Some really interesting quotes from a 1998 interview which elucidate where Brian was at at the time. It was a very different place to where he is now...
On his and Anita's differing tastes:
"...we don't like the same things, we don't like to be in the same places! I didn't think that I could ever be with someone who didn't like Led Zeppelin! And the stuff she likes I got dragged into by my heels - you know, the whole world of musical theatre made me physically ill - and still occasionally does. But I've got used to it now because of her. I've learnt so much; she has enriched my life beyond measure."
On whether he missed playing as Queen:
"Sometimes you think, 'God it would be nice to go out one more time with the boys', because the offers are always there. But I don't feel it would be the same: and I don't want to do anything that's less than what we were. I'd rather leave it on a high. It's frustrating because as Brian May I can go out and play as I have done and I have a brilliant time. But I'll play theatres or whatever. With the brand name of Queen, you owned the city for a night. It's an amazing feeling, and I do miss that huge contact and sense of occasion."
"But I don't feel it would be the same: and I don't want to do anything that's less than what we were. I'd rather leave it on a high"
I wish he wouldn't have changed his mind on this topic. Instead he's ruining Queens legacy with these crappy Queen+ imitator concerts...
Me personally I didn't expect any stunning highlights from BM or the Queen+ Project.
The Queen vaults might have some surprises...or better said they have highlights right there but they've hired an incompetent staff . Also akward business decisions will ruin their legacy.

He was having an affair at the time, so perhaps that's (partly) why he didn't see eye to eye with Anita in terms of musicals and stuff, and didn't mind saying so. I wonder if he'd think the same now, considering songs from musicals are a major part of what he's done with the blondie.
He definitely seems to have come around to musical theatre, considering We Will Rock You and the Kerry collab.
As for his philosophy on the band - he seemed fairly committed to not using the Queen name, but he also outlines why it's an appealing idea, with the name instantly drawing more attention. His main point was that he wouldn't feel comfortable doing something inferior to the original lineup and still calling it Queen - I guess he gets around that now in that he seems to have convinced himself that Q+AL is as good a live act as Queen was.
