All of the records that Roger did outside of Queen were in a sense his "Solo" projects.
So why did he elect to record 4 of his records under the banner of "solo", but the other 3 he did with a band and under the banner "The Cross"?
All of the albums overlap the same time period so he went back & forth to the banner of "solo" and "The Cross".
Also what made him decide to put "The Cross" band together?
Solo Albums
Fun In Space (1981)
Strange Frontier (1984)
Happiness? (1994)
Electric Fire (1998)
The Cross Albums
Shove It (1988)
Mad Bad And Dangerous To Know (1990)
Blue Rock (1991)
I heard it was so he could take a band out on the road during Queen's downtime periods. So, 1987 - 1991 in between "The Miracle" and "Innuendo".
But I think he just wanted to form a band again instead of just playing everything himself. Maybe a Tin Machine kind of complex?
the_hero wrote: Fun in space and strange frontier is him doing all the instruments and lyrics.. so no input of Queenmembers whatsoever also in 1983/1984 Brian Roger and Freddie all felt like doing something that's not done as Queen to get some excitment in their carreer
after 1986 Roger advertised in a newspaper or whatever that he was looking for certain instrument players to form a band that makes music that was played during that time... the band started in 1987 in a show called "Live in 1973" the band carried on till 1992? something like that till the record company stopped their contract so Roger decided to go solo again with a few guest appearances...
Happiness? is fully dedicated to Freddie, so was probably meant as a solo album
Electric Fire was more made to introduce Treana Morris I guess.

Sorry to sound lame, but WHO is Treana Morris?
Have you ever heard Electric Fire album or ever read the booklet? This lady sings BVs on Surrender, for instance.
Going back to the original topic, Roger wrote all the songs on his solo albums (with some exceptions) whereas on the 2nd and 3rd Cross albums all members wrote songs (yes, on the 1st Cross album Roger wrote all the songs, it could be considered a solo).
I hope I didn't make any mistake. I could be wrong.
