Christmas Time is coming closer...what is your opinion about Queens only Christmas Single? |
k-m 20.11.2004 06:08 |
Poor. "A Winter's Tale" is so much better! |
Freddie May 20.11.2004 06:08 |
Bad song :-/ Winters'tale is much much better... EDIT : I was not the fastest ;-) |
k-m 20.11.2004 06:10 |
Hey Freddie May, you've copied my post! |
Freddie May 20.11.2004 06:11 |
No I hadn't seen your post but I agree with you, that's all :-) |
k-m 20.11.2004 06:12 |
I know, I know... I was just kidding! |
mrbadguy86 20.11.2004 08:01 |
I love that single..it's one of my favourit christmas single ever! But one of the reason for that was the beautiful voice of Freddie Mercury ofcours... |
brian_may_wannabe 20.11.2004 09:44 |
I like it. Really Christmasy. |
Lester Burnham 20.11.2004 11:04 |
'Thank God It's Christmas' is too bland, though it does have some nice guitar at the end. The band would have been better off issuing 'I Dream Of Christmas', which they apparently recorded. 'A Winter's Tale' is absolutely gorgeous, but not really something to listen to unless it's snowing outside (at least, that's what I think). Does anyone know when 'Thank God It's Christmas' was recorded? I've heard July 1984. |
gabriel79 20.11.2004 11:27 |
pure shit |
quackman 20.11.2004 11:33 |
I really dislike Thank God it's Christmas. It sounds like a cheap pop song, freddie's voice isn't good either in it. This song is so un-queen. |
Robin 20.11.2004 11:58 |
I don't like it at all. |
MetzgerR 20.11.2004 12:04 |
I don't know...I've only listened to it a few times. It isn't my idea of a very Christmas-y song, and I tend to only like Christmas hymns anyways, so even that isn't really saying much. I don't find it marvelous, but then, it certainly doesn't irritate me the way several other songs do. I do, however, absolutely adore A Winter's Tale. Beautiful is a severe understatement, I think. Ja ne. |
Whisperer 20.11.2004 12:04 |
quackman wrote: I really dislike Thank God it's Christmas. It sounds like a cheap pop song, freddie's voice isn't good either in it. This song is so un-queen.Funny. I've always thought that this is a very typical "normal" (= not BoRhap or TSMGO) Queen song. I like it very much. It works perfectly for one moth a year. |
Brimon 20.11.2004 12:16 |
Yeah, I like the song at this time of year, it fits in well with all those Cliff records but I dont think its a popular Christmas record with people in general. Would have been great if they'd released a video to go with it, all the band cavorting around in the snow. Then roasting the chestnuts on an open log fire. |
Adam Baboolal 20.11.2004 12:29 |
Nice idea, Brimon! A piss-take video would've been great. *sighs* I don't mind the song as I like singing it on rare occasions. Peace, Adam. |
Debbie1 20.11.2004 12:43 |
I like it - it's better than some of the Christmas tunes you hear at this time of year. It's certainly not their best song but it's nice to hear it this time of year. |
muttley15 20.11.2004 13:27 |
I am obviously in the minority here as I think Thank God it's Christmas is not bad at all for a seasonal song. However, I think A Winter's Tale is shite! |
Daburcor? 20.11.2004 13:36 |
I love the song. Actually, I was listening to it last night while wrapping some Christmas presents. :D |
mike hunt 20.11.2004 13:38 |
freddie's voice makes this a good listen, like alot of queen's songs freddie makes the song happen. |
Giacco 73 20.11.2004 13:57 |
I always loved Thank God it's Christmas and Freddie vocals are amazing (as always)! |
don't_stop_me_now 9697 20.11.2004 14:11 |
I think it´s pretty good. Not as good as the Christmas song "Do They Know it´s Christmas" but it´s pretty nice. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 20.11.2004 15:18 |
I've probably listened to this song about three times in total, so I just played it again. The vocals are great, and the lyrics are typical Christmas cheese. Not too bad, but it's definitely a song to save for the holiday. :) |
White-Queen 20.11.2004 17:00 |
I think thank God it's christmas is a ok song to listen to when when the christmas season is here, but it is of course not the best song that Queen has recorded but i only listen to it about 4 times a year anyway and that is when it is christmas:) |
Óli Gneisti Sóleyjarson 20.11.2004 18:21 |
I like it, it's kindof over-the-top dramatic which is pure Queen. In Iceland it has become a fixed part of the christmas radio-playlists. |
GonnaUseMyPrisoners 20.11.2004 18:38 |
It's a great song! but... I think the arrangement is a bit too synth-heavy, though. (And the "drums" sound really dated.) Brian? Are you reading? Ever thought about a re-instrumentation/re-mix/re-orchestration? |
Mr.Jingles 20.11.2004 19:11 |
Those who say the song is shit, are perhaps going too far. It's not bad, yet not great. Personally I think it's a very nice song. Christmas and charity songs have a tendency to be either popish catchy tunes, or corny ballads. Thank God It's Christmas We Are The World Do They Know It's Christmas Candle In The Wind (1997) All I Want For Christmas Is You... ...and so many more. |
