Altough I am a big Led Zep lover, Innuendo by Rob at the Freddie tribute is... awful. With all due respect. But on the other side, it was great for me to hear Innuendo live. It's one of my favorite songs. Period. |
jeff payne 1680 13.03.2004 05:46 |
He sang it better at the bray studios in March 92 during rehersals |
Daburcor? 13.03.2004 05:47 |
Let's hope... *cringe* |
Penis - Vagina 13.03.2004 08:43 |
LOL.. everyone keeps mentioning this lately which is strange. I thought he did alright myself.... same with 'Crazy Little Thing' and the 'Kind Woman' intro was a nice touch :) |
Rich Tea 13.03.2004 12:23 |
The "Kinda Womon intro" was part of the Led Zeppelin song "Thank You" from Led Zeppelin II "If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you." "When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me." "Kind woman, I give you my all, Kind woman, nothing more." |
Penis - Vagina 13.03.2004 12:29 |
Yeah I knew I should have researched that before I gave a 'title' :-P I'm not the world's biggest LZ knowledgebase :-P |
Acathla 13.03.2004 15:24 |
The reason that I mention Innuendo sung by Robert Plant is... that until the re-vamp of Queenzone I never heard it! Innuendo live is a killer. |
LucyCoeCollins 13.03.2004 15:32 |
it wasn't that bad as what's his name's screetching radio ga ga and i love seal but his WWTLF was alittle flat... |
Daburcor? 13.03.2004 15:35 |
I think I'm the only one who doesn't care for Led Zep... I thought Seal was wonderful! My SECOND favorite performance of that concert. |
jeff payne 1680 13.03.2004 15:41 |
Paul Young on ga-ga |
deleted user 13.03.2004 17:04 |
'I think I'm the only one who doesn't care for Led Zep...' No your not Dan.....I don't like 'em either. |
Penis - Vagina 13.03.2004 17:08 |
Speaking of which, I'm listening to Dolly Parton's version of Stairway to Heaven and it rocks! |
SlightlyQueenMad 13.03.2004 17:49 |
Yuk, that one sucks! Making a country-thing out of Stairway to heaven! Horrible! :) I looove Thank You. It's so beautiful. And i like Zeppelin a lot. |
Virtuoso 14.03.2004 03:24 |
I was disapoinded.I thought he would do a great cover of it,mainly because Innuendo sounds like Kashmir.Anyway,LZ rocks! "Paul Young on ga-ga"...sucked... |
Acathla 15.03.2004 03:20 |
What's the best deal to see the most of the concert? The DVD or the VHS version? |
LucyCoeCollins 15.03.2004 13:34 |
i liked it compared to radio ga ga's screetching paul young, and don't get me wrong I love seal but I thought his rendition of WWTLF was alittle flat... |
Penis - Vagina 15.03.2004 14:10 |
I rather think Paul Young has a good voice for that song. Maybe he was a little off that day but I still liked his version. To see the majority of the concert you need the tape or laserdisc version. That version is close to 3 hours long. |
Brian_Mays_Wig 15.03.2004 14:27 |
I dont know if the people who were at the tribute remember, But i remember when Extreme came on stage and started the medley...the sound was SHIT!!! But It was sorted for the beginning of KYA. But I enjoyed Innuendo, although when that kicked in it took a few lines before you could here Robert Plant. Different, but enjoyable. |
Oberon 16.03.2004 08:11 |
I don't remember Extreme sounding bad. I think I was just so bowled over by the medley. i thought it was very brave, and done very well (i.e with a certain amount of their own interpretation). Although I liked Metallica at the time, I always thought they were a strange choice for the openers of the show, as any non-Queen/rock fans watching on TV might have been put off, whereas if they stuck it out until Extreme might have been more encouraged. Generally, though, I thought the whole thing was fantastic. I discovered Queen too late to see them in concert, so this was the best I was gonna get!!! |
Nuno 16.03.2004 08:32 |
YEah I thought Extreme was the best band from the first half (I was really into them at the time and still are into them and Nuno's new band) The similarities are kept being made of Innuendo and Kashmir To me they sound nothing alike - I think both songs kick arse though (Innuendo just a little more) but they don't sound the same at all Not from my trained musical ear anyway Top 3 acts from the 2nd half of the Tribute Concert 1) George Michael (I don't think I need to explain the reason) 2) Robert Plant (Excellent - the only reson people didn't like his Innuendo is cos it didn't sound like Fred - but then again who does or did, Rob brough his own style and performance to Innuendo and CLTCL and the kicked ass) 3) Gary Cherone great performance and sheer energy - great rock performance) |
Azmandaman 16.03.2004 10:49 |
