shade. What happens after we all know about and it give the album a much deeper meaning some songs are full of apprehensions and thoughts obviously to do with freddie's ailing condition but to deliver vocals of that magnutude in that state shows true bravery, courage and the thoughts of a man who didn't give a shit that he was dying and deliver time after time heart rendering powerful vocals makes this album the classic that it is and nearly closes the book on queen's recording career until the next time....... |

Your post explains basically why Innuendo is considered by most of us as one of Queen's best albums. Although 'Deliliah' doesn't quite meet the standards of the album, I still consider it a kinda cute track. Trust me, the song would have never made it into the final cut if it wasn't for Freddie's condition. |

Innuendo is probably my 3rd favorite Queen Album behind ANATO, ADATR. It's brilliant...if Freddie had NOT been ill. The entire album, on levels of songwriting, the depth and meaning of the songs, the ENDURING QUALITY and BEAUTY of songs such as TATDOOL, The Show Must Go On, Innuendo (which not only has a serious message about injustice and intolerance...but is an epic masterpiece of music right up there with BoRhap), even throwing in a firestorm rocker typical of Queen's best with Headlong, the strength and power of the emotionally imbued vocals by Freddie, the majesty of Brian's playing, the sublime cohesion of Roger & John's playing, Like I said, if Freddie had NOT been ill, taken on its own artistic merit, achievment, qualities, this album would rank as #3 for me. It's that brilliant. But throw in that Freddie was near death, getting sicker and his condition was getting worse as the album continued being written and recorded. Think of how Freddie was in physical and emotional pain, under diress and stress... ...and something no one ever brings up or addresses is that you have to throw in that Brian, Roger & John all were ALSO in their own dire emotional pain and stress with worry over Freddie...and out of all of this....came a work of art; of fire and beauty with timeless resolute rapture and meaning...informed with hope, faith, love, life. Utter Magnificence. |

What can I say? My favourite album. I think Freddie returned to his top songwriting shape on it. "Innuendo", "Slightly Mad", "Don't Try So Hard", "All God's People", "Bijou" - what more can you ask? Oh yes, "A Winter's Tale", I know. |

<b><font color = "crimson">ThomasQuinn wrote: So? The songs were still influenced by Freddie's being ill. Remember, at the time they believed he would not live to see the release! My point is Freddie was sick during the songwriting and recording for BOTH The Miracle, and Innuendo. The Miracle was a weak effort, Innuendo Queen's finest hour. Freddie's illness informed Queen and both records...one record is bad, one record is good. So while his illness may have directly informed some things like the lyrical content obviously of TADOOL or TSMGO, the songs still could have sucked, been poorly written, or as discussed in the Topic about the song No One But You, trite...but those songs weren't they are brilliant. So here you have 2 records done under the SAME circumstances...and look at the total differences in quality between the 2. Whcih shows that Innuendo...on its own merit...is Brilliant. I only meant that seeing as how much sicker Freddie was by the time Queen did Innuendo..it makes it that much remarkable that he, Brian, Roger, & John stepped up to the plate...and triumphed. But the album is a triumph...regardless of Freddie's condition. I am being objective because I know how sick Freddie was when they did The Miracle, but I am honest I don;t like the record and it's a major dissapointment. I applaud Freddie and the band for giving it their all on that. I'm sure he was feeling in pain with stress and worry when The Miracle was done as well, And I'm sure that Brian, Roger, & John were as overcome with stress and worry for Freddie when they recorded and wrote The Miracle, but the album just didn't flesh out to a great work. |

Gosh I agree with every wonderful thing you guys wrote about this incredible masterpiece. Brenda: I wouldn't really say that Freddie didn't give a shit about dying...He was the absolute life lover! OK he always said he didn't really want to become a man of 70 but.....I would say that he faced illness and death with such a pride, such courage and strength which allowed him to give us this beautiful, final gift. I can only hope to have a tenth of this courage and strength when I have to face my own death... Thank you Freddie!!! Fairy |

Flash00 what i meant was he knew he had aids and he just said he wanted to get on with life and record as much as possible because that was his life and his love. |

Interesting comments. I love Innuendo as an album, especially coming as it did, after the incredibly dissappointing album The Miracle. It's not my favourite album, but it'd be in the top 3 or 4. I do think however, there are a few weak songs on there, that really take away from the rest. Specifically, Delilah and on a secondary level All God's People and Hitman. (One of Freddie's isn't it? - horrible if you ask me) Particularly as these three songs are interspersed with three of the best songs ever written by Queen - TATDOOL, Bijou and TSMGO. Just for those three songs alone, this album is worth the money :) But a final comment. Personally, I find Innuendo the song, to be over-rated. I like it, but it has nothing on The Show Must Go On, the absolute standout track of the second half of Queen's career. But thank God for the album. I was close to writing Queen off after the debacle that was The Miracle. |

