I think The Sex Pistols are great because they didn't give a shit about what people thought of them. Johnny was extravagant, Steve was outrageous, Glen was the one who didn't last long
Paul was the quiet one and Sid was the rebel
Even though he couldn't play that fucking bass!
What do we think of these punk pioneers
Personally I think they were utter crap and they only got media attention thanks to the way they created controversy.
Now, 'The Clash' and 'The Ramones' those are real punk bands.
I found them interesting when I was about 14... but like yeah... they dont have that great of a sound :-S they just live on thanks to teenie boppers and the likes of hot topic @_@
I bought Nevermind the Bollocks: Here's the Sex Pistols in the 7th grade, that would have been oh about 1988. I liked it for a year or so, it was a phase for me.
Well.. they were the ones who started the punk movement in England and thanks to the Pistols we had bands like The Clash who were much more talented as musicians and especially as songwriters.
The Sex Pistols were fun but they never took neither themselves nor the music seriously enough to last.
The Clash are the real legend. God bless Joe Strummer!
Love 'em. Which other punk band went down in history? The Clash maybe but you never hear of Sham 69, The Slits, Buzzcocks. Unless you're in my house of course.

And unless you're a fan of German (punk) rock band "Die Toten Hosen"
:-)
I love Sham 69! They were way better than the Pistols. It's a shame they didn't get further.
The Ramones went down in history but ok they were the first ones anyway.
Well,The Sex pistoles was very important, they camed and destroyed the big Rock image and was important for many Punk rock bands for generations. But in my opinion i dont like their music.

i am real into the sex pistols i dont care if they only made 1 album but you know what who care people hear them and they are like get them away from me i think it was funking awsome some of the things they sang about and did only wich i could have been alive during their time to go to a concert
give me any punk band ill listen to it...the clash the ramones the sex pistolss the distillers social distortion system of a down and so on
I don't give a fuck about punk, and I'm sure that's the way punk artists like it. What self respecting anarchist would want folks like me listening to them just because they're 'history'?
What crap!

*puts on Hersham Boys at full volume and annoys the neighbours*
now all i have to do is educate the masses on the wonderfulness of Joy Division and Siouxsie & the Banshees and the world will be a better place :-]
The whole punk scene was for the most part utter shit, and yet it was necessary for it to happen.
Bands in the 70s were becoming way over the top, and that was a great thing of course for us Queen fans. However, Glam Rock was making the rock scene to theatric and flamboyant, and Progressive Rock was too experimental and musically technical. Punk rock went to the whole other extreme by making music that was anti-music. It brought the most simplistic musical knowledge, and gave music to those who weren't so skilled or talented for that matter.
The good thing about punk rock is that it influenced the whole alternative and new wave scene from the 1980s.
