neone notice that roger seems to be really passive agressive when he talks about john ;) he really doesn't like backchat, he obviously didn't like that "funk" influence, he tends to downplay the success of john's singles...he needs to ease up on the poor man |

roger doesn't do that...not that i kno of...anyways...john is awesome who would do that to him? |

I don’t think it’s necessarily an attack towards John, but more of Roger's opinion towards the style of music John liked to write. Roger was always more into straight rock, where John liked to experiment with funk and wrote poppier songs. And Roger definitely isn’t one to keep his opinions to himself. If you just listen to Brian and Roger's comments on GVH I and II, Brian tends to try and downplay anything negative (like in the comments for It’s A Hard Life), but Roger is just brutally honest. |

Is it any wonder why John doesn't want to join the other two on tour or in any other future endeavours??? I mean who in their right mind would after putting up with someone as rude, arrogant and insufferable as Roger for the amount of time Queen was together decide "Oh yes, I'll put myself through all that crap again" I somehow imagine that Freddie appreciated and respected John's talent and John as a person more than the other two did and that probably Freddie stuck up for John a lot. Yes, Roger is very talented musician but he's a sarcastic jerk and frankly, I think that's one of the reasons why John decided it was over for him when Freddie died. |

Yeah, Im sure Roger hated John. link |

He didn't like performing the drum loop on the song, he never said anywhere he didn't like the actual song itself. Plus, Roger's a fairly opinionated person - he also rips apart several of Brian's songs and he also says flat-out he thought Brian's guitar solos were boring! And yet... somehow, they're still friends. |

Roger was always a down-to-earth rocker and actually there are already enough of this boring concepts in Rock history (thats why I can never see Bruce Springsteen as something special) - With Freddie came the pomp (I love "Its a Hard Life"!!!!) and Roger was always jealous because he was standing somehow in the shadow of Freddie. When Freddie died the pomp died too, and Roger is again a talented but actually rather boring type of musician. |

Roger didn't hate John, end of debate! |

I think you'll find that Roger & John were quite close before Freddie died. John was involved in Rogers early solo work a fair bit and it was John & Roger who started work on Made In Heaven together. I think Roger has come to resent John for not wanting to be part part of the supposed Queen machine and John has basically cut himself off from Brian & Roger communicating only via letter. PS - AOBTD isn't a drum loop whatsoever. |
kerfuffle87 03.03.2005 10:17 |
with AOBTD i swear Brian said something like Roger had grave doubts about it in the studio, but LIVE, no. thats not saying he doesnt like the song at all. xx |

Roger never hated John, for God's sake: they had 2 very different lifestyles and musical tastes, but it doesn't mean they didn't respect each other. Yes, a good evidence of it is the fact that they began working on "Made In Heaven" together - which made Brian a little angry, as far as I know. There were almost 2 groups of allies in Queen: Freddie & John for commercial, poppy songs (hey, they wrote "Friends Will Be Friends" together!); Roger & Brian for the pure rock n'roll side, although there are exceptions: "The Invisible Man" or "Breakthru" for Roger, "Princes Of The Universe" and "The Hitman" for Freddie, but, to my knowledge, John never wrote a real "rocker" for Queen. I think Roger is agressive about John because he retired, period. |

I don't care anyway - sarcastic jerks are great! Roger Taylor's cool, he wears great sunglasses and takes the piss out of people. And if you hate him - just walk up to him and say 'sex video'. |
flash00. 04.03.2005 12:07 |
i dont think he hates john i just think he's annoyed b/c john wont join queen again and for dissing robbie in public lol good for john being strong and not being pressurised into doing something he dont want to do "without freddie"!! i know that john used to look up to freddie as kind of big brother, you can tell he looks buzzed up in past interviews where he says he worked on this or that with freddie.. i like roger but hes alf changed ,,,oh its called getting old lol |
ernie 04.03.2005 12:21 |
well i don't think roger hates john, it's just that sometimes the way he criticizes his songs sounds more like putting him down. if he comments on freddie's songs, he'll always add in something positive but with john it's another story. anyway, it doesn't matter; i agree that he's probably just pissed that john's being antisocial these days so fine, i'll accept that |
Negative Creep 04.03.2005 12:26 |
I wonder if all 3 of them were still on speaking terms this tour would have ever happened... I get the feeling its been done in spite of John. |
Freddie F 04.03.2005 13:40 |
John was right about Robbie Williams, I find his "We Are The Champions"-cover really awful. Brian liked this job, but he didn't criticize John for giving his opinion about it. I think they still have minimal respect for each other, but not more. |

I think they still have minimal respect for each other, but not more.yeah and i actually heard a live version of Robbie singing the song where he butchered the damn thing. forgot the lyrics in some places and it was just horrible so good on John cuz he was right...although sometimes i questions if he really said what he did about robbie |
Freddie F 05.03.2005 03:14 |
It's certainly John. At the time, John had been silent for years. He could have expressed his feelings about many other things concerning Queen, but in this case, I suppose he just couldn't stand it hearing Williams destroying such a great song, one of Freddie's prides - and we all know the respect John had for Freddie. P.S. Who plays the bass on this version? Not John, I suppose. |
Scott_Mercury 05.03.2005 08:06 |
What exactly did John say about Robbie? |
Scott_Mercury 05.03.2005 08:11 |
Ok, most of you probably have already read this, for those who haven't, this is what John said according to "The Sun": "QUEEN'S John Deacon has blasted Robbie Williams saying he's not good enough to replace Freddie Mercury and sing with the band. Robbie was to take Freddie's place with John, Roger Taylor and Brian May to record a special version of the classic hit We Are The Champions. But John refused because he thought Robbie ruined the song and could never replace Freddie, who died in 1991. Instead just Robbie, Roger and Brian recorded the track - a No2 hit for Queen in 1977 - at a secret location in Surrey for the soundtrack of new movie "A Knight's Tale". John says: "Roger and Brian got together to do the song with Robbie Williams but I told them I had retired. "I didn't want to be involved with it and I'm glad. I've heard what they did and it's rubbish. "It is one of the greatest songs ever written but I think they've ruined it. I don't want to be nasty but let's just say Robbie Williams is no Freddie Mercury. Freddie can never be replaced - and certainly not by him." John also scuppered a plan for Robbie to front a re-formed Queen with the surviving members. The bassist made his cutting comments at the Save Popbitch party - an event to raise money for the internet gossip site. I was surprised to see him at the bash because he hasn't appeared on the London party scene for years. Always regarded as the quiet one in the supergroup, John claims he retired from music when Freddie died. Bandmates Roger and Brian carry on and recorded "We Will Rock You" with |
