Brian has posted about a deal on the Queen Monopoly game, basically moaning that it hasn’t sold as well as it should after all the time and effort he put into it. Am I the only one that wishes he’d actually care less about his morphing into Gene Simmons from a merch point of view, and care more about the music? All the hours spent on this game could have gone on starting a Queen Anthology, or his solo collection which was promised and again failed to be delivered. So frustrating. |
brians wig 30.07.2018 16:44 |
Well I didn't buy it. Apart from the the Robot, the game pieces are rubbsh. Surely it should be obvious to even an idiot that they should have been the band members! |
Dr Magus 30.07.2018 17:57 |
Is monopoly even a popular game these days? Seems tremendously old hat. |
Galileo1564 30.07.2018 18:26 |
You aren't the only one. I haven't played monopoly in likely more than 40 years and I listened to some Queen today. |
matt z 30.07.2018 19:49 |
Haha. Yeah. Unfortunately few people sit down and actually do things. I wanted to buy it but it wasn't generally available in the USA. |

Crazy that Brian thinks that if you put work in something it will be automatically a succes. Or worse: it DESERVES to be a succes. Monopoly is a great classic game. Of course it made total sense to release a Queen version. But as Brian might or might not know, there are hundreds of variations. People that like Monopoly don't need another version. They have one already. And people that like / collect Queen aren't necessarily the same people that like to buy a boardgame. This product was always doomed to be a niche product. And that is perfectly fine of course! Brian completely lost it if he thinks it DESERVES to be a bigger seller than it was. Stick by doing what you do best I'd say (music, animal protection, co writing books etc). And don't be disappointed if something you did that is not your expertise isn't the success you hoped it would be. That's life. |

I think he missed the boat with it. It would have been nice great in the 80s or early to mid 90s...now, although I think it was a cool idea, board games are not what they used to be. |
people on streets 30.07.2018 21:30 |
This is what he should have realised before thinking people would 'en masse' run to the store and purchase another version of the game they already have: link |

I just saw in the news, that board games are in again. The market has sold 25% more games in the last three years. People are getting back together to play. Especially the 20-30 year olds. (News in Germany, where the Game of the Year 2018 had justieren chosen. That‘s wha that topic occurred in the news.) The questions are now: Is it the same in the UK? And are 20-30 year olds interested enough in Queen? Or are there simply too many Monoüoly versions on the market as someone else suggested? (And no, this game isn‘t sold here either.) |

Must be a bad earnings month, he was also stating this week in his website soapbox that only the red guitars are selling like hot cakes and none of the other colors are selling. |

I believe the kidz (with a z) are starting to like boardgames in the UK again. It's not a pub these days if you don't have some squares in the corner playing chess. I think for a novelty Monopoly set I'd rather get a Star Wars one - Money and locations - it seems to make sense to me. A Queen one doesn't, being a more abstract concept of success and stages. I'd happily look through the Community Chest and Chance cards through - I'm sure they have entertaining stuff on them. |

The board just isn't pretty enough to attract the average consumer. It's quite worrying if Brian genuinely put effort into it - I assumed it was a lazy side project. I might have considered buying it, if the board had a consistent artistic theme, but it's really just a series of photographs, live album covers and ticket stubs that have been thrown together. The plastic stage you build (instead of houses and hotels), is hideous in my opinion. The basic premise of moving around the board, like going on a world tour, is an interesting idea. But I think the product itself looks cheap and tacky. |
emrabt 31.07.2018 16:12 |
Is there anything more unrelated to the band, should we try to find the least Queen related Queen branded item? However each band member gets a song in place of the train stations, which is good, very equal, i can see it taking brian weeks to come up with that. |
RS_Protos 31.07.2018 17:07 |

Brian has had terrible bad lapses of taste with Queen product. That stupid book with the glasses and now the Monopoly box, not to mention working with Dappy, Five and now Adam Lambert May is a disaster zone and thank god Freddie directed him into the right place from "Smile" which was going nowhere fast. Wish Freddie was still here at least he would snap May out of his ridiculous ideas. |
emrabt 31.07.2018 17:56 |
It wasn't all Freddie, if we are using band members leaving for when things got bad, logically John Deacon would be the ideas man.... It's just Brain is getting more and more out of touch with what fans and the public in general want, there was 4 members putting in ideas and perfecting products, then three, then Two and now it seems Brian is left to control the brand more or less alone, while Roger's job is to buy bigger burlap sacks to put money in. And i mean absolutly no disrespect to Brian but his interests are very eclectic, Space, 3d imagery, badgers.... and none of these really sell well when forced into Queen products. Adam Lambert is good if only for the fact we started getting some 70's concerts officially released, when they were with Paul Rodgers we only got 80's rockier stuff (matching the current with the past). |
