NO - DON'T SHOOT! I KNOW we've had this topic before, but this is something a little different. I have to do this project on effective music for one of my classes, and since they have a wide variety, I've decided to use Queen as my subject. Opportunity, opportunity... Anyway - the title should explain itself. Either give me songs or individual lyrics that are either very good or very bad. Spare me the torments and don't name Body Language, okay? I know that has bad lyrics. |
supernova190188 19.11.2004 15:42 |
The show must go on i think are some of Queen's best lyrics , also killer queen, play the game, bohemian rhapsody, prophets song, good old fashi.............................................................. the list goes on |
geeksandgeeks 19.11.2004 15:46 |
o_O I had GOFLB down as one of my bad songs. Just a tad too lipsticky for me. I agree on all the others, though. I personally think 39's got their best lyrics. Worst, excluding Body Language, has to be Don't Try Suicide. I would quote the lyrics, but I'd never stop laughing again. |

The Prophet's Song, Innuendo, Life is Real, and The Night Comes Down, and of Course Bo-Rhap are the best IMO The worst are Sweet Lady, I can't live with you |
Vad 19.11.2004 16:31 |
The Worsts gotta be Rock It and Machines. The first one is full of nonsense verses, the second is just crappy cyber-language. |
MetzgerR 19.11.2004 16:38 |
I don't know about their best, but I find the lyrics to 'White Queen' to be very striking. I also agree with many of the other songs listed here...so, I probably wasn't much of a help at all, sorry! Ja ne! |
Serry... 19.11.2004 16:53 |
Something like 'Coming Soon' and 'Party' are not very good, IMHO. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 19.11.2004 17:02 |
Innuendo, Under Pressure, The Prophet's Song and White Queen are a few that have great lyrics. The not so good? Dancer, Fun It and Party. |
GonnaUseMyPrisoners 19.11.2004 18:45 |
Maybe this is obvious, but I always thought We Are The Champions had great lyrics. Simple, direct, everyone gets 'em. And the result is a timeless anthem (proof that they speak to more than one generation). Bring Back That Leroy Brown & Seaside Rendezvous always tickled me. Jealousy is a more serious example of good stuff, too, I think. As for bad... the bewildering Delilah? the numbingly daft Calling All Girls? the overly smarmy The Miracle or Friends Will Be Friends? Have fun! Get a good grade, ms. empress! |
Brimon 19.11.2004 18:52 |
The best lyrics, Oh rock of ages do not crumble Love is breathing still Oh lady moon shine down A little people magic if you will. And the worst has to be Delilah. And then you make me slightly mad When you pee all over my Chippendale suite. I know it's Freddie indulging himself but they're chronic. |
Daburcor? 19.11.2004 18:53 |
An AWESOME example of good (more like perfect) lyrics is "The Show Must Go On". As for bad lyrics... I'm not too sure. :P |

ThomasQuinn wrote: The weakest lyrical extract would be this part of I'm In Love With My Car: "So she made tracks saying this is the end now Cars don't talk back they're just four wheeled friends now" Rhyming 'now' with 'now' is just pathetic (sorry Rog, I really like your songs, but this bugs me).Roger tries to be car-savvy sounding and it pisses me off... |

THE ABSOLUTELY BEST LYRIC HAS TO BE "IT'S A HARD LIFE"!!! more touching lyric and melody you never find I think...Also the Songs "Take My Breath Away", "Jealousy", "Love Of My Life", "Life Is Real", "Lily Of The Valley", "Keep Passing The Open Window", "Liar" and "Nevermore" has a VERY GOOD lyric in it! I dont like the lyric in "Don't Lose Your Head" and "Calling All Girls"..and they're not good songs in other ways either:S just the voice of Mercury makes them well-listening! |
Lord Blackadder 20.11.2004 08:36 |
Alot of Brian songs are excellent lyricly. Save Me, All Dead All Dead, It's Late, WWTLF and Sail Away Sweet Sister for ballads. But he could also write great lyrics for hard songs like Hammer To Fall and The Show Must Go On. |

fu(n)ster wrote: mustapha = very very brainlessWell I can't tell if you're right or wrong, because I don't understand half of the lyrics :P For me the best lyrics have: White Queen Death On Two Legs (if only everyone could swear and offend in such an intelligent way...) Don't Try So Hard (words of wisdom) The Show Must Go On Seven Seas Of Rhye The Prophet's Song Too Much Love Will Kill You Innuendo I'm Going Slightly Mad (very poetic IMO and I love its metaphors) Lily Of The Valley (the same as above) Life Is Real (so true...) Who Wants To Live Forever (simple but so meaningful) White Man ...and many more. The worst lyrics IMO have: Body Language Calling All Girls Party Machines Tear It Up Man on The Prowl Staying Power Dancer |

can't believ "geek" tought GOFLB to be weak lyrically - this is probably one of the best bits of musical poetry ever absolutely musichall/vaudeville at it's finest Noel Cowerd would've killed for those lyrics "dining at the Ritz, we'll meet at nine -precisely i will pay the bill, you'll taste the wine driving back in my saloon - will do quite nicely just take me back to yours - that will be fine c'mon and get it" |
redyfredy01 21.11.2004 19:32 |
Best Lyrics: (the songs that arne't on the bad lyrics list) Worst Lyrics: Get Down Make Love ( only because the words put a bad thought in my mind)I really can't think of many songs with bad lyrics be Queen. |

Ugh... There are soooo many great songs with amazing lyrics by Queen. Jeeez.... When I first started writing this reply, I was naming songs with awesome lyrics. But then I started making a looooong list that simply could not be capped off, because I just kept adding more great songs. However, I guess a personal favorite of mine would be White Queen.... |
The King Of Rhye 22.11.2004 04:32 |
I would tend to agree with Headlong as some of the worst lyrics....I mean, they dont make any sense at all! Now you got strings, you're gonna lose your rag...now you got soup in the laundry bag, etcetera......huh????? But I still like that song though....awesome guitar especially... And I saw someone give Tenement Funster as the worst lyrically....I dunno, I kinda like that one myself! 'gimme a good guitar, and can you say that my hair's a disgrace, or just find me an open car, I'll make the speed of light out of this place!' It actually kinda sorta fits me....well I have a good guitar, my hair was a disgrace...before I just got it cut a while ago...hehehe....sadly, I dont have an open car... |
The King Of Rhye 22.11.2004 04:36 |
(just to be a wiseguy...) Worst lyrics? Procession! There's no meaning to them at all.... |
Julia_M 22.11.2004 08:39 |
In my opinion the best lyrics have: A Winter's Tale These Are The Days Of Our Lives The Show Must Go On |

Exactly. That particular song has always been iffy with me. It's a bit overly goofy. I'm also tempted not to give Brighton Rock much recognition, though I know it has its merits, because I mainly remember it as the song where Brian May wails for what seems like 97 minutes on what's supposed to be a group effort. I love the man and his guitar playing, but you can overdo it. C'mon, give Hot Space some credit. Most of the song on there have pretty good lyrics. (Put Out the Fire, LPDA, Action This Day, Under Pressure, and even though the lyrics are quite stupid I have a weak spot for Staying Power.) |
Whisperer 22.11.2004 16:36 |
Best: There are so many, but I will go for TSMGO. It's all about Freddie saying goodbye and telling us what the situation with him is. Worst: I find this particular line from WIAWI very lame: "We went to Bali, saw God and Dali" C'mon! They went to lots of places together. Couldn't they have came up with a little better choises than these? |
Melancholy Blues 23.11.2004 02:31 |
