I have this CD single which I bought in 1998 or so in my hometown in Mexico. First time I'd ever seen a CD single as those were very rarely sold in normal CD outlets. It was all CD albums and then DVDs and stuff.
It's basically the same as the UK red BBC edition but the disc is not a picture disc. It's solid red with the title in yellow block letters.
My reason is posting here is to ask if anybody else has it and if there is any evidence that it's a fake/pirate edition and that there was no official Mexican release for Let Me Live.
Someone told me this recently and I really couldn't believe it since I've always thought it was original as I bought it in a reputable CD shop and it was, until recently, included in Queen Discographies all around (Andy's Queen Page, Queenpedia - I think).
Any idea?
Why would anyone want to pirate a CD single of Let Me Live in the 90's? Especially if it's the regular recording and not an edit of some sort?
If it was a known major rarity, I'd be suspicious of new-ish pirates, but not one so close to the time of release. I think you are safe.
Thanks Thistleboy. A fellow collector was offering good money for it but I politely declined since this one has sentimental value to me. Then he said another collector had told him that was a pirated version.
By the way, sentimental value and all, I recently sold a copy of the first, withdrawn Mexican edition of Made in Heaven for 500 USD but I only did so because I got a hold of a spare... and it was a lot of money, hehe. :)
I have it, too... looks quite genuine - with your copy I am aware of two more copies - one was sold on ebay a few years ago... another one is in the collection of a collector. So there are 4 copies around, likely...
Thanks LuckyRocks!
Any idea how much did it sold for on eBay a few years ago? I never saw it.
Not that I'm interested in selling but it's always interesting to see how much people pay for this sort of item.
