As requested here are the laserdisc rips of one of the finest documentaries on Queen, The Magic Years. Sadly still unreleased on DVD or Blu-ray, a real shame. Chief Mouse was also asking for these so maybe he can work on this. Just one note, as i do not own a laserdisc player these are not my rips. I've just found them on a movies torrent tracker. So nothing has been worked on or being altered. These are uploaded on my Stack account for you to download. If it may not work let me know and then i will try another option. link |

Nice one, if it comes out on blu-ray or DVD I'll buy it again. Is this a transfer of the US laserdisc? |
Jimmy Dean 03.07.2017 10:23 |
THANKS! many years ago I ripped them from the VHS... however, the dvds i ripped them to got damaged. and i never had the patience or time to do it again. this should look a lot better! |

Barry Durex wrote:That's okay. I have checked. It's 29,97. Weird as the guy who posted it on the movies tracker marked it as UK. He got them off Ebay and transferred them to dvd into mkv files.dave76 wrote: As far as i know as it says in the discription it's UK.I only asked as the mkv's are NTSC and by the looks of it there wasn't a PAL UK release on laserdisc link |

Was he in the UK? If so he must of had a multi region laserdisc player. |

Would be a bit of a maverick to have an dedicated NTSC laserdisc player if he lived in the UK. :-D |

Thanks for sharing. I have this on old VHS-rips and I'm sure this will be an improvement. |

It's easy to forget how amazing this was when it came out. Much like Rare Live and subsequent official docs, part of me allows them to be lax on the rare audio side because we certainly have been spoilt on the visual front over the years. |

I remember a mate and I sitting enthralled by this when we were at school - but even for 13-year-old kids, the errors in photo captions etc were just too much to put up with. Champions Of The World put most of it right, but it took until DOOL to get something verging on the definitive. |

Thanks for this. Here is a torrent for those who need it. Hope that those who have downloaded earlier can also help to seed it. |

For anyone that's interested you can mux these 3 files to M2TS using tsmuxerGUI, burn all of them to a single DVD5 and play them on a blu ray player. |

queenside wrote: thanks a lot. i hope someone can say if this one is better quality or the one found on this link....What I can say after watching these mkv shares is that I noticed there are some sections that contain duplicate frames. This results in rather jerky playback in places but it's not something that can be fixed I'm afraid. |
queenside 05.07.2017 05:29 |
thanks. so you are saying the ones shared on this thread are in better quality? |
Barry Durex 05.07.2017 05:55 |
queenside wrote: thanks. so you are saying the ones shared on this thread are in better quality? If you ignore the duplicate frames, then I guess so. Some might prefer the interlaced PAL transfers Chinwonder2 created though. |

Thanks for this....Great stuff. |
Nitroboy 05.07.2017 18:03 |
Not to sound ungrateful, but does anyone else have a better LaserDisc transfer? These rips aren't ideal, considering they're ~1GB for 1 hour of video. Chinwonder's VHS transfers in XP mode are still the best in my humble opinion :) |
rhapsody8 06.07.2017 09:34 |
Thanks a lot for sharing. It's a good update really. But I wonder that Mr. Chief Mouse wants to play with this. Maybe we can get the best possible quality. Any plan or possibility for that dear Chief Mouse? |
Barry Durex 06.07.2017 13:22 |
Even CM can't fix duplicate frames. |
Biggus Dickus 06.07.2017 13:28 |
Nice, thanks. |
Chief Mouse 06.07.2017 13:30 |
Barry Durex wrote: Even CM can't fix duplicate frames. In fact I can, I have done that for a few videos shared on QZ already if you had read the descriptions I sometimes post along them :-). I won't be bothered right now though cos another member sent me a better source of One Vision part (only that part) in MPEG (DVD format) which is interlaced NTSC and superior to this source. He might upload and share the full thing when he has spare time. Anyway, I managed to do a decent conversion of it to PAL and will try to include some bits of that in the GVH version that I posted. So a v02 should come soon! |
Barry Durex 06.07.2017 13:35 |
I stand corrected, but surely removing duplicate frames throws the audio out of sync eventually? |
Chief Mouse 06.07.2017 13:38 |
Not really. A video at 12 fps can play the same speed and a video at 60 can play in slow motion if desired. Depends on what you set it to. |
Barry Durex 06.07.2017 13:51 |
In some places approximately every sixth frame is duplicated, in others places all frames are present. Bit odd. |
Chief Mouse 06.07.2017 13:58 |
Perhaps some of the sources come from an NTSC master while others do not. |
Barry Durex 06.07.2017 14:17 |
Perhaps the laserdisc itself also suffers the same problem, although I would be surprised if it did. |
