Greg has asked me to provide any further information about things like mastering errors/glitches/edits that shouldn't be there on Queen CDs. So far he's aware of: -"I Want It All" being edited by about 10 seconds (out of the first chorus) on the Hollywood version of 'The Miracle' CD. -Swapped stereo channels on all of 'At The BBC' (Hollywood version of 'At The Beeb') as well as the b-side "Soul Brother" on the 'Heaven For Everyone' single. -A little glitch during the intro to "Crazy Little Thing" on the Hollywood CD "The Game" -The noisy glitch during the vocal intro to "Fat Bottomed Girls" on 'Rocks' -Aspect ratios being off for 'A Kind Of Magic' and 'Hammer To Fall' on GVH2 (one is squeezed, the other stretched) Please let me know of anything else I should mention (other than asking when we'll get the boxed sets.. I think that would end his replies immediately.. if it feels right to ask at a certain time, trust me I will) This is one of those things where it seems like there's a lot of problems and then you get someone to listen and it suddenly seems like there isn't much else to report.. so I'm feeling stupid and could use some input :) I don't expect much to change, though he was quite intrigued by the "I Want It All" edit and is trying to find out how it happened, and I stressed how troublesome I thought the Fat Bottomed Girls error was since it seems to be on all editions. Anybody know if it's on the vinyl too? |
Josuè 09.03.2004 12:57 |
In the album SHA there's a song called She Makes me. |

Fat Bottomed Girls intro on Jazz. |
Penis - Vagina 09.03.2004 13:14 |
WYBREN, which edition of Jazz is that? |
[ Wybren™ ] 09.03.2004 14:38 |
I think the UK version (or maybe the Dutch one?). I'm not home so I'll have to check it later. Keep up the good work! |
Penis - Vagina 09.03.2004 14:42 |
No problem.. I'll just have to mention a specific version because there's lots :) Could be an older UK version or a remaster from a certain year. I'm guessing 1997/98 if it's the same noise as in the 'Rocks' version. |

I think I have to agree with Josuecifu on this one.;) |
Saint Jiub 09.03.2004 21:11 |
Has the missing "ew ew ah ah" in the vocal intro of In the Lap of the Gods been fixed yet. and of course Hollywood does not know here one song ends and the other begins often times |
goinback 09.03.2004 21:30 |
That sound isn't on the vinyl version of Jazz...the first time I ever heard it was on Queen Rocks. I'm not sure if it made it to the Jazz CDs too or not (or the Greatest Hits discs). The blank space between "We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions" is longer on my CD of News Of The World than it was on my vinyl/tape (or my vinyl/tape of 1981's Greatest Hits). Also the end of Live Killers lasts a few seconds longer than the old vinyl/tapes (though that was kind of a nice bonus ;) |
Mr.Jingles 09.03.2004 21:42 |
My 'Hot Space' CD sounds has very defective sounds on almost all the songs. Oh wait... that's the way it is on all CDs, nevermind. |
Saffron Caribou 09.03.2004 22:08 |
Well when I pop the GVH2 dvd and turn to DTS mode it makes some popping sounds. It can be either the dvd, the player or the tv :P |

The beginning of 'Lap Of The Gods' on the HR SHA CD lacks an ooo and an aaaah Believe there's a glitch somewhere on HRs 'It's Late' as well. |
Polar Bear 10.03.2004 04:06 |
For the record, yes the glitch on FBG is on the Vinyl of Queen Rocks as well. Oh and on GH3 some bastard is rapping over AOBTD. |
Daburcor? 10.03.2004 04:08 |
"Oh and on GH3 some bastard is rapping over AOBTD." ROTFLMAO!!!! That is a HUGE problem! LOL! |
Penis - Vagina 10.03.2004 06:58 |
Anyone with the missing vocals on Hollywood's In The Lap Of The Gods might want to try out a new copy. Adam Unger has told me that his copy doesn't have this problem, and the 'It's Late' problem was fixed long ago.. it's a shame to have to buy a new copy if you want it corrected, but it's been nearly 13 years since those originally came out. As for the tracks not starting in the right place, while it may be a bit annoying, you're not really losing anything. Even if they were in exactly the right place, with continuous music like that, it's never going to sound perfectly smooth when you separate the tracks. Just listen to the entire medleys and your problem is solved :) |
