I'm not the biggest anime fan, although I have to admit that I'm a huge admirer of Hayao Miyazaki and the work from the people at Studio Ghilbi. One of Ghilbi's most famous flicks is 'Grave Of The Fireflies'. It's the story of the fight for survival of two orphans during the final days of World War II in Japan. One of them is the 14 year old Seita, who after losing his mother takes complete responsibility over his 4 year old sister, Setsuko. I have to admit that I hardly ever cry at movies, but this movie really did bring me to tears. Has anyone ever seen this movie? I would absolutely recommend it to anyone. Even if they're not into Anime. |

It might be hard to find it for rental... but you can find it on any place with a big Anime section. I got mine from Best Buy. |

Oh, I LOVE "Grave Of The Fireflies"... I get al choked up every time I see it. It's so perfectly done! But, That is the case with all of the Studio Ghibli movies... All perfect. If you live in America, I know you can buy this movie in most well known media stores, And if you're lucky (as was I) you can even find it at Wal-Mart. |

Hey Dan Studio Ghilbi will be releasing this month in Japan their adaptation of the Diana Wynne Jones novel, 'Howl's Moving Castle'. It seems like Disney will do the distribution for this film in the States. Although it's not known when will it be released yet. Some people say Spring or Summer 2005, but it's still unknown. I can't wait to see that one. |

Neither can I! If you ever get a chance to check out his Lupin III stuff, Do so. It's the best thing that ever happened to TV anime. Also, you should see Castle Of Cogliostro (also Lupin related, But in movie form). |

I LOOOOVE "Grave of the Fireflies." I have it on DVD. I like watching it in Japanese though, with subtitles, because the Setsuko's voice is really annoying in English. Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of anime, but really love Hayao Miyazaki. "Spirited Away" was awesome too. Also, you gotta love "Totoro." |

Grave of the Fireflies is awesome - I cry every time I watch it. That was actually one of the first anime videos I ever saw, and I've been addicted since. Anything by CLAMP is bound to be awesome, but X and Tokyo Babylon are my favorites. I'm trying to find the Read Or Die videos, so if anyone knows where I could find them, please let me know! It isn't by CLAMP, but is great just the same. If you'd like suggestions on what to look at/read/watch, I highly recommend Neon-Genesis Evangelion, Read or Die, Mermaid Saga, Mononoke-hime, anything by CLAMP (X and Tokyo Babylon are the best...Chobbits and Angelic Layer if you go for more lighthearted, though). Real Bout High School is interesting, too, as is Utena. And of course, Akira. Ja ne! |

EDIT: Turns out I forgot to place the hold. I was probably thinking of another movie that I placed a hold on. But I just ordered it, so no harm done! |

I also like Chobits from CLAMP. I believe Mermaid Saga was actually done by Rumiko Takahashi, who also created Inu Yasha (where my nickname here comes from - it means "Dog Demon" literally), Urusei Yatsura ("Those Obnoxious Aliens"), and Ranma 1/2, the last three which are some of my favourite anime shows. Takahashi also created One-Pound Gospel, Maison Ikkoku, Rumic Theatre, and a few lesser known series as well. |

I still have to watch grave of fireflies, I started it and didn't feel like feeling sad, I got a nice HK bootleg of 12 ghibli movie to hold me over until disney releases porco rosso and nausicaa (my fav. ghibli title) I have to say I don't think Ghibli can go wrong, I love all their stuff. Pom Poko was good too, it was a 2 hour movie about raccoons and I enjoyed it! I still need to see Laputa, grave of fireflies, kiki's delivery service, ocean waves, and spirited away, all from the HK bootleg I have, just hard to find time for 2 hour epics that always leave you emotionally fdrained. I love Lupin III, I would stay up until 2 AM to see that on adult swim, but AZ doesn't observe daylight savings time it got pushed forward till 3AM!!!! I was angry! The animation isn't to great since it's an older one, but the characters and plots are awesome. |

VGB, If you like Lupin, You should try to get the first series (the one on adult swim is the second series... and it's dubbed... poorly. LOL!). This is the one that Miyazaki worked on, And is the best of them as far as I'm concerned. |
