What the! Listening to "In Nuce" for the first time, I was really surprised to hear the Smile version instead of Freddie vocal.
But, I must say, it's fantastic! I love the Freddie version, but this one is just as good!!
Funny how some people have rare demos before they get the songs themselves.
You should also try to get the Queen version of We Will Rock You, it's actually better than the musical version that you probably already heard.

KuKu -
Don't worry about it- Maybe some still harbor bitterness about leaks of rare material. Then again, maybe I am not aware of the politically correct way to collect rarities.
Or maybe some people don't give a damn about leaking but they do wonder why people download demos of songs of which they even don't have officially released original versions.

Yes sometimes that happens. I bet there are some people who have heard "I Guess We're Falling Out" a hundred times but don't even remember how "Sweet Lady" goes
Ghost Of A Smile is still available in our internet store... but even if it was out of print, isn't it somehow more correct to get the original song first and then a demo or alternative version later? Polar Bear is maybe not the right example (because it's a complete song) but usually it makes more sense to get the original song first.
!!!
I'm sorry about having owned a rare version of Polar Bear! I'm just very surprised at the reactions, though - if someone counterfeited money and it was circulated, is the person who was also deceived in the process in fault? Also, I got the "rare version" in the Queenhub - am I not allowed to talk about rare versions that I heard before the widely circulated ones?
And Mr. Scully - maybe this won't justify my violation of whatever rules, but some new fans like me may have overlooked albums other than the official ones, especially if they are not really into collecting.
I have Ghost of a Smile, but perhaps you could post the name and address of your internet store.
Is it a well known, trustworthy and established store? Maybe someone else will want to buy it.
So by your reasoning, no one should be able to download a bootleg recording, until after they buy Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know at some inflated price?

When you're on the hub, you've got to have an interest in a bit more than just the regular studio albums.
Yeah, have to agree. It shouldn't matter what order you hear songs in. Rare or not. If someone listens to a rare track first and then the real thing, they get a different experience.
I remember after listening to MIH when it had been released, I dived into my brother's Queen collection and found the original Bad Guy tracks. I didn't listen to Freddie's tracks before MIH because I was started with MIH. Each to their own...
Peace,
Adam.
hey kuku
i still can remeber when i was a jung queenfan in the beginning of the eighties and i bought a counterfeit of the smile 7" and later the getting smile lp from japan.this was so great and essential stuff for me.
now 20 years later i downloaded the freddie version of polar bear and i really had to sit down when i first listened to it and i nearly had to cry.
so please keep your ethusiasm for new queen stuff and don´t care about people who new everything and run everything down.
The "Elite Traders" are coming out of the woodwork.
Who cares what order stuff is downloaded in, as long that person buys a reasonable amount of easily available official Queen product?

You are absolutely right. I should have specified what kind of collecting I meant - I am interested in hearing Queen bootlegs and Freddie vocal demos (hence why I downaloaded Polar Bear from the Hub), but I have not had time or resource to be initiated into the complex process of being someone who seriously collects products of commercial worth - which I meant by collecting. (I just download what is available for my personal entertainment.) I own most of the studio releases, so I thought downloading some bootlegs were all right.
Also, I think comparing WWRY situation and this situation is unfair. WWRY (both versions) are official, very well-known and to a certain degree they are "canon". So even a fan like me who listens to diverse other types of music can recognize it immediately. It would indeed be a cultural crime not to distinguish between something as famous as WWRY original and some collaboration that the band did later on.
However, Smile, although it may contain two members of a well-known band, is just an amateurish, obscure local band for me. Both versions of Polar Bear are extremely rare from my perspective and I appreciate people who are generous and big-hearted enough to share what they have seriously collected with care and precision. However, I don't understand why the collectors should dote upon what has already been "leaked" - if you don't like it, take care not to leak it and force others not to, also.
Lastly, thanks to Sir GH, Bullwinkle and others who were kind enough to explain to me in nice words, and John S. Stuart for suggesting other versions to listen to. Polar Bear is awesome!
For God's sake, this is not about some "leaking" (although Bullwinkle as usually does his best to persuade you about it). It's just that the demo has been available for two years and the original Smile version for 23 years so I find it rather obscure that people get the rare version first and only later find the official song. That's all. Nothing worth discussing another twenty posts :)