[StArMaN] 10.03.2004 07:16 |
Yes, The Fat Bottomed glitch is on the 1994 remastered version of Jazz and on Queen Rocks. It's not on the Greatest Hits. |
Penis - Vagina 10.03.2004 07:36 |
Thanks for that info Neil :) That would seem to indicate that it was there on the master when 'Rocks' was created... which means it should have been caught by someone before the thing went out! If a glitch that obvious can go unnoticed by someone doing the mastering, it makes me wonder if they're really paying attention to what they're doing. Granted, for the '94 remaster maybe it occured after the mastering.. but for 'Rocks', one would assume that the selected tracks were listened to at some point during mastering.. hell, it's within 10 seconds of the intro. WTF? And you know what it sounds like? It sounds like the typical 'extraction' glitch you get sometimes when taking a track from a CD. You don't suppose these 'remasters' originated from existing CDs? And now we're hearing some opinions that the 2001 remasters aren't all so great either......... |
Jjeroen 10.03.2004 08:08 |
The one that first comes to mind which has anoyed me for years: on the first (it must be the first because I bought all the original cd's when they first came out) and second UK cd issues of A Day At The Races the intro of You and I starts with a very short fade-in. You miss out on the first notes of the piano because of that. |
Penis - Vagina 10.03.2004 08:16 |
That's interesting! I used to have a U.K. version of ADATR and I didn't notice that, but speaking of track markers being in the wrong place, they had the ending of 'You Take My Breath Away' as the beginning of 'Long Away'. In that case I was disappointed since those tracks are not crossfaded, they should have been properly separated. |
Jjeroen 10.03.2004 08:20 |
Trackmarks in the wrong place, there are lots of them: on Queen II, on SHA and on ADATR. You're right about the Breath-outro being the intro to Long Away. It's on my version too. Does yours have the fade in on You and I too?? ( |
Penis - Vagina 10.03.2004 08:33 |
I only had it for a brief time in about 1992 and I don't remember a problem with 'You And I'. I was buying all of the Hollywood versions and picked that up just to see if there was a major difference and my only thought was "So I guess Queen CDs are a little screwed up everywhere". hehe |
David Jones 10.03.2004 13:57 |
Live At Wembley DVD - the whole thing pauses for a few seconds in between Brighton Rock and Now I'm Here. Very annoying. Nothing to do with layering either! (I think! :-) |
inu-liger 10.03.2004 14:09 |
Well, a problem I have, not so much a glitch, is the 4.0 DTS sound instead of 5.1 on most of GVH1 and GVH2. |
inu-liger 10.03.2004 14:11 |
And another problem I have is the widescreen cropping on the GVH1&2 and Freddie Tribute DVDs!!! |
Penis - Vagina 10.03.2004 14:23 |
Actually David, that does seem to be the layer change :) There is a very minor defect on that release though. Some teeny-tiny glitches in the audio for the Highlander version of AKOM in the photo gallery. Most people wouldn't notice them but they're there, and aren't there on the end credits of the Highlander disc. The cropping and sound mixes probably go down better as poor choices rather than defects ;) |
KevMull 10.03.2004 15:51 |
Yep, i second the widescreen problem plus overall poor pic qualiy on Hits 1 and 2 DVDs. couldn't care less about the FM Tribute DVD. |
andYYY 10.03.2004 18:38 |
Hi All I noticed the glitch on FBG on queen rocks when I first got it (really annoying), after checking on the original Japanese card remaster ...no squeak..............UK Got it wrong again... when I got the platinum collection, I wondered if the squeak had been corrected, It had..cool, no squeak on USA Jazz vinyl either, I noticed the fade in during You and I too, seems to miss 1 note of piano ON UK remaster, again, it was correct on the original Japanese card remaster, why can't the UK remaster process get it right?, after that i never bothered with The UK remasters, just got japanese card remasters instead..Hope that helped the topic |
Joma 10.03.2004 19:04 |
On the HR-Races Drowse: at 0:14mins there's a glitch or something like that. A beep.... ... at least my CD has it.... |
