Hmmm ... is the thing with shaving legs recorded somewhere? Or how do we know? And then ... he never admitted publicly that he was gay. I heard they broke up in late 79 80 and in Freddies last years (according to jim hutton) freddie was friends with her but not best friends as she led everyone else to believe, that and (again according to jim) she was a dumbass. |

Freddie's own actions speak the loudest where Mary Austin is concerned. Jim and Feebie can say what they like, but Freddie left HER the house. It was his choice. I can't believe how some people diss Mary Austin, and defend Jim Hutton. Mary never asked nor manipulated Freddie in any kind of way to give her his money. Nevertheless to leave him his vast fortune. She was always there for him despite all circumstances, for good or bad (just like if they were married). If Freddie chose to leave her his fortune was because she was the best choice. Now, at least Mary didn't make money from giving details about intimate anecdotes from Freddie's private life like Jim Hutton did. I mean, I'm sorry that Jim lost Freddie and he got AIDS from him, but I think Freddie gave him more than plenty of money to start a new life. I do agree...if Jim was being 100% honest in his book (and what reason has he to not be?) it seems as though Mary may have been a little harsh on him. I mean, Jim lost the love of his life too, you know? Why did Mary feel the need to be kinda selfish? I really don't think Jim was out for Freddie's money but just to keep a piece of his memory alive with him. I mean, for cryin out loud, Jim put so much time and effort into building and refurnishing all those things to Garden Lodge. Personally I don't know whether I'd want to be Mary or not. Losing Freddie has obviously cast a long shadow on her life. But let's not forget she had some good times with him, too. Any footage or photos of them together make that very clear. I also have a lot of sympathy for Jim. As someone else pointed out, he lost someone very close to him, whatever the spin in his book. You could argue Mary treated Jim harshly, and I have some sympathy with that. But consider the state she would've been in and none of us act particularly rationally under such circumstances. |
