Shock, Horror, Drama!!!!!!!!! Apparently he said Brain May is 'ruining Queen's legacy'. I read it in a Kerrang magazine. How dare he!? |
KillerQueen840 09.09.2004 15:29 |
If that's true, (which I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't because I wouldn't trust magazines) then he's got some nerve! But we are all entitled to our own opinions... |
queenrocks! 10902 09.09.2004 15:29 |
Brian will never ruin Queen's legacy Queen are better than The Darkness So Justin stick that where the sun don't shine! |
Pim Derks 09.09.2004 15:45 |
He's just stating a fact. No-one can compare the musical with masterpieces like MOTBQ. |

Queen's legacy is immortal, Brian May can't do anything to ruin it. Whether or not what he is doing is helping or not is irrelevant. Hypothetically, even if it was ruining the legacy, I think it is very out of place and gratuitous for him to say such a thing. |
PieterMC 09.09.2004 16:11 |
Nothing that they have done in the last few years has really been any good. Musical, rehashes of songs just don't add up to anything great. I think they have lost the respect of many, many fans over the last few years. |
Hitman 09.09.2004 17:03 |
it does not add but it does not ruin |
Hank H. 09.09.2004 17:03 |

Pim Derks wrote: He's just stating a fact. No-one can compare the musical with masterpieces like MOTBQ.Absolutely agree. Brian is taking it too far and is becoming obsessed with the show to the point of actually shutting out his own fans (turning them away for autographs because hes busy with show stuff, biting peoples heads off for not loving it, ranting and getting easily annoyed on little issues) Hes already let it go too far with the terrible adverts- he could get worse. Best to just stick to the dvds and performing. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 09.09.2004 19:08 |
His quote, if it's true, could've been taken out of context, which isn't unlikely. With that said, I do think Brian has a tendency to ignore everything in favor of the musical lately. While that won't ruin Queen's legacy, it's starting to annoy fans. |
Music Man 09.09.2004 19:15 |
It very well may have been out of context, but if not, I think that it was a very disrespectful comment. Even if what Brian May is doing is not exactly making some fans happy, it is discourteous to throw such gratuitous words at anyone. It's like the saying, "If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all." |
Mr.Jingles 09.09.2004 19:23 |
Justin Hawkins telling Brian May that he's ruining Queen's legacy.... ...that's like Gary Glitter calling Michael Jackson a sick pervert pedophile. |
Matti 09.09.2004 21:26 |
I don't think he's ruining it exactly.... :( |
Mr.Jingles 09.09.2004 23:10 |
The only thing being ruined is the career of 'The Darkness'. They got famous by ripping off Queen, and now they insult one of their members. It truly makes Justin Hawkins look like an idiot. The same thing happened to Oasis when they started saying that theit biggest influence was Beatles and they started bashing Paul McCartney. 'The Darkness' is going down faster than Paris Hilton on a friday night. |
Mr.Jingles 09.09.2004 23:36 |
Brian = Brain |
QueenSite 10.09.2004 01:02 |
he'd better think about his band and tryu to find ONE original riff for next album. Moreover, so sorry for him there will be no Darkness legacy, as no one will remember about them in 2 years time |
Mr. Scully 10.09.2004 02:03 |
Brian is not ruining Queen legacy. Queen legacy is immortal. He's just ruining Queen reputation. |

hawkins is a dick if he thinks that! brian and roger aren't ruining Queens rep, just showing the world that they're immortal...and showing new generations good classic rock! so hawkins can shutup and until the day he betters them (which will be either never or in the distant future) he can shutup and keep his opinions to himself! thats my 2cents anyway! |
Richard Orchard 10.09.2004 04:22 |
lets not get too carried away unless we get confirmation of this. given that brian and justin are friends i find this a little hard to believe. |
deleted user 10.09.2004 06:37 |
Once again, I'm with Martin... maybe Justin just got drunk and you know: In vino veritas.... you always say the truth, when you're drunk. Brian May is ruining the Queen tradition and this can be seen by each and every fan. |

j0ck3 10.09.2004 09:20 |
Have anyone seen the musical We Are The Champions? It's like a Queen Concert with a cover band and Peter Freestone is there on a corner. I havent seen WWRY but heard the Spanish Cast Recording. Comparing it with WATC WWRY seems like crap to me. |
Lord Blackadder 10.09.2004 11:11 |
I do apologise for mis-spelling Brian. It was a mistake, i do know how to spell my fav guitarists name. |
mystic_rhythms 10.09.2004 11:19 |
first off, it doesn't matter if he accidentally spelled Brian wrong. My name is Brian, and people misspell it a lot, it doesn't bug me, so it shouldn't bug you either. Second, I don't really think Justin Hawkins insulted Brian May, and if he did, it was probably unintentional. Think about it this way. The Darkness is a band that has openly been influenced by bands like, and including, Queen. Besides, for all we know, Justin may have said "It's not like Brian May is ruining Queen's legacy." Remember, magazines and newspapers can easily twist the words around and make it sound like he bashed Queen. I honestly think he didn't. Also, The Darkness is working on a cover of "Somebody To Love", so why would he bash Brian May, then pay homage to Queen by covering one of their top hits? That is NOT right at all, so I do not believe he bashed him intentionally. |

j0ck3 - ask YourValentine. She has seen both the musicals. But don't expect a positive answer :-) Apparently Peter Freestone in female clothes wasn't the best view ever. |

Try to put it in a 'normal' perspective...you're in work...the phone keeps ringing and the e-mails keep coming in...you can't get a blessed thing done because of all of the interruptions and you're on a very tight deadline. Okay I'm done. |
Janet 10.09.2004 15:25 |
Who cares? Justin Hawkins is just a Queen fan, no more, no less, just like the rest of us. He's allowed to be disappointed in what they're doing (or not doing.). And what he said is no worse than the likes of what I've read on this very board 100 times. He's simply stating his opinion. You don't have to agree with it. |
Pim Derks 10.09.2004 16:08 |
"Rotten faggots as they are" well... actually a certain somebody called Frederick Bulsara is wáy more of a "rotten faggot" then any of the members of the Darkness! Jeez, to be honest I really can't see what the big fuzz is all about. So what if the Darkness ripped some riffs or ideas. It's not like Queen weren't influenced by Zeppelin or other groups when they started out. |
Rich Tea 10.09.2004 17:05 |
My opinion is the the Darkness are utter shite! Can't stand the music it just sounds forced and contrived! It annoys rather than entertains me. The singer thinks he is some sort of Rock God and they seem to me to be trying to recreate a fashion that quite frankly punk should have completely killed off! Well thats my opinion of course Justin Hawkins is equally entitled to express his! |
goinback 10.09.2004 17:21 |
I doubt the quote is true...The Darkness will probably have to talk to Queen for the STL cover so why would he say something like that now?! |

Janet - Great explanation. Personally, I think that Queen's sell-out might hurt their legacy. |
Lord Blackadder 11.09.2004 07:42 |
What sellout? |
Lord Blackadder 11.09.2004 07:43 |
Also, this wasnt said recently, the magazine I read it in was about 4/5 months old. And Brian said he knows nothing about a STL cover. |
