Apart from queen, these two bands are up there with my favourite artists. Was too young to see them they play wembley and knebworth back in the day but wondered if there were other fans or recollections on here. Mike peters of the alarm featured a bit on the magic years doc and said later that freddie was a fan of their band.
To some, they would be remembered for mullets and bag pipe guitars but to me are very under rated British bands.
The Alarm were great at Wembley (Saturday) by far the best support of the day although as I remember it rained quite heavily when they were on. I seem to remember being stood next to a Finnish couple who had come over specifically for The Alarm. Been lucky to have seen them a few times since supporting U2 in 1987, The Damned in 2009 and The Stranglers in 2016 and they have always put on a good show.
Big Country at Knebworth were again the best support of that day I'm afraid that era of Quo really wasn't my bag, Quo should have stopped in 85. Big Country were on before Queen as Quo had another gig that night so were on earlier. I remember during Big Country's set Stuart Adamson stopping to take photo's of the crowd. If I remember rightly Big Country actually went down really well with what was a massive crowd.
Not quite what you're asking but I saw them at the Ulster Hall in 1989 and they were great. Always liked their cover version of Tracks of my Tears, and I loved their guitar sound. I agree they were underrated.
I prefered the Skids to Big Country, but still dug a couple of their singles. The Alarm, not so sure. Didn't they do a thing about 10 years ago where they posed as a younger band and scored a chart place?
Good to hear the recollections. I'm going to see big country tomorrow in Blyth of all places, not the same without stuart adamson but they are doing the seer album in full which is the record that they had out in 86. Also seeing the skids next month as they are releasing their first studio album since 1981!
Yes the alarm had two top 30 hits in 2004 and 2006 the first of which was a bit of a hoax as the band were portrayed by a bunch of teenagers to fool the radio stations.
