Have you seen this short video? It highlights his youth and innocence. Check out his bass playing at 1:29. My favorite part is Roger talking about how explains how John went along with it after they already had an album. link
What are your favorite John Deacon songs? Mine are Another One Bites the Dust, You Are My Best Friend and Spread Your Wings.
John is my favorite member of Queen, and it likely has something to do with his technical bent and quiet nature.
My favorite songs are You and I, Who Needs You, Another One Bites the Dust, Pain Is So Close to Pleasure, and Rain Must Fall.
15 years ago, I won 2nd place in the mime competition at the N.A. Breakthru competition by playing air bass ala John Deacon style.
I also did a cosplay (during a costume parade in the hotel ballroom) of John Deacon at Breakthru of when John wore a Chicago Blackhawks hockey jacket during the We Will Rock You and Spread Your Wings videos.

You both have a technical background that's why you can relate. I liked how Freddie took John under his wing when John first started and they seem very close. Wow, that's awesome you got 2nd place! Great job at both events! Rain Must Fall is a good song too. Light and upbeat.
As an introverted person myself, who needs to get drunk to be able to be social with real life people, I like him as a person. I also think he's a really good bass player when the official releases allow you to hear his playing. But as a songwriter? I don't know, Spread Your Wings is great, AOBTD too, and of course I Want To Break Free, but nothing else really. So... yes and no.
I like John and his shy personality a lot. I think it's very respectable what he did to bow down at the time he did. He was also the balancing act against the other three. The only "problem" with his songwriting is that when he actually did write something, it would often become a hit of such epic proportions that it became unbearable to listen to. Having said that, his best ones are easily AOBTD, YMBF and IWTBF, but I also like Spread Your Wings, Who Needs You and even the slightly saccharine My Life Has Been Saved. Overall, a great bass player with occasional strokes of true melodic genius.

You & I wants to have a word with you. His best song, IMHO. Especially the bridge-like part. Very clever chords and harmonies.
I love John...I’d have to say my favorite of his is Misfire, just a fun and catchy song I enjoy. As far as his playing, I really like the bass line in Sleeping on the Sidewalk, classic walking bass and done well.
