Although, News of the World, is my favorite Queen album... I've always noticed that it seemed a little odd. Every other Queen album had a feel that went from start to finish, like every song fit on the album. News of the world, comes off as the white album. It sounds like a mess of songs of different styles that really don't blend but somehow make a good running order. It's Late, Who Needs You, Sleeping On The Sidewalk, All Dead,All Dead ... these songs don't fit... Every other Queen album had a bunch of songs that had something in common... Queen II-obvious, Sheer Heart Attack-clever melodic twists and turns... ANATO-title speaks for itself, ADATR-grandiose arrangements, Jazz-laid-back and tight, The Game-Old School rock and roll, Hot Space-"funk-black category or whatever you want to call it", The Works had the drums, keyboards, structured verse-chorus-verse, A Kind Of Magic/Flash Gordon-for obvious reasons, The Mircale-rebirth, new life, Queen w/new-found emotion and energy, finally Innuendo-an existentialist rock album. News Of The World will usually stand out as the album with WWRY/WATC...but its the mess between blues, Zeppelin, mexican beats and piano-bar singing that make this album a quiet classic. |

Yes it's a little different from the other albums. But I like it. Maby because it's different ? Well, there are great songs there and the best thing with this album is that you can listen to the songs in any order. On other albumst you have to listen to all the songs in the right order to get the right feeling :) |

Hi i also like news of the world i don't think it's that odd an album apart from the wwry/watc obviously great songs in thier own right the musical changes are evident sheer heart attack is pure punk following the trend at the time, get down make love, fight from the inside quite different tracks to previous albums. I agree it doesn't have any form or cohesion to it but that might have something to do with queen more or less self produced the album therefore being able to run riot in the studio. Sleeping on the sidewalk spread your wings and it's late for me makes this album great, that's just my opinion though good topic though. |

I honestly believe that GHIII was the saddest shit that QP released. Beats NOTW in all respects. |

I think "Greatest Hits III" was absolutely great! I am so glad that they did that AND "The Platinum Collection". It made it so that Queen for a year before in 2002 when Led Zeppelin released "How The West Was Won" in 2003 Queen had the highest charting three c.d. set on Billboard music charts in the U.S. EVER! That seems quite siginificant to me. Especially when Queen are supposedly over and oh not so popular here in the U.S. which I think is apparent that it is not true in the least. |

Didn't Brian call News of the World a jam session album? I recall some interview where it is obvious that those guys knew this album was gonna be some hurlyburly through different styles. So you are maybe not the first to notice it. But you surly encouraged me to listen to it again =) |

I always thought the sound on NOTW sounded different than any other Queen album.....The vocals have a real dry feel, hardly any reverb. Not bad....Some songs on NOTW are phenominal...ie: Wings, Melancholy, Champions especially. |

I don't know about that. News of the World is also my favorite Queen album, and it kind of stands out to me as the Balanced Album. There are no twenty-minute guitar solos, no gospel-like vocal harmonies, nothing too ridiculously complex. It's just kind of laid back, and I like that. Everyone balances everyone else, in terms of the songwriting, the up-showing, the styles, and the quality. It's a solid album, all the way through. And in case anyone cared, I think that Get Down, Make Love is a brilliant song in its own respects. I know a lot of people think it sucks, but...AIEEE. It takes a truly twisted mind to write something like that. And nothing beats Spread Your Wings. Or Sheer Heart Attack. LOVE those songs. |

yea, Get Down, Make Love, I used to like it, but it sounds like queen was trying to experiment without using synths... IT is, however, one of my favorite drum tracks... that, Under Pressure and Now I'm Here. |

I have to say that lately I've started to become more fond of 'NOTW'. For a long time I hardly ever listened to it, but now I'm starting to like it more. At first I found the album too heavy and too experimental for my taste, and indeed quite a different one from all their previous ones which were characterized by their trademark guitar solos and harmonic vocals. Two songs that I will always skip from 'NOTW' are 'Sleeping On The Sidewalk' and the horrendous 'Get Down Make Love'. However I've started liking heavy songs like 'Fight From The Inside' and the punk oriented 'Sheer Heart Attack'. My absolute favorite songs from the album have to be 'It's Late' and 'All Dead, All Dead'. Both are quite simply masterpieces. |

I LOVED All Dead, All Dead until I discovered that it was written about a cat. (Lest you think me a pathetic old grouch determined to find fault with all that is innocent and beautiful in the world, let it be known that I once wrote a similar poem, and it was about a rat.) I still love it now, but I regard it more with fondness than reverence. Very pretty song. I quite like the story told in SOTS even if I'm not overly crazy about the song. As for GDML, I've explained my fondness for the song. So clever. So wrong. So Freddie. And Who Needs You, dammit! That is a beautiful fucking song. Every time I hear it, I start to get this uncontrollable craving for peppermint-flavored hot chocolate. As a result, I have probably gained a lot of weight from it, but it remains one of my all-time favorite songs. As far as Spread Your Wings goes, Queen fans seem to be divided sharply into two categories - worship-it and damn-it-to-hell. I am of the former. Partially because I (oh, this is going to sound corny) fell madly in love while this song was playing. Queen songs are good for that. |

I wonder what moved John Deacon to write a spanish bolero oriented song. I know for a fact that the guy was into black genres like R&B, funk, soul, and reggae but I guess John was more into a whole variety of genres and that added a lot of versatility on his song writing. Many of the hispanic Queen fans might find it odd but at the same time gratifying to find a bolero on a Queen album. I grew up listening boleros thanks to my parents, and although I haven't always been fond of all latin genres, boleros were one of those that I always appreciated. |

'Ben' by Michael Jackson is considered by many one of the most beautiful songs of all time, that until you realize that it's about a rat! I still love the song, but it's hard to listen to it without thinking of rats. |

News is not my favourite album but I like it. I don't think any of their records includes a concept whatsoever. Surely The Works includes several topics of "glorious past, come back to me" (Ga Ga, Back To Humans, twelve-bar blues in Break Free, retro side in Prowl, and the way IAHL is composed in a rather typical Freddie way), but still there are exceptions like Hammer To Fall. Same for the early records ... how much "opera" is Good Company? If something's nice about that album is the differences of styles... 39' is something completely different to Prophet's Song, let alone Seaside Rendezvous. There are several numbers in News that I'm not crazy about: Rockyou is nice but nothing special, too simple for my taste, I'm kind of tired of Champions as well, can only hear it in sport events, but not "just because", Inside is again a little too simple, Get Down Make Love is tedious imo; otoh Sleeping On The Sidewalk is one of the very few bluesy numbers that I like, the whole loose feel is very well performed in both instruments and vocals, I like Who Needs You, Melancholy and Spread Your Wings. Sheer Heart Attack, full of energy, I enjoy it a lot. And All Dead is part of my top 5 of Queen songs, I adore it. It's Late is not my type. |

Ben the two of us need look no more.......lovely song BUT maybe Michael Jackson should have stuck with playing with rats than with little boys |

Ahhhhh LOVE NOTW! It's brilliant!! and one of the only Queen albums I can listen to on shuffle and, no matter how the shuffle goes, it still flows in a way . Most of the songs while very different lyrically and musically, go together rather well. To use a literary term, they act as Foils for each other. I just can't listen to the album in regular order without skipping WWRY and WATCH since they are kinda overplayed and all. But if they are in a mix I'm already in a groove and skipping ruins that, so I listen to them |
