I was just wondering how you English-speaking lot pronouce Immanuel Kant's name when using it (i.e. do you pronounce it like "Kent" or do you take the authentic, but also more precarious approach of pronouncing it homonymously with the c-word ?). Also, have you ever witnessed that the use of Kant's name resulted in any comical or awkward situations (in the classroom, for example) ?
An English friend of mine once almost got beaten by his classmates when he correctly answered a teacher's question with "Kant" (pronounced properly), because they thought he was cursing.
One of them found it so funny (once things were cleared up) that he reportedly still runs around calling people "fucking Immanuels". :-)
Kant himself certainly classified as an Immanuel. Anyone who writes books with titles like "Prolegomena to any Future Metaphyic that will be able to come forward as Science" (and having had to read it, the title matches the content) deserves that name :-)
There's a soccer team in Russia with name "Fuckel" - it means something like 'light' or 'fire' on Russian, but it was very hard for UEFA to work with the team with such strange for English-speaking people title...
