Hey guys. I'm a German Queen-fan since '87 and new here, but I've been reading this forum for years now. It's very informative and actually also very funny. I don't know if this has been discussed before but I thought I'd post this. I've been watching a lot of Queen-documents the last couple of days and I noticed one comical thing. Paul Gambaccini really loves to tell that story about how he saw Freddie in the nightclub Heaven and how Freddie told him how he doesn't care about the "new disease" and how Paul got a "sinking feeling". From YouTube I found the following quotes: 1.Days of our lives part 5, around 13.25 2.The Freddie Mercury story-Who wants to love forever, around 35.30 3.Story of Queen:Mercury Raising, around 49.50 4. When Freddie met Kenny, around 28.20 5. Freddie Mercury biography, around 1.50 There maybe more, those are just the ones I was watching this week. If I knew how, I would edit all of those into one video, because I would think it would be a very funny montage. I mean how many times has he told this story? |
Viper 28.07.2017 14:54 |
lolol. Nice catch! I remember him telling that! |
Grizzly Adam 28.07.2017 15:14 |
I will try to have a look at these videos over the weekend and mix something together for you. |

Could you provide the YouTube links for me please. |

Grizzly Adam: Sounds very good. I try to link them when I'm using a better wi-fi. |

Gambaccini is a parasite. |

I can't stand the cunt either. |

Perhaps he just really likes that song (MMB). |

Gambaccini and Freestone 2 scary people brrr.. Want to watch an Queendocu without those 2 |
BETA215 29.07.2017 06:52 |
You could actually make something like a "remix" (I don't know how to name it), with each Gambaccini (the DOOL one, the SoQ one, etc.) telling a part of the story. That would be duckin' hilarous :'D |
ANAGRAMER 29.07.2017 07:04 |
Perhaps it's always the same as it's the truth..just a thought |
Mr.Michael 29.07.2017 09:46 |
The story is propably true, but it's still pretty funny how there can't be a Queen/Freddie documentary without this dramatic story. There's just something that makes me laugh. I actually think there could be many different scenarios for those remixes. It would be also funny if they would just follow each other. The same story over and over again. And always there's that "sinking Feeling". |
Sebastian 29.07.2017 11:49 |
Well, it's like Mike Moran always telling the same story of his head-on collision and how Fred wanted him to do more flamboyant ornaments and didn't change his mind once he learnt about the accident. |

No to be in another one documentary where everybody waits from you story. To be but you must try to tell something new. I think he's done third way. Money. And doesn't really matter that I can't say nothing new. Money , easy money. |
brunogorski 29.07.2017 17:27 |
This is awesome. hahahahahaha |
RafaelS 29.07.2017 22:16 |
Gambaccini is a nobody in Freddie's entourage. He wasn't even close to Freddie, so I don't get it we see him in every Queen/Freddie related documentaries. As for Freestone, he wish Freddie had fancied him, but I don't think Freddie was ever interested by that fatso. |
Dr Magus 30.07.2017 15:21 |
Yep Gambaccini is a first class cunt. |
mooghead 30.07.2017 19:06 |
"so I don't get it we see him in every Queen/Freddie related documentaries" He is in EVERYONE'S documentary. Doesn't speak 2 words about people when they are alive but as soon as they depart there he is talking about the times they met and how close they were and the things they said to him, willing to bet he has never appeared in one of these things without a fee... Did I tell you about the time I met Fred? Told me his buck teeth were false and just a gimmick and he felt a sexual attraction to butter. Prove it didn't happen ;-) |

Of course you're going to hear stuff being repeated. |
Mr.Michael 04.08.2017 12:57 |
Like I said before it's really not about the fact that he tells te same story. It's about the way he tells it. The way he pauses and looks to his left or right before revealing the next line etc. Brian and Roger have obviously more variety in their stories because they have gone through a lot more with Freddie. But I actually like Gambaccini as a music journalist. His interviews are pretty interesting and he asks good questions. Grizzly Adam: Any progress on those remixes? Really looking forward to them. |
Mr.Michael 22.07.2018 13:08 |
Too bad the remixes never happened. But I do wonder, does he still have that sinking feeling? |
Darren_1977 23.07.2018 15:16 |
LOL - head on collision , every time i hear it drives me fucking insane!! |
The Fairy King 26.07.2018 10:13 |
I liked his story about the time he was in the Royal Opera House and saw Freddie's reaction to seeing and hearing Montsy for the first time. |
Stardust Parade 07.08.2018 03:26 |
Freestone rubs me the wrong way. I mean I understand he WORKED for Freddie for 12 years, but he acts like they were best friends which I don't believe at all. He always comes off as fake and I think his blog on Freddie's official fansite is a bunch of BS. He's obviously only in it for the money. |
The Fairy King 07.08.2018 06:59 |
Phoebe seems pretty genuine to me and the only guy that speaks of Freddie with respect and admiration. He is the guy that has seen most of Freddie and i would believe him over any of the bandmembers (especially Brian). :D |
Invisible Woman 07.08.2018 09:27 |
I read in Gambaccini's biography on Wikipedia that he has written a lot of books about music. Did anyone read some of his books? |
Costa86 07.08.2018 14:13 |
Phoebe definitely saw the most of Freddie, given that he said on a Channel 5 documentary, 'Freddie's Loves', that Freddie had a "massive cock". Although that much was evident just from seeing Fred in leotards, to be fair. |
emrabt 07.08.2018 16:18 |
I don't think Freestone's only in it for the money, but I do think maybe Freddie meant more to him than he did to Freddie so his admiration makes things a little bit rose tinted and exaggerated. The problem is at some point everyones stories will be told and there's nothing left, so documentaries will become more and more repeated, with the same people telling the same stories in interviews, and 'new' people will be further from source... Case in point, the Bruce Lee documentary where they interview the man who met the Guy that set up the lights on Enter the Dragon. |

Stardust Parade 08.08.2018 07:08 |
emrabt
Yes, that's very obvious lol. It just feels like he's trying too hard (to me anyway) whenever I hear him talk about Freddie, like he knows he's running out of "new" things to talk about and is milking it for all it's worth and embellishing EVERY detail of his life. Mary never gives me that impression at all when I've seen her the very few times she's given interviews about him. She talks about him like a normal person, and by all accounts she was probably the closest person to Freddie besides Jim. |
emrabt 08.08.2018 12:27 |
I agree Mary is a totally private and respectful and for the most part has shun a lot of documentaries, when she does appear she's always careful about what she says. She clearly had a much deeper connection with Freddie than a lot of other people, i suspect that she is one of a very few that really knew him like a family member. She also, quite rightly in my opinion (as it's her house) refused to let universal film in garden lodge for the Biopic. |
Stardust Parade 08.08.2018 19:09 |
Good for her! I don't think I'd want strangers filming a movie in the house I was living in either. At least they don't let people draw on Garden Lodge's wall anymore. I don't know how she was able to put up with that for years. I'd hate to look outside MY house and see some random person scribbling on MY wall. Ya, I would much rather watch Mary being interviewed about Freddie than Phoebe. I enjoyed the interviews his mom sister gave as well. |
Dean_ 14.08.2018 01:04 |
Why do some of you guys not like Peter Freestone and Gambaccini? |
Dr Magus 14.08.2018 12:21 |
Gambaccini is a smug cunt who has no relevance whatsoever to the Queen story. |
