When, why, by who and what for was the Great Pretender version produced, and where was it released?
I heard (part of) it on the radio (!), it had additional guitars etc., and the guy said it was from 1993.
Thanks for your help.

Are you referring to the Malouf Mix added to the Great Pretender CD released in America and the Freddie Remixes in Europe? That version sounds miles different than the original version, but is from 1992.
Yeah, the Malouf Mix is the only version on the Great Pretender CD that was released in 1992. That CD is essentially the American version of the Freddie Mercury Album released in the UK/Europe, but with slightly different remixes and tracklisting here and there.
I have no idea if it's the Malouf Mix. I was half asleep and didn't hear the whole song, but immediately noticed the additional guitar, but if I remember correctly it sounded a little bit like Brian's style, judging by the sound one could have mistaken it for a Queen version.
Amazing that a german station played that mix, it's the same station that gave Pressure On and On My Way Up regular airplay and played AKOM sung live by Roger Taylor at his birthday.
Thanks for the link, Zeni.
I like that mix, too. Malouf did some nice remixes, very Queen-orientated. For example, the mix of "Mr. Bad Guy" which features also additional guitars sounding very May-like.
