I've been searching but can't seem to find any of his work quite as weird as the Innuendo stuff. What I'd really like is to find a print of something Queen used.
Has anyone else had luck with this?
These are the closest I've found so far: link
Edit: And here's a page from Brian's site which shows some of the originals.. link
Edit: And now I've found a book of his illustrations: link
Hmm, perhaps that will have to do. Good price for an 8 x 11.
I have two books (each about 700 pages) with (almost) all pictures of Grandville. If anyone is interested I could make some scans of the pictures Queen used
Over the years I have collected some books with drawings by Gustave Doré and also have one of Grandville. I've had it for years stored away and just by reading this post I realised I have this book of Grandville from whom Queen used some images! The book I have is called "Scènes de la vie privée et publique des animaux". Just looked through it quickly and found a drawing that looks slightly like the IGSM sleeve. I will make a scan of it. It's not from IGSM but looks a bit like it.
Thank you P_G!!!!!!
I was just going through endless links which seemed to lead to the same small collections of prints.. this PDF book is going to be quite fun to go through :)
PoPPo_G, if you can find the one which became 'Slightly Mad' that would be cool.
I uploaded a few pics into the pictures/miscellaneous section. But when I go to that page I cannot see them yet. These are the pics (the originals from Grandville): Innuendo LP front and back, Innuendo single front and back, Show must go on front and back, I'm going slightly mad front.
Yeah, those seem to take a little while to show up usually. I think the higher ups have to approve them or something ;)
Thanks in advance then for sharing them!
PG - you mention a different book. Your book is "Autre Monde" and mine is what I mentioned. Abbreviated it's called "Les Animaux" as you can see on the link to a picture of a book, in a previous post. I have scanned the pic I described and put it on my site, see menu-item Back Chat.
The pics which I uploaded to Queenzone yesterday are from the book Grandville - Das gesamte Werk. The originals belong to the following works:
IGSM: Scènes de la Vie privèe et publique des Animaux (1842)
TSMGO & Innuendo (single and album): Un autre monde (1844)
BTW my pic of IGSM is different than the one from Rien. The one I uploaded (hopefully it will come through very soon) is more like the artwork that Queen used. If someone is curious I could email the pics, just let me know which ones you want.
I went through every page of that online book and saved every PDF which had an illustration, LOL. Something like 285 of them. I wanted to choose a few and print them.. but now I realize there's no way to browse these, like with thumbnails.. I have to open each one to see what it is. Life is hard ;)
Rien, that version is quite different, but very cool. Thanks for making it available.
PoPPo_G, still looking forward to seeing yours. I don't want to bother you with emailing, but if you want to, deaconfan@queenzone.com :)
I'm really temporarily obsessed with these. Art has never affected me so much. So many of them are funny, or seem to make social commentary without being too obvious.
If you happen to own the Queen The eYe video game, there are lots of images incorporated in the Innuendo Domain (disc #4). I love the game mostly for the music but the images are breathtaking -- wish I could play the game past the Arena Domain though!