Daburcor? 06.04.2005 04:04 |
I can't say enough good about this album! It's my all-time favorite album. Period. Also, I for one place "The Miracle" in my top five Queen albums. So, Not EVERYONE hates it! :D |
mike hunt 06.04.2005 10:31 |
i agree, the miracles not queen's best, but it's still solid, for some reason if a album isn't a masterpiece everyone in these forums rip em apart. it shows how stupid they really are. how bad could an album be with songs, 'the miracle, i want it all, breathru, was it all worth it, scandel, queens best? no, as good as innuendo? no, but still great music, and just because a song has a pop disco sound doesn't mean it sucks, example is 'rain must fall' great guitars, drums, bass and vocals throughout that track. |

mike hunt wrote: for some reason if a album isn't a masterpiece everyone in these forums rip em apart. it shows how stupid they really are.Excuse me, Mike Hunt, your ignorance is showing :) People are not stupid for having an opinion different to your own. I stand by my opinion that The Miracle is one of Queen's weakest albums. But there is a thread for discussing the miracle: link Back to Innuendo. Great album. I could listen to Bijou 100 times in a row, it's that good. Have you had the debate about the meaning of Bijou on here? That's a good one.... |
Saint Jiub 06.04.2005 23:10 |
I put the Miracle In my top 5 and Innuendo in my bottom 5 of Queen albums. I find The Show Must Go On and Innuendo to be average Queen songs. That's how I feel - no apologies. |
mike hunt 07.04.2005 02:51 |
yea, my ignorance is showing for having an a opinion, my opinion is, most of the so called fans in these forum are utter gargege, and know nothing about music as a whole. i can't kill you for an opinion about an album, and you can't kill me for having my opinion about what's said in these forums. |

YES THEY ARE. Nah only kidding. Well, Miracle might be Queen's weaker or weakest album, but it still rates miles above most of the crap that other bands release. Really, even Queen at half throttle would still smoke most other people who put everything they have into their work. Having said that... INNUENDO! Great album. Out of all the albums that I put onto my computer for convenient listening, Innuendo is the only album that I got *EVERY* song from. The others, I just picked my favourites but Innuendo just happens to be an album where I can find something great in every song. Even songs I initially hated like Hitman and Ride the Wild Wind I have grown to love. And even Delilah, the song that most people find silly and out-of-place, I can appreciate. (Though the demo was awful). Anyway. Innuendo is great, and certainly should make up for whatever it is about Miracle that pisses *some* people off. |
Benny Faye 07.04.2005 11:34 |
I was only 4 when Innuendo came out and I can still remember going with my dad to the record store to pick it up. I listened to it non-stop back then, and to this day, it is still one of my favorite albums. However, I don't see any problem with Delilah. I love the guitar solo. Unrelatedly, Bijou and Don't Try So Hard always bring a tear to my eye. Although all the tracks are great, I would have prefered it if the I Can't Live With You rocks retake had been on the original cut. Though it wouldn't have been possible. |
queenfan2005 07.04.2005 12:44 |
For my Innuendo it is one of the albums that really makes since a special sense it is the I finish of QUEEN with Freddie and for that each one of the topics that the I interpret serious the I finish and the difficult thing that it was for singing for the avansado that had the illness and the knowledge that everybody would know it that it is not as simple as it seems it is an album that marks the end of a legend but it stops my pleasure it is the best GREETINGS |
doremi 07.04.2005 13:12 |
Innuendo is Queen's masterpiece and centerpiece. It rocks, it has depth, moumental landmark scope, utter conviction and meaning, emotion, power, passion. Headlong, Innuendo... It also gives the band closure but filled with hope..on TATDOOL and TSMGO. It resounds and rings true with Freddie's and the band's perhaps most triumphant final music document together and while it is unbearably sad, it proves ultimately a ray of soaring hope and radiant glory. |
Benny Faye 07.04.2005 14:36 |
In my opinion, Innuendo is the second A Night at the Opera. Too bad Made in Heaven, although pretty good, wasn't the second A Day at the Races. Alas, if only Freddie were still here... Which gets me to thinking... if Freddie hadn't gotten AIDS, or maybe if he had lived a bit longer, Queen would have survived grunge easy. They did over come punk when it hit. |
Daveboy35 07.04.2005 15:43 |
Innuendo is my joint favourite album tied with sheer heart attack and secondly also tied is a night at the opera/queen2. Hi john welcome to the world that is known as queenzone. |

Innuendo is part of my life Innuendo is the cause why i like Queen now i remember, march or may of 1991 the first time i saw the Innuendo Video.... The video and music just blows me off !! Then i decided to know more about that great band i had only 13 years and my only knowledge in music was... Michael Jackson :O I remember in June for my birthday i was in bed very sick, so my sister bought me the Casette of Innuendo.... Then i fell in love completely with Queen Some songs like Im Going Slightly Mad and Dont try so hard i didnt like it as much... but over the years became favourites... Innuendo, I Cant Live with You, Ride the Wild Wind, All Gods People, Hitman, The Show must go on were the songs i liked the most... I remember asking me myself, after hearing TSMGO.. Why they release that song.. The rumours maybe true...? This was the end of Queen? Then became November with the sad news we all know Innuendo was the best way of closing a career... and TATDOYL the best way for freddie to say goodbye... |
mike hunt 08.04.2005 16:30 |
one of their all time best, right up there with queen's first 8 albums, truly great, but sadly only had moderate sucess here in the states, can't understand what happened, so many classic songs, 'slightly mad' is classic mercury. |
sbrown 10.04.2005 05:32 |
Listened to this yesterday and was thinking about the amazing input Fred had with this album Slightly Mad Don't Try So Hard All God's People Delilah Hitman (Brian confirmed that it was mostly Fred) Bijou (with Brian) plus, most of Innuendo was his (I believe Roger wrote the words for the verses based on Fred's improv). The middle flamenco and what have you was all Fred's idea. That's a fair whack of the album. Plus he then went off and did A Winter's Tale. I think after '87, Fred really got his songwriting strength back. Barcelona has incredibly complex songs, and his Miracle and Innuendo work is amazing (Delilah notwithstanding) |
bigc 10.04.2005 07:10 |
his way of coping. push himself forward in work as opposed to trawl the gay night clubs as he had in the early 80s. good point brenski, queen might well have split up had it not been for his decline in health. I believe he had got fed up of touring anyway, and it wasnt just an excuse used when the miracle came round, and what with roger forming the cross and brian's solo album in the works, perhaps they may have called it a day |
