What sort of John Deacon would we have today if Freddie/Queen was still around today?
First up... As Freddie put it.. " I wouldn't go round to Johns house... he's got like a hundred kids..." (not sure if this was the exact comment...)
John being the family man and... going on from the many reply's over the years... Its fair to say, he would have gone and put more time into his family over the last 26 years than Queen. Regardless if Freddie was still here. He would probably not quit to that extent.. More of a back step but Queen would probably have been an after thought at the very most...
But what if....
What if, through Freddie's death... All of those rumors, ideas, discussions, snippets of information from close friends to Johns ('Freddie's death affected him badly,' says Deacon's college friend and musical collaborator, Robert Ahwai.) It all ended up leaving a huge negative impact on John? Depression, isolation, Brian's involvement/potential bust up in the MIH recording's.. (could one say Queens equivalent of a possible Slash/Axl or a Mustaine/Metallica feud...) What if that all never happened.
Where would John be today???
Staying with Queen for a moment.... Certainly the two last albums of the 80s saw his involvement in Queen go to a whole new level in songwriting. 6 possible 7 maybe 8 songs in just two albums that he was involved songwriting wise!!! A possible five alone on "The Miracle" Including "My life has been saved..." Fair to say, songwriting wise... John was still there... and wow he only just turned 40 in 91, Still so very young!!! There was still very much left in the tank for John and Queen album wise!!! Innuendo had effectively become songwriting wise.. more of a Freddie, Brian, Taylor album for obvious reasons...
But outside of Queen???
Could we have seen John, with his approach and feel for RnB and soul music.. Gone down the track of producing and or writing songs for other artists, playing bass or smooth telecaster for bands or backing tracks for sole artist's???? In other words..
Outside of the strenuous and family destroying world of touring... Could we still have seen John Deacon, balancing family life, the odd Queen get together but more importantly.... Could he have still kept a face in the music industry or at the very least... Pop up on "How to play bass, The millionaires waltz" on youtube???
Where would you guys see John over the last 26 years??
Turning his 80's afro into dreads and go gigging with Wyclef Jean??? Couple of gold chains round his neck and a $ painted on his Fender Jazz playing Bass for Snoop Dog?? Op shopping with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis?? Writing grammy hit songs for Rihanna????
What we DO know is that without his patronizing bar maids and strippers, some may not have made it to college dropout status. ...and a few may not have graduated beauty school/beauticean courses
^ hahaha.
The Deaks....?
They could do but of modern day jukebox.... Imagine John on upright bass touring the pubs doing folk style covers with the family in a vw van.....
True what you said though about that stripper though and she would have missed out on that fame of being a groupie for a queen band member....

Fuck.... When you think about it..... 6 kids.... the possibilities are endless !!!!!! That's a half decent folk band right there.... throw in the Mrs and a couple of grandchildren and you have a full line up.... Banjo flute bagpipes mandolin....
Turn it into a punk folk band and you have The Deaks........ Mumford and sons/ Dropkick Murphy's rival!!!!!
