Don't get excited, I don't have them :) I'm wondering everyone's thoughts on how the tracks should be arranged..
Like, Freddie's box has one different version after another, back to back. To me this makes just popping the disc in and listening a bit tedious.. you hear the same song 4 times in a row.
However, an argument can be made for complete chronology, having everything in order which means different versions back to back, plus you can just program the version(s) you want to hear.
I'd be happy either way myself. Although I'm leaning more towards separate discs for separate versions.. like for the later years, 2 discs worth (estimate) of 12" mixes for example, 3 discs of instrumentals, whatever.
I just want them to be released, however they do it.
Will there be 12" mixes and instrumentals on the boxed sets?
I don't think so, cause there is enough material to put 10 or so discs, As for Freddie.....i don't think there was enough, thats why we got all the albums again, and instrumentals and crap like that
There fu&%!ing better be! I only mentioned instrumentals because Greg has stated in his answers thing that he wants to include instrumentals.. but they've gotta get all of the 12" versions out, particularly the Hot Space ones which haven't been on CD yet. The 12" Collection is missing a lot and was never widely available anyway, and the newest remasters aren't featuring any, so they've gotta get them out.
Stuff that was released (B-sides, 12"ers) and no longer available needs a permanent home on CD first and foremost before any unreleased stuff! (hehe, some of you will hate me for that)
I just hope they don't edit stuff like they did with the Hybrid Edit of Living On My Own on the FM box. I'd rather hear 2 incomplete demo's instead of 2 incomplete demo's mixed together.
I wouldn't mind if the 12" mixes get included. As said, the Hot Space mixes still aren't available on cd and would be nice to have in CD-quality. Same for some mixes of the Works.
Running order: In my opinion chronological would be the best option, and not 4 versions of Killer Queen after each other. I'd like to see something like this:
SUMMER 1974 BRIAN MAY HOME
01) Now I'm Here (Home Demo)
02) She Makes Me (Home Demo)
21/08/1974 SESSION @ STUDIO -XXXXX-
03) Flick Of The Wrist (Piano Rehearsal)
04) Killer Queen (Guitar Solo Outtake)
05) Studio Chat
06) Killer Queen (Guitar Solo Outtake #2)
07) "Tin Dreams" (Tenement Funster Acoustic Outtake)
28/08/1974 SESSION @ STUDIO -XXXXXX-
08) Stone Cold Crazy (Alternate Lyrics)
09) "Fuck" (Brighton Rock outtake)
etc etc - just made up this tracklist, so don't get your hopes up for a SMM home-demo :-D
And I would rather never hear noisy live crap or a 20th alternate take of Keep Yourself Alive. That's why different people have different opinions and it makes the world go around :)
It's also why EVERYTHING should be released.. so there's something for everyone to enjoy. I'm just stating that stuff which has been released but is no longer available or never was on CD NEEDS to be included, cuz to me, that's logical.
Frankly I'd rather see little releases of stuff than boxes.. a b-sides disc or 2, 12" versions, and a worldwide release of the Japanese karaoke discs, preferably remastered to include full versions and not mediocre quality video versions recorded from laserdisc, which is what they were produced for originally.
"Frankly I'd rather see little releases of stuff than boxes.. a b-sides disc or 2, 12" versions"
Indeed, a b-sides cd would be nice to have officially released outside of a boxset. But IF something like that happens, it'll probably be a double-cd with the "Very Best Of Queen" on disc 1 and the b-sides disc as a bonus-disc so QP makes more money - in a similar way like U2 did with their best of's...
And then release the "Very Best Of Queen" cd also seperately, of course - so that collector's would've to buy both :-)
Well, Brian answered a question about B-sides on his site by saying something like "When the Complete Collection is ready I'm sure they'll all be represented"
And Greg said in reference to where to find 'A Human Body' something like "Watch for volume two of the box sets"
I don't want 12" versions on the box set!!! I already got them on vinyls!!! On the box sets I expect the UNAVALIABLE stuff; just like Pim said before- some outtakes, guide vocal tracks, etc....
I prefer the first take of each song, than a take when 50% is done and one of the final takes, so you can hear the different stages of each song. Besides that,
- demos of unreleased songs, no matter how bad they are,
- all extended versions,
- all b-sides
- instrumental versions (if they are interesting)
- hmm thats it I think :)
the b-sides and extended versions are just to complete the set. Although many have already been released on cd, they should be on it, cause the box sets must contain all material that wasn't available on any album
I think it's safe to say that there will be all that we want. But this? -> "On the box sets I expect the UNAVALIABLE stuff"
First of all, unavailable stuff goes without saying. Secondly, the boxsets are supposed to represent the content that was also released over the years, e.g. 12" versions, extended, instrumentals, etc. etc.
Peace,
Adam.
"instrumental versions (if they are interesting"
Indeed. Not the crappy top 40 stuff like I Want To Break Free. I want instrumental versions of Innuendo, Fairy Fellers Master-Stroke, Liar, My Fairy King!
I think they should put instrumentals on the box set that were not featured on the Kareoke CD that was released in Japan. The Kareoke tracks are essentially instrumentals.
that means they can put up about 100 songs.
Nah, if there have to be instrumentals, then please give us the interesting ones.
Innuendo
In the lap of the gods
Leaving home ain't Easy
Nevermore
Seven seas of Rhye
>>Indeed. Not the crappy top 40 stuff like I Want To Break Free. I want instrumental versions of Innuendo, Fairy Fellers Master-Stroke, Liar, My Fairy King!<<
I couldn't agree more! In fact, I don't want ANY top 40 crap represented in any way, particularly that shite overplayed Bo Rhap.
"In fact, I don't want ANY top 40 crap represented in any way, particularly that shite overplayed Bo Rhap."
Hehe :-)
With top 40 crap I obviously meant stuff like AKOM, IWTBF, BL etc. Not great tracks like BoRhap and STL which were top 40 hits too :)