k-m 20.11.2004 19:27 |
That's right. Unfortunately, Queen didn't stand out. |
mercurian 21.11.2004 06:32 |
poor and bas songs |
Fenderek 21.11.2004 11:10 |
The worst single they have ever released....? IMO it is... |
Lord Blackadder 21.11.2004 11:47 |
I think it's alright. Not the best Queen work. Unfortunatly it's not well known here because it wasn't released as a single in U.K. |
[StArMaN] 21.11.2004 12:10 |
has it been released anywhere ? lol |
Goo 21.11.2004 15:56 |
It's a bit disappointing as a Queen song, but I'd say it's better than most Christmas songs out there. |
Daz85 21.11.2004 16:03 |
I think it's okay, though it kinda catches me off guard! I still hear it on the radio every X-mas, so it must hold up?! However, I unfortunately don't hear AWT, which is a bloody shame. I think TGIC "failings" chart-wise at the time were due to Band Aid, and the fact that it was released in Novmber I believe :-S |
egret 21.11.2004 16:27 |
I like the overemoting on Thank God It's Christmas. I feel like it kind of sends up all the marketing shrillness. I feel like it's a little bit tongue in cheek. Maybe I'm giving it too much credit. I'm always happy to listen to Freddie overemote, anyway. He could sing about changing the catbox and I'd listen to it. --Egret |
redyfredy01 21.11.2004 19:21 |
I am so glad it's Christmas time because i saw some gifts my mom got for me, and they are the coolest things!!! I got a Queen CD, but i dont know which one, i got a David Bowie CD, but i dont know which one, i got the movie the Labrynth, which is my favorite movie, (besides Monty Python Quest for the Holy Grail) and i got the music video of Live at Wembly Statium!!! i am so happy! |
Mayboy 22.11.2004 05:56 |
Its not terrible by any means, there are worse Christmas songs IMO i play it every year |
The Mir@cle 22.11.2004 07:01 |
Despite of almost all of you I like the song. I think It's not one of their best songs, but on Christmas morning I love to listen to it. It's give me the Christmas feeling. A Winter's Tale is a great song if you look out you're window in December, and it's nice weather. It almost gave me the feeling of being in Montreux, where Freddie wrote it. But I don't associate it with Christmas. |
Norwegian Blue 22.11.2004 13:28 |
Compeltely agree. It isn't a queen song per se, but it feels chritmassy and it's a pleasant enough song. As for AWT it's a beautiful song and features on my ultimate chillout list |
Hank H. 22.11.2004 14:04 |
Don't like it that much, but Freddie makes it okay. The best christmas song I know is the Miles Davis Sextet's "Blue X-mas" with Bob Dourrogh on vocals. |
Mean Mistreater 22.11.2004 16:48 |
It is really cheesy, but I think one listen a year won't kill me. My fav Christmas songs are jingle bell rock, rockin around the christmas tree, and the jackson 5's I saw mommy kissing santa claus |
mickyparise 22.11.2004 19:49 |
Personally I Love the song, esp on xmas morning, and BTW Roger Taylor and Brian May WROTE the lyrics, so who no's if Freddie wanted to record it, but his voice, and senrity on the song is a nice xmas song........ |
akindofmagic 23.11.2004 00:09 |
It's not their best song, but it isn't their worst... it is a very good christmas song. They should had realese the song with "I dream of Christmas", that is a very good song also. I, as a Radio Dj, use to play those songs... i haven't yet this season, because i'm focus on "Live at the Bowl"'s somebody to love. |
Melancholy Blues 23.11.2004 02:41 |
i quite like it, it's different to their other stuff |
JJ.Jasmine 26.11.2004 23:19 |
I like it!It's really special!I think it's better than any other boring christmas songs... |
Banquo 27.11.2004 05:24 |
I think its alright. Not their best song obviously but a nice diversion. |

As for Thank God It's Christmas, I've got no feelings either way about it, wouldn't say it's excellent, nor would I say it's awful.... |

I think thank god its christmas should be played every xmas because its Queens best xmas song. also like a winters tale though. |
deleted user 29.11.2004 06:40 |
Thank god its xmas is the best xmas single they've released. i also like a winters tale though. I wish people would play Thank God Its Xmas on the radio more often. |
Daburcor? 29.11.2004 07:07 |
I don't suppose any of you has the chords to this song, Do you? |
Whatinthewhatthe? 29.11.2004 12:23 |
I bought a Japanese Christmas CD (all American and British artists) that features TGIC as the first track (the CD is titled Happy Xmas) and ends with John Lennon's Happy Xmas (War Is Over). Capitol Records in the US will be releasing this as well. (Billy Squier's Christmas Is The Time To Say 'I Love You' is also featured!) |
mike hunt 29.11.2004 20:45 |
i like the song, freds voice souns good. |