Guys guys guys!!! and gals of course.... Extreme was the best act of that night!!!! And to also think I didnt know who extreme was until I saw the tributre concert I was freaking impress! ,massively ego'd band writing their own anthems in there little rock circuits... but in solid memory they have Queen as their patriots. totally rocks. I think after being spoiled by too many tribute shows to this day I can safely say when Extreme came out with that medley on '92 it was another way of bringing back the live Aid vibe to the event with a few diffrent song..... electrifying! then metallica came on...**I shut my mouth** |
Rich Tea 16.03.2004 15:06 |
Actually Metallica opened the Show! Yes I remember Extremes sound being a touch distorted as they came on but although not a massive fan I was impressed with there medley it certainly was right for the occasion. The best acts of the second "Queen+" half IMO were James Hetfield (I loved SCC), Robert Plant, George Micheal and I also though Elton did alright with TSMGO. It seems strange analysing performances from a DVD or Video when you have actually been to the event. At the time I thought Paul Young was alright but watching it back I think you probably choose the wrong song! |
The Real Wizard 18.03.2004 02:51 |
Seal was flat singing WWTLF? No way... They just performend it a semitone lower than Queen's live version, to make it that much easier on Seal's voice. He doesn't have the biggest vocal range in the world! Nonetheless, I thought he did an excellent job with the song. Agreed... Paul Young was ASS on Ga Ga. |
iGSM 18.03.2004 03:37 |
With out Freddie there I wasn't expecting much but all in all it was quite well structured. Good show. |
Fenderek 18.03.2004 08:21 |
Loved the Hetfield's version of Stone Cold Crazy (fav moment of the evening), George Michael, Extreme. And Robert's "Crazy Little Thing..." was absolutely awesome!!!!! Because they played WWTLF lower, Brian's solo sounded a bit weak IMO- not bad, he played it all right but it totally lost its power- was flat... Not the only one- generally changing the key didn't help the music... |
Ms.Lurex 18.03.2004 08:37 |
robert plant on innuendo was great! come on! that song fits him perfectly! it was the ONLY thing of the concert worth watching...i have to admit...i've only watched the tribute concert once...and was very disappointed...i don't ever plan on watching it again or even owning it...probably because i can't stand 95% of the artist that were there...david bowie and robert plant were the only ones worth watching |
Fenderek 18.03.2004 08:45 |
Geee, I personally thought that Bowie was awful, so bloody pretenscious... |
Ms.Lurex 18.03.2004 08:51 |
just had to put on robert plant's innuendo...that little interlude he does...just gorgeous and enchanting...i think i like it better because i always thought innuendo sounded a little too over processed...this version is just raw, and plant's voice conveys such emotion...btw i'm biased because led zepp is my second fav band right behind queen |
The Fairy King 18.03.2004 08:51 |
Dan posted 3/13/2004 3:35:11 PM : I think I'm the only one who doesn't care for Led Zep... ---------------------------------------------------- you're not ;) |
Ms.Lurex 18.03.2004 09:06 |
led zepp has the sexiest sounding music ever...just put on you shook me...it has such a dirty bluesy sound...i love it! they're geniuses...blues was born here in the south, but led zepp perfected it...leave it to the brits they know how to do it right :) but still queen reigns superior |
Virtuoso 18.03.2004 12:36 |
Like I said before...LED ZEPPELIN ROCKS!!btw ms.Lurex, you forgot to mention Jimmy Page-problably the most important member of the group. |
Ms.Lurex 18.03.2004 13:51 |
well of course he's important! wouldn't be led zepp without that guitar! |
Acathla 18.03.2004 15:17 |
I have to be honest. After 30+ times I AM starting to like Innuendo by Robert Plant. It took me awhile. But he is out of tune on the "While we live according to race, colour or creed" line I think. My first post was my initial reaction when I first heard it. |
The Real Wizard 18.03.2004 16:07 |
"you forgot to mention Jimmy Page-problably the most important member of the group." I wouldn't put John Paul Jones and John Bonham too far behind Page and Plant. Every member of the band made Led Zeppelin what they were... hence why they broke up after Bonham died. Listen to Page/Plant bootlegs from 95-98, and you'll hear the difference in rhythm sections. No comparison. |
chancelloramethyst 18.03.2004 21:43 |
My fave from the Freddie Tribute has to be Brian's Too Much Love Will Kill You. There was something to him that time, a raw emotion that you don't often get from a performer. It was the best I've ever heard his voice for a live performance. -Amethyst |
