Would it be worth it to go to Montreux on September 5th without attending any of the official events (boat trip, concert, birthday dinner)? Will there be enough stuff going on in the actual city?
Just to give you a quick perspective: I'll have to drive to Montreux for 3 1/2 hours. So would the trip be worth it?
Really depends on your personal taste of the activities in the city. And even without them you might enjoy just being there by the lake and such.We can't tell you what you will enjoy.
Also, 3,5 hour drive is nothing. Just go man.
Fear not! I cometh to tell you the truth.
Needless to say, I've been there a very long time ago, but judging from my sinking feeling, it will not be worth the trouble.
Gute Nacht,

Hard to say. I was there in the late 90's without much information on hands. So, that was a very confusing but thrilling trip for me.
It worked for me because at that point in my life it feels totally right to do it. Nowadays my vibe is completely different.
You get a 50:50 from my side.
Visited in January (from Australia) because it was not far out my way during a trip across Europe. So no special events going on but, as a life-long Queen fan, I found it pretty satisfying. I wouldn't go just for the statue, but I was happy to get the predictable tourist photos.
The surroundings are beautiful, the city and surrounding towns are interesting to explore (eg; Vevey), the exhibition at the casino is not huge but is pretty tastefully done and it felt special just to be in that place. There is a particular souvenir shop on the main strip with a lot of Queen merchandise. I scooped up five or six new t-shirts that I'm pretty happy with.
By the way, we traveled to Montreux on The Golden Pass rail line, which was an absolute knock-out.
Hi, was there just a couple of weeks ago. For me it was a two hour drive from where I was on holiday.
I already visited the statue without the exhibition, so this time it was something extra. The exhibition is i.m.h.o. worhwhile as its a magical spot.
Go for it
I've been to Montreux, before it had its Fred connection. To be honest, I was disappointed. Not much to do in the town itself, although the lake is nice and the countryside offers all sorts of outdoor opportunities. If it's still the same as back then, and if you're just going to see the town then you might be disappointed. Why not google street view it and take a walk around first.
I was there in 2004 with my father who now has passed away. It's the best memory of us two in my life. It was not just because we met David Richards and Phoebe that this was epic, but the lake, statue, mountain ,just evetything made this happening into something to remember for life.

andres_clip, I am sorry for your loss and I sincerely hope that you are able to cope with it constructive way. May your pain turn into an even stronger bond with your father.
All the best,

It is a small quiet city by the beautiful lake. Went there with a freind around end of the 90's and 2000 and the second time we were let into Mountian studios and had a short walkthrough with Davied Richards himself. Went to the Hotel were Queen were usually staying and to the house where Freddie had his flat. Magical place and worth the trip. If Switzerland wasnt thatridiculously expensive I would go there again in a minute just for the exhibition
