Did anyone not see the picture of Prince Harry in the Nazi outfit? What a moron. link |
Gunpowder Gelatine 13.01.2005 01:25 |
I just saw that picture earlier. What an idiotic move. I mean, he says it was a joke, but he had to realize how many people would be offended! |
Spiderleg Synthia 13.01.2005 03:32 |
It seems a little sinister that nobody told him to take it off. Just saw GMTV and some Sloane was talking about how it "just wasn't good enough", but that eveeryone does stupid things when they're 20. For fuck's sake. Well, hopefully Hewitt's brat will do something stupid enough to be actually put away for (though I recognise that this would have to be pretty bad) eventually. |

Mr.Jingles 13.01.2005 12:11 |
That is just an absolutely stupid thing to do, regardless of whether the whole incident was going to be exposed to the public or not. If Harry truly wanted to dress up like someone who inspires horror and disgust without creating too much controversy, he should have dressed up like his father. |

Oh now he's an idiot? Getting hardly any GCSEs, A levels, brawling with photographers, taking drugs. And it's hardly like the rest of the family is whiter than white is it? His Grandad's a racist, his Uncle does exactly what he likes and has done for years. |

With all the atrocity occuring in the world, I think the outrage of Harry's costume attire is almost as offensive as the act itself. It's a poor choice of clothing but he's young and he's learning. What about the MP's with mistresses and the like? They shouldn't be allowed in Parliament. Think about the people in the Tsunami areas, reflect on the slaughter in African nations, forget about the Prince who made an error in judgement. |
Bob The Shrek 13.01.2005 18:19 |
I think this has been a huge, media led, over-reaction. He is not the first person to wear a Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party and he won't be the last. Freddie Starr used to dress up as Hitler, as part of his act, and no-one gave a shit. |

Bob The Shrek 13.01.2005 20:28 |
I can understand people getting annoyed at seeing the Nazi uniform - every sane person will be against what it stood for - but it shouldn't matter who is wearing it, whether it be Royalty or Joe Public. If Harry is going to be set upon, then so should everyone else who has worn one at a fancy dress party. To be honest, I thought it was illegal to wear a Swastika - except for films/dramatisations. |
Spud 13.01.2005 20:34 |
Everyone wears the most offensive costumes that they can don't they?? The last fancy dress I went to, I went as a suicide bomber. isn't that the point? Or do I just have a particularly warped group of friends? |
jasen101 13.01.2005 20:46 |
I personally think that someone in the royal family should never do that....20 years old or not. That's just really bad. |
deleted user 13.01.2005 20:48 |
I think that dressing up like Hannibal Lecter is still better than dressing up like Adolf Hitler, although one's fictional and the other's not. |
brENsKi 14.01.2005 03:47 |
before we start blaming the media and saying how things have gone overboard, let's not forget some things 1. we are two weeks away from the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz 2. 6 million jews died at the hands of the nazis 3. should we be less offended because it wasn't last week? should we be less offended because it wasn't our grandparents? put it in persepctive - a natural occurence wipes out maybe 200,000 people - that is catastrophic and a tragedy one "master-race" choose to eliminate 6,000,000 people and that is shameful...and the fact that one of "our" royals chooses to wear the uniform of his -great-great-grandparents is more than just offensive |
Bob The Shrek 14.01.2005 06:35 |
My grandad was part of the British unit that liberated Belsen so our family will never belittle or forget the effects the holocaust, it haunted my grandad till the day he died. To re-iterate my stance: should he have worn the uniform - no. Should he be punished for wearing it - no. Should the Nazi uniform be available for hire for fancy dress - no. |
iGSM 14.01.2005 08:37 |
< Darn tootin'. Mind you I believe Spud is referring to a bad taste party to which my dad once dressed as an S.S officer and my mum as a Jew/P.O.W. That's bad taste. I wonder how it crossed his mind. Odd Royals. You whacky Brits and your Archbishop of Canterbury. |

DeaconJohn 14.01.2005 14:37 |
The most offensive thing was the theme of the party, "Colonials and Natives". Ironically the Nazi uniform had nothing to do with this, so as well as being insensitive, he's just plain fucking stupid. |
Sonja 14.01.2005 14:42 |
It has offended many people and I think it's just a stupid thing to do... at the age of 20 he should know that. But then again he's a young guy... he's a little rebel and he'll never be like William. I think he's gone through very bad times in his young life and being a part of the royal family doesn't make growing up easy I suppose... Whatever... He apologized and Charles will send him to visit Ausschwitz and make him realize that what he did was simply stupid and he'll learn from it. No need to make such a big deal of that story... I think Harry shouldn't be taken too seriously anyway... |
brENsKi 14.01.2005 15:44 |
who do you really think wrote the apology? so Palace "organiser" that's who he had nothing to do with it - he's so fucking stupid he probably doesn't even realise he could've offended anyone - w*nker!!!!! |
LittQueenie 14.01.2005 16:21 |
not to sound like a complete idiot, but I am reacting to what someone said earlier...."Hewitt's brat" Is that James Hewitt person that Diana had the affair with really Harry's father? I know that the royal family will never willingly claim that to be true, but is that the consensus? I know Prince Charles was not too concerned when Harry was born - it interrupted his polo game..... :-) |

