well i am in my opinion hot space rocks!!! it's just a change from from the regular queen and besides if you don't like dancey pop songs then you still have the slow, life is real, las palabras de amor the hard rocking calling all girls and put out the fire the legendary under pressure and cool cat, well i'm not going to lie it does sound jamacin like but it sounds good (i love cool cat) |

yeah i guesse you're right please no one else respond to this as for ****** it's a cuss word i couldn't type because i'm only 9 YEARS OLD!!! |
Lester Burnham 19.03.2005 21:53 |
Wow, 9 years old? I did not know that. They get younger and younger every day. At this rate, my children are going to be born wearing a Queen t-shirt. Good thing my girlfriend's a Queen fan... |

I am totally sick of people saying that Hot Space sucks, that it's a failure, that it's a BAD album... I'm just soooo sick and tired to hear them. They have no idea of what they're talking about. I can undertand people saying that HS ain't their favorite album since its SO different from the others - that's fine. It ain't everyone who can get used to that funky-dance-disco musical style. But I can't stand people saying: "This album sucks and that's it". But well... "F*ck them, darling, if they just don't get it" |
Mr.Jingles 20.03.2005 00:14 |
It has grown on me a bit, but I still think it's their weakest album. After all, it was an experiment where Queen tried not to be Queen. |

My 2 year old girl walks around saying "Brian May loves me", and she constantly begs me for a rian May t-shirt :)))) And to be on topic, I think Hot Space is one of the weakest Queen albums, but not entirely without merit. :) |
brENsKi 20.03.2005 11:53 |
it is very weak - as queen albums go - remember Flash gordon was a soundtrack - Hot Space is far and away the weakest i'd be very interested to know from the person who started the thread - what do you think is the weakest queen album? also - if Hot Space had been made by any other band, i would not have bought it. To this day i only have it on vinyl - as i bought it on release day - and have regretted it ever since |

One of the great things about Queen is their music has so many different styles. I love variety, and to me life is boring without it. That is why I love Queen, and I don't hate Hot Space either. It's a band doing what they do best - creating diversity. |
brENsKi 20.03.2005 16:29 |
have just heard the fancourt stuff ....and next to that HS sounds quite good...on second thoughts - nO it doesn't - they're both weak!!! very weak indeed! |

And sometimes it seems as we can't critisize WWRY at all but can blame Hot Space all the time. For me Hot Space is much better than any musicals, Q+PR reunions etc! |
TheProphet 21.03.2005 13:24 |
I think hot space is not so weak that everyone always says, but it´s certainly not one of my top queen albums!! Maybe people not like it cause of the different stile, the songs are not that weak, Back Chat and Staying Power are really good!! Ok, calling all girls, cool cat and some other disco songs on the album are not that good. But Put out the fire, Life is real and Las palabras de amor sounds more like the usual queen, and they are all good songs!!! Theres still 2 things you should remember: - The songs sound completely different and much better live!! - Under Pressure ROCKS!!! So after all I would say it´s a bit underrated by the fans... |

Not really because it does suck. They took a chance, did something bold, but it failed. Most bands could never recover from back to back flops like Flash Gordon and Hot Space. |

boy of destiny wrote: Not really because it does suck. They took a chance, did something bold, but it failed. I actually prefer Hot Space to one of the big fan favorites... I won't say what one though. |
boy of destiny 21.03.2005 15:28 |
To reply to Brenski (I don't know how to quote on this site): I agree Flash wasn't a real Queen album, but it was released as such. I was thinking about it the other day and how before the days of the internet, radio was really the only way to be exposed to new material. Just imagine how disappointed you'd be if you excitedly bought the new Queen album only to find there was really only 2 "songs" on it. It was totally misleading to the fans to make that album an offical release and they were lucky that true Queen fans are so loyal. Those 2 albums could have killed them and in one major market (North America) it did until Wayne's World came along. |
Matti 21.03.2005 21:40 |
Yeah. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but I don't think they should try to press them on others. |

two things to note here:- 1. the cover of Flash Gordon clearly says FLASH GORDON - original soundtrack music by queen it doesn't say QUEEN - FLASH GORDON look at the other album covers BAND NAME = BIG LETTERS or top of cover - title = underneath or smaller lettering FLASH is the opposite - TITLE in big letters - queen in litlle letters 2. - and i know there are exceptions - but generally speaking - the vast majority of queen fans would not put HS in their top 3 and as for NON_QUEEN fans - how many are even aware of HS - let alone even like it? |

Hot Space was an obvious direction after the success of something like 'Another One Bites the Dust', and its funkier sound. It IS their weakest release during the bands lifetime, but it has some good tracks; i really like Cool Cat(nice rhythm guitar from Brian). It's easy with hindsight to say it was a wrong move, but it probably was; it alienated a lot of fans. |

Actually most people don't say that Hot Space sucks anymore.... |
brENsKi 29.04.2005 03:53 |
no. most people that don't like it just accept that they don't like it and allow those that do like it to think otherwise. i for one still hate it. but that is what makes queen great - the fact that different people - and fans - can like different aspects of their music. i think of myself as a true music fan - my collection covers most genres and tastes, and as a Queen fan of 31 years, i feel proud that i am not sychophantic enough to claim EVERYTHING THEY DID WAS GREAT!!! - It wasn't (imo) - AKOM and HS were awful, but i respect others' opinions to like these albums - just as THEY should respect my opinion to hate it. For what it's worth - my queen taste is from inception to Jazz, and then later the miracle and Innuendo. as i said before - there are some in QZ who would claim an album of Queen farting and burping was "great" - and it is these peoples' views i take isssue with. One QZer actually said a few months ago that they ONLY HAVE QUEEN MUSIC AND WOULD NEVER BUY ANYTHING ELSE - that is blinkered and completely backs up my theory. People who "refuse to see the other colours in the spectrum" certainly don't have a musical opinion worth replying to. there are also those that frequently start the "QUEEN VS THE BEATLES" threads - these threads are almost as pointless as "defending Queen's honour" when a new cover version is released. the facts are clear:- queen were better than the beatles - but then the technology AFTER the beatles split got better. the beatles were more innovative and more of an influence on music and popular culture. Despite this I still prefer Queen - we like what we like, full stop. - Even tho' they did occasionally release some shit - and (imo) HS was shit! - end of sermon |
