So....
What's that all about then? I actually remember it being used as audio wallpaper in shopping centres in the UK, even as late as 15 years ago.
There are pictures of Elaine Paige with Freddie, Freddie even went to a party thrown for Elaine Paige when she won some award or something, all this was in the late 80s around the time she was working with Mike Moran on The Queen Album.
The Queen Album was recorded - at least Elaine's vocals were recorded - at Mountain Studios around the same time Queen were recording The Miracle, and obviously they knew about the album.
What's my question? Well, my question is kind of, why? Why was it done? It's a really kitsch album, it doesn't fit at all. I know Queen fell victim to the "Symphonic Rock" outfits of the 80s as well so perhaps it was just the easy listening zeitgeist of the late 80s but.... Has anyone on this forum apart from me had the misfortune of hearing the album? It's only a step up from Anita Dobson
Yes i have heard the album and for me it is another artist furthering there career to look cool singing Queen songs and wanting to look trendy. I never purchased the album because it was cheesy.
Shirley Bassey recorded a version of "Who Wants To Live Forever" and it was ok and i am sure Freddie would have been humbled by it.
By all accounts Queen weren't involved on the record but took some kind of interest in it during the recording phase. They probably popped in to see how she was doing. She was certainly good friends with Freddie so probably asked him if it was OK, and he took it to the band who saw the (admittedly small) dollar signs and said OK.
Yes obviously Elaine Paige was involved with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice so Freddie would have felt very honoured and persuaded the rest of the band to agree !
Well, I bought it outta curiosity and it's exactly that - a curio.
There's pictures of her with Queen in the CD bootleg so there's no doubt they were 'Pally '.
Now I saw Elaine in '04, in Edinburgh, Mike Moran was her musical director and pianist for that tour, so it was good to see him too. She sang 'Love of My Life' and introduced it thus: 'Are there any Queen fans here tonight ? - I actually auditioned to join Queen ........i came fifth ! '
I also came across one of her live concerts on tv in the late 90's and she did, much to my surprise, do Radio Ga Ga. So I think it's safe to say she's into Queen and all this was a little indulgence I guess.
I still have this album and I only bought it out of curiosity however...yes it is the kind of rubbish a supermarket would play while shopping, I remember reading her interview about the project etc that Elaine was/is a big Queen fan, also she stated how excited Freddie was in the studio as he listened to her singing A Kind of Magic he rushed in to the studio where she was singing and began singing the song also, but claimed he was screeching to reach the high notes as itt was all in her key. Well that was a very rough memory of the interview from one of the many old Queen books etc I bought back in the 90s. I suppose some may like it and many wont, I think I last listened to it in the early/mid 1990s. Shirley Bassey sang Who Wants To Live Forever and The Show Must Go On quite a few times I'm sure it's on YT but there not that bad lol
I never artists who cover Queen songs because they only do it to look cool.
The only cover that was classy was Shirley Bassey's cover of " Who Wants To Live Forever"

Gerald (again) you're wrong.
the only periods since Freddie's death, when Queen were "cool" - were because of other events bringing Queen back (from the wilderness) to a wider audience again.
1. Wayne's World
2. QAL
3. Bohemian Rhapsody movie.
If anything, bands don't cover Queen to "look cool", often it's good bands covering Queen, who make Queen (briefly) cool again:
Foo Fighters - Now I'm Here
Metallica – Stone Cold Crazy
Stone Temple Pilots - Sheer Heart Attack
Foo Fighters - Tie Your Mother Down
Dream Theater – Flick Of The Wrist
Queensryche - Innuendo
Def Leppard - Now I'm Here
Bruce Kulick/Jeff Scott Soto - Save Me
Velvet Revolver - Tie Your Mother Down
Like a fool I bought that Elaine Page LP from what I can remember it was awful.I can't stand any Orchestra Queen type album,it just does not work the type of stuff they can get away with played in a elevator or budget supermarket.
