i've read many times that john didn't approve of the "hype" around Freddie's death and we'll never know exactly what he was thinking cuz...he never talks :P
but i was just wondering why he would turn that honourary trustee title for the mercury phoenix trust. i agree that you shouldn't necessarily capitalize on Freddie's death but i've always wondered what exactly he defines as capitalizing cuz the trust is actually a GOOD thing...why wouldn't he want to be part of it? kind of a rhetorical question i suppose
Because being a trustee of a charity is more than just an "honorary" thing and actually involves a whole heap of responsibilities and duties... see link
John, along with Jim Beach are already trustees the EMI Music Foundation, or something with a similar name... so he might well feel he's committed himself to that...