It's an offense to Jewish people especially that shouldn't be underestimated. That's the problem, not that he was just "naughty" because it's forbidden or morally undesirable. It really hurts people. I don't know how harsh the reactions were in England, but if something similar happened in Germany it would probably be the end of his career. He's not that young. |

Janet 18.01.2005 17:59 |
I agree with Bob and BMW. If the costume is THAT offensive, it should be offensive no matter who wears it, and shouldn't be available to purchase or rent by anyone. Harry shouldn't be held up for example anymore than any other person who's worn the same costume. I think the attention this is getting is just plain rediculous. It was a costume party, for crying outloud! |
Music Man 18.01.2005 18:58 |
First of all, let me clear up one point: If you are outraged by his costume, then yes, you are overreacting. The problem is that anyone will find anything to be offended by. People should free themselves from their own ignorance instead of redirecting the ignorance label to others. Dressing up like a Nazi is nothing to get even slightly stirred over. Did he express or endorse any negative views or behaviors of Nazism? No, he dressed up in a Nazi uniform. The only thing he endorsed, if you can even call it that, was the dress code. A thousand hells upon you if, God forbid, you endorse the historic dress code of the Nazis, while several others actually practice their racist agenda. Let's totally forget about the people who are actually making our world a worse place than it is, and let's simply focus on attacking this one particular man's life, just because we've heard his name before. You might think that dressing up as a Nazi might be a reminder of all the negative aspecs of Nazism. Well, it is. And if you want to live in ignorance of history for the rest of your life, then I don't really care for you. How many people is he actually harming by means of his apparel? The latest polls show zero. |
Music Man 18.01.2005 19:00 |
Look at me. I made my first double-post. |
Brimon 18.01.2005 20:35 |
He has'nt harmed anyone. He has however offended a lot of the older generation who see this not so much as a problem of this man, but as a problem of the younger generation as a whole. I'm all for flogging them off to the Japanese. |

brENsKi 19.01.2005 17:16 |
no he didn't make an apology - some palace lacky wrote the statement and handed it to the press let's clear a few things up 1. 6,000,000 innocent people died under the command of that badge 2. just because it's stupid doesn't make it less offensive 3. europe has spent 60 years trying to forget it's past - this will cause all kinds of hostility and copycat moronic behaviour - already there was a swastika sprayed onto a Jewish grave in London today.....this will bring out all the sickos 4. "he's just a young lad having fun"? fuck off - this is the most ridiculous thing i've heard - fun is not fun for everyone if it offends anyone - and people are more than entitled to feel villified or offended by slaughter or ethnic cleansing as Adolf called it 5. "he has so much pressure on him, he has a hard life" - fuck off again - he wouldn't know what a hard life is - he incredibly privileged - there are 200,000 dead or homeless as a reult of a tidal wave - they've got it fucking hard !!!! this young man - and his entire family are a bunch of two-faced-murdering-lying-incestuous-thieving-bastards - and they should all be shot |
Janet 19.01.2005 17:23 |
"there are 200,000 dead or homeless as a reult of a tidal wave - they've got it fucking hard !!!!" Which makes it all the more ludicrous that people would be so upset over someone wearing a costume to a private party. There are many more pressing things in the world to worry about. |

Mm-hmm, Janet. |
jasen101 20.01.2005 06:44 |
You have to be pretty fucking thick to not get the fact that wearing a Nazi outfit is fucking sick...ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE A MEMBER OF THE ROYAL FAMILY! Miss James and Janet: I'm curious to know why you don't seem to be offended. Let's say someone murders your entire family....and not just murdurs them...tortures them in the worst ways possible. Then you see some famous royal git dressed up as them having a great ole time at a party...laughing it off. you're telling me you wouldn't be in the least upset? if that's the case you should get your heads checked. Please do me a favour. Go to Auschwitz one day. |
Janet 20.01.2005 06:48 |
I didn't say that it wasn't in poor taste. I think MANY things are in poor taste. Something is always going to offend someone in this world. What I'm saying is that there are so many tragic things going on in the world at this very moment, that I can't be bothered to worry about what a spoiled brat kid wore to a fancy dress party. |
jasen101 20.01.2005 06:53 |

Have you guys ever heard the expression "don't cry over spilled milk?" I have an idea, let's have a giant protest so he doesn't wear a Nazi uniform next time. Not that it matters. You guys seem to think that wearing a Nazi uniform is somewhere next to murder. It's actually somewhere near borrowing a few quarters from your mate and not giving them back. |
jasen101 23.01.2005 01:52 |
Hey Arsehole aka Music Man...borrowing quarters??? The kind of crack you're on must be extra potent today. As usual, you've missed the point entirely. Maybe you don't see how a Nazi uniform may resemble murder...but then again you're an american...and about half of you voted for a mass murderer called George W. Bush. Enough said. |

Music Man 23.01.2005 15:02 |
I think you guys are the ones who need a little growing up to do. But let me think on your level (basement, please) for a few seconds of my life. No one image represents murder more than, say, a gun. So I have an idea. Let's ban the image of guns forever. People should have no choice in the matter. Civil liberties be damned. If anyone so much as thinks of the word 'gun,' the thought police will come after and arrest him. This way, the victims and families of the victims of gun injury or death will no longer have to confront the issue. |
