I feel like someone should have said this before. A lot of you (who I seriously question if you're real fans or not) do nothing but bash every single damn thing Brian works on or writes on his soapbox. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion (just like Brian does), and I have to applaud some of you for bringing criticism in a constructive way, which I believe is the right thing to do when you find that something Brian did or said wasn't quite right. However, some of the people on this board just find everything Brian does plain wrong from every point of view and bash him in every way possible. They criticize the musical without even seen it ( like if somebody is forcing them to go). If they record with someone like Britney, Beyonce, 5ive or Robbie Williams, then it's fine not to like it, but when you're still bitching about it years after it happened then there's definitelty something wrong with you. I find that some people seem to believe that Brian May should be practically perfect. Let me tell you something... aside from his skills as a guitarist and his enormous musical talent Brian May is ONLY HUMAN. He has good things, and (a very few) bad things, because NOBODY IS PERFECT. If he feels angry about things (mostly about the press, as usual) and wants to vent it, then let him do it. If you feel offended in any way about his comments or wish to rectify his opinions, why not even write to the man himself and let him know how you feel. Brian May is one of the very (and I mean VERY) few rock stars who dedicates time to respond his fans. Of course due to the amount of letters and time he can't reply to everyone, but I'm sure if he finds your letter very important and if you write it with the atmost respect he'd be very glad to answer back. At least I can tell you that I've seen him reply and apologize a couple of times to people who have found his comments too harsh or at least he'd explain that perhaps his words were taken out of context. I truly understand that Brian May is indeed a Rock God, but in the end as a person he's just like everyone of us, and once in a while he makes mistakes or does things that some might not think of as correct. Nevertheless let me remind you that Brian is considered by many of his fellow musicians as "the nicest guy in rock n' roll", and that's a title that very few artists can dispute due to the oversized egos and holier-than-thou attitude of most music stars. As a musician and as a person Brian May is STILL a role model to follow, even if he's not perfect. |

You're right, but 'some fans on this forum' are humans too and they have their rights to disagree with Brian, IMO. |

Also, they might disagree with Brian but they still manage to do it with respect for the guy, and for the most part they try to voice their opinion about the negative side of Brian's comments, but also try to understand the reasons why it might be justified his point of view or the motivations of his acts. |

I completely agree. Just because he's a great musician doesn't make him infallible. |

Mr.Jingles79 wrote:Yes, as I wrote I agree with you, but when Brian called Queen forums as a crap - it wasn't constructive criticism (someone wrote that WWRY-Russia is gonna be closed and Brian called it as a rumor from crap Queen forums, but now we all know that WWRY-Russia has been closed actually). Everyone makes mistakes - Brian, fans and we should take it more easier.Serry Funster wrote: You're right, but 'some fans on this forum' are humans too and they have their rights to disagree with Brian, IMO.Well as I mentioned before there's people who make constructive criticism, and that's quite different from those who come to bitch about Brian because it's not made towards diminishing someone, but rather towards finding ways to improve something that they consider not to be correct. Good post, Dan. |

The timing of this topic is quite peculiar. As I recall, the past six months have been relatively free of "Brian bashing". Why bring this topic up now? Why bring out the water cannons after the angry mobs have dispersed? Maybe the Milton Keynes and Live Aid DVD's have something to do with the current lack of "Brian bashing". Perhaps the new Queen tour or the rumoured A Night at the Opera Special Edition double CD may have also helped to reduce "Brian bashing". |

And can you REALLY argue with someone with hair like that? |
ANAGRAMER 19.03.2005 01:48 |
Brian's response to critics should be kept under his hat/hair - he would do well not to dignify comments with a reaction - it's just what the press wants - PLAY THE GAME |

It does quite clearly say it's "Brian's Soapbox" not just anyone's, so I reckon that gives him the right to put whatever he wants on there. Good for him too. I don't think people "Brian bash" as a rule, I think they have a lot of criticism for the stuff that Queen have bunged together like GHIII (which deserves everything that gets thrown at it) but people don't want to single anyone out. I think the worst kind of bashing that goes on on this board is the John bashing. He's as much of a legend to me as Brian, leave the poor bloke be!! |

Just take a look at any of the recent topics concerning Elton John's comments on WWRY, the upcoming tour with Paul Rodgers, Brian's anti-smoking crusade, the WWRY musical, his obsession with astrology and orbs, and quite a bunch of others. Some Queen "fans" gets just pissed off at everything. I mean just take a look at the people who bash them because they released Milton Keynes '82 instead of Earls Court '77 or Hammersmith Odeon '75. Personally I think fans should be glad that Brian, Roger, and Queen Productions bring us a new release just about every single year. Not to mention also that they've done a superb job including great extras on their latest DVDs. I know most Queen fans are very thankful and more than satisfied with the latest releases, but some other Queen fans are just plain impossible to please. |

And if there is anything about Queen that should be bashed should it not be things like "Delilah"? lol |
Saint Jiub 19.03.2005 22:15 |
I suppose one could call it bribery, but I prefer to call it Queen listening to the voice of the customer. Seems that plenty of Queen fans were extremely upset about the concert web cast being heavily edited. Yes these fans are real fans even though they are far from being good litle Queen soldiers. So I will concede my assertion that that the bashing is not too bad lately. |
