Do you think the reason John is now so anti Queen is because his microphone was turned off for so much of his career? I personally think "the straw that broke the camel's back" was when spike sang into his microphone in '86. |
foxxy_moron 20.01.2005 20:16 |
I think he was just singing softly... |
Gunpowder Gelatine 20.01.2005 20:18 |
Honestly, I don't think he cared that his microphone was turned off, since he was the one that always said he couldn't sing! |
foxxy_moron 20.01.2005 20:19 |
I swear I heard him once or twice though |

Probably why he stuck around in the band for the next few years, too. |

I know personally that John felt ripped off, never appreciated when blowing to this mute microphone nowone could hear him on wembley arena stage or in milton keynes or even in budokan japan.. John always had bad feelings, shit men..He felt underrated.. the other's had their voices hear out.. but poor john's only instument was his trusty bass.. I feel pity that man!! and so should you.. John had all the right to sing!! along with freddie.. Im ready to find an association to rebound john's losses.. and the loss of us.. the listeners.. who is willing to take care of our mental damage?? |

John's microphone actually saved Freddie from technical failures, most notably and visibly seen in the Argentina 81 video. The "Save Me" part, where Freddie's mic started acting up. He used a back-up mic, then used John's mic, and when the piano part came, he used his piano's mic. Humble little thing, this microphone. It may have well served it's intended purpose. |
Sicmot 20.01.2005 23:07 |
Yes Ure right I guess |
Joma 21.01.2005 00:12 |
You can hear him singing live occasionally. Songs like Radio Ga Ga the chorus eg. But not on harmony parts :-) |
foxxy_moron 21.01.2005 00:16 |
yes so can i, but not enough to judge whether he's good or not |
Joma 21.01.2005 00:28 |
He is surely not a good singer. Otherwise he would have sung the harmony parts in the studio. |
foxxy_moron 21.01.2005 00:30 |
maybe he was just too shy... how cute |
Joma 21.01.2005 01:16 |
Yes, maybe he was. That man can do anything and you will find it cute!?! |
Rick 21.01.2005 05:52 |
His microphone was never off! The volume of his mic was lower then the rest. |
GiantSpider 21.01.2005 08:56 |
To be honest Spike could sing and John couldn't. But if were talking about this ever noticed you can't really here Brian untill he sings by himself? |
brian_may_wannabe 21.01.2005 11:13 |
He sang into Roger's microphone in the Magic tour when they were singing You're So Squared (Baby I don't Care) during the 'turape' bit and I think you can almost hear him sing. |
GiantSpider 21.01.2005 15:20 |
Actuaaly on that subject considering nobody could ever hear john it picked up Roger's tambourine from a fucking mile off. |

John could sing damn well..i've heard him ! The reason he does'nt bring his singing to the fore is simply because he is too embarrased about it and far to shy. He also feels that he can't sing very well...but when you have to sing backup with a man like Freddie on stage next to you...well..I would feel that way too! John sings in a soulful style reminisent of Motown singers. It's lovely, but he's far too uncomfortable doing it in public. In private, yes, but on stage? Rarely but their have been some fine moments both on record and on film. Best example is a the old Golder's Green radio program from the Uk, 1973. Here during "Liar" John's voice is louder then Freddies and he sounds GREAT! He really should have done more...but again, he was far to shy about it. Another good example is during the Live at the Rainbow concert from that same year. Same song...during the middle section when Fred starts with the "Mama gonna be your slave..." lyric. You can hear John wailing here plain as day. Other shows too...just listen you can hear him if you know what to listen for. He CAN sing...damn well too...but he CAN'T come to grips with doing it with everyone watching! Bless his little voicebox.... |

I think he can sing. He can play the bass very good, and usually mucisicans CAN sing as well... but some just have to practise. But it's true... if you have a music-talent, you could learn anything that is related to music. He just needid some practise. That's all. |

i really think rogers voice did not go well with freddies live his voice was to harsh whereas brians was straight thru the middle aobtd is a prime example roger screamin "another one bites the dust" too harsh |
foxxy_moron 21.01.2005 20:54 |
i think rogie just loves the hardcore rock edge of singing... he can sing really softly and sweetly when he wants to... |
GiantSpider 22.01.2005 06:36 |
Roger's voice is perfectly diferent to Freddie's. Makes big chords much earsier. And with the later concerts you can't really try and hear John because it's more than likely to be Spike. |
Freddie-B 22.01.2005 09:29 |
Actuaaly on that subject considering nobody could ever hear john it picked up Roger's tambourine from a fucking mile off. Genius!! And a very good point! |
Lady Cool Cat 22.01.2005 16:30 |
He just said he didn't know how to sing...But I guess because of that, he wasn't as close to the other members, and he felt left out...But that's just what I think... |
maxpower 22.01.2005 16:42 |
i've always wondered if he can or cant, i always think about Spread Your Wings ... a very rangey song, even Freddie lowered the key when they did it live "sammy dont you know who you are" etc. I dont honestly believe you could write a song like that without being to hold a note in key |
Lester Burnham 22.01.2005 17:01 |
It's difficult to assume, but I've always thought John wasn't a singer. And he doesn't exactly have to be a singer to present material - he could probably hum in key, which may have been how he got most of the songs across to the band members. Or maybe the demos were so badly sung that Freddie would agree to sing anything just to shut John up. That said, I have a few bootlegs of shows that manage to pick up John's backing vocals; very nasally, high-pitched, almost exactly the way he talked. |
foxxy_moron 22.01.2005 17:40 |
He did say once that it was hard to express songs because he was too shy of singing... Maybe Freddie just sung the songs the way he wanted to. Smartness |
GiantSpider 23.01.2005 05:44 |
I think I will use Brian is a comparative here. I think he was shy. Especially in earlier years you could not here him really. Then in later years you could only really here him when he sang a solo i.e. One Vision, Hello Mary Lou. However when the pressure wasn't on in the studios he sang all the time. Some songs he sang lead vocals all the way through & on allmost all songs he sang backing vocals. John never even sang in the studios. Not sonething you would do if you could sing is it? |