Penis - Vagina 10.03.2004 19:34 |
I hear it Joma... but it's also on the 1998 'Crown Jewels' remaster. I never would have heard that myself :) Does sound like an electronic beep.. weird. |
Joma 10.03.2004 19:38 |
right - then I will have to check my vinyl has been in the cupboard for many many years |
Billie 10.03.2004 19:54 |
"On the HR-Races Drowse: at 0:14mins there's a glitch or something like that. A beep...." Now you said it, i heard it on my EMI CD, too |
Penis - Vagina 11.03.2004 00:20 |
Greg has now told me that he's not interested in video problems at all.. only audio. And he seems especially intrigued by unique versions such as the 'I Want It All' edit. I'm pointing him towards all the stuff mentioned at the Trainspotter's Guide and Adam Unger's site and I'll mention the glitches, but if anyone knows details of rare or 'accidental' versions that haven't been previously mentioned, please do so now :) I will look up the thread Adam started awhile back on this subject. What amazes me is that after all this time, these versions are new to him. And I have to say he's a very nice guy, contrary to the impression one might get from reading his answers.. I think those are done more with a sense of humor than anything else :) |
Pim Derks 11.03.2004 02:26 |
"What amazes me is that after all this time, these versions are new to him." He wasn't really interested in it so far I think. About 1.5 year ago Luis (who isn't here @ QZ anymore) and I were talking about creating the biggest online archive of information about Queen's recordingsessions/versions, including all the edits/mixes/etc and new information about known demo's and stuff like that. We asked Greg for help, he replied a couple of times, but in the end we didn't get any new information, so the project was cancelled - we didn't want it to be 'just' a updated version of the Trainspotter's Guide... |
Penis - Vagina 11.03.2004 09:41 |
Well perhaps he's just dipping his foot into the fan pool once again to see what we know. I'll probably end up saying the wrong thing and blow it, but for now it's exciting :) |
andYYY 11.03.2004 15:39 |
I hear that beep too on 14 seconds on the TOSHIBA_EMI Japanese card remaster too... |
goinback 12.03.2004 00:06 |
FYI there is also an unlabeled slight remix of "Under Pressure" on Classic Queen...not sure if that was intentional or a mistake.... |
Penis - Vagina 12.03.2004 13:00 |
Yeah, Greg was aware of the alternate versions on 'Classic Queen'. The terrible 'Miracle' edit, the needless fade in/fade out 'One Vision' and the remix. :-P What's funny is that if they had used the single mix of One Vision, they wouldn't have needed to edit 'The Miracle' They did this: One Vision (album version fades) 4:38 The Miracle (really bad edit) 4:24 total = 9:02 Original versions: One Vision (single mix) 4:02 The Miracle 5:01 total = 9:03 Idiots! :-P I like the Under Pressure remix though :) |

DF my Jazz cd says: BIEM/STEMRA - MADE IN HOLLAND - Digital Remasters 1994 (- The copyright...) |
Jjeroen 13.03.2004 12:15 |
Yeah that's a Dutch pressing. But nearly every Queen cd you buy in Europe is pressed in Holland. I bought 'Made in Holland'-cd's in Germany, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Italy, Greece, former Yugoslavia ánd in Turky! More specific: every regular EU pressing with an EMI logo on it is pressed in Uden, the Netherlands. (Where's the time: an ex of mine used to work there! *grin*... got me some nice stuff ;-) It's so weird: I live very near the German border. I always buy my cd's in Germany because of the huge difference in price. It's weird to buy cd's in Germany and pay 15 euro's max for the exact same pressing FROM Holland which in Holland costs 23 euro's... But that's a different discussion... |
Kai Kurgan 13.03.2004 13:30 |
The videos of "Break free" and "Invisible Man" on my GVH2-DVD stutter - i think this has been mentioned earlier somewhere else on this board. |
goinback 13.03.2004 21:02 |
Yeah DVD does that too, and GVHI had the same problem (and case). Ask if they can start putting the DVDs in cases that don't require the discs to be bent excessively everytime they're pulled out :) I bet that's why a lot of the DVDs don't work. I can barely get my discs out without ruining them. |
