As most of us know, there is a small snippet of Goin' Back at the end of Mother Love. Now, my question is.
Did Freddie ever record Goin' Back again after the original recording back in the early 70's? Because if you listen carefully, Freddie's voice has matured a lot since Goin' Back was originally recorded. The snippet featured on Mother Love, was not from the original version, as far my hearing can detect, but Freddie's voice from the 80's.
I think it was determined a while ago that the recording is actually slowed down, perhaps to suit the tempo of 'Mother Love', but that it is, in fact, the original recording.
I don't think so, for me it doesn't sound slow. It sounds different. It sounds like a very recent Freddie (recent as in 85 to 91).
The original recording was and still is shoddy, even the supposed "remastered" recordings sounds as such. Freddie on the Larry Lurex recordings was more nasal, and his pitch was way higher than 80's Freddie.
@ SR:
Did you listen to the boxset-version?
As far as i remember it is clear and maybe not so speeded-up.

I have always wanted to ans this about Made In Heaven:
Who is meant by that baby and why did they put that crying baby in the song? Does it have a special meaning that I missed??
The crying baby is a symbol of going back to roots. From death to birth.
I'm sure it's the same version of Goin' Back as the "original" one and it again symbolizes the return to Freddie's beginnings.
If you listen to the words of 'Mother Love', one meaning can be derived - that the protagonist of the song would like to find peace and solitude in his lifetime instead of the pain and suffering that has been inflicted upon him / her. It's been concluded that the mother's womb is the essential safe haven for any man, woman, or child - you're in complete isolation there, yet being nurtured by mother. So I assume, after Freddie's death, that by including the time-warp back through Freddie's years, one of the members of Queen added a baby's cry, not only to have the audio portrayal of life come full circle (death to birth, last recording ('Mother Love') to first ('Goin' Back')), but also to further drive home the meaning of the song.
The only way for someone like yourself to be convinced is to sit with the actual song and pitch shift and slow it down to match the Mother Love version. Only then will you truly believe.
Why is it so impossible to believe, anyway? And if you're really not going to believe us, despite the lack of anything suggesting otherwise, why ask in the first place?
Oh my why I ask...
First, I'm not an expert on music, and of music engineering.
Second, I ask because there are reputable people that know about the mechanics and the history of Queen/Freddie music. For example, Niek, and P_G. Also, this is the only forum that are filled, or used to be filled (come back!) with knowledgeable people that know about Queen's music.
Third, I'm a skeptic. I have to listen to believe. Until I find a way to figure out how to slow that tape, or compare/contrast that snippet with the original going back. I'll make my decision.
Fourth, well there is no fourth. Carry on.
Fifth, refer to reason four.
Sixth, knowledge is power.
