Today marks the 30th Anniversary of Queen's last concert and there is still no proper release of it. It is incredible that in 30 years QPL never bothered to give the fans any documentary of this great concert(Magic years does not count). Open Air at a hughe Venue, breaking record Attendance and a very solid performance. It would be great if at least they decided to release it digitally. I'd buy that. Any Thoughts??... |
Killer_queenIII 09.08.2016 10:48 |
Well the closest we got would probably be Live Magic, and saying that is a stretch, considering how lacking it was. Thankfully, we have Thank You All to document what happened that night 30 years ago. It's so uncertain whether QPL would release the entire concert. My cynical side tells me to wait for 2026 or keep dreaming. |

One of my favourite concerts. I'd be thrilled to have it as an official release. |

It could be a great day to celebrate Knebworth concert if QP released this year. But I'm afraid it could never happen... After Hammersmith Odeon release, I have some expectations about Hyde Park 76 release because of 40th anniversary and Knebworth Park because of 30th anniversary... A year which can be incredible for Queen fans gone to waste... What a shame... |

I know the chance is very, very slim, but does anybody know if a recording of Belouise Some exists? Or a good recording of the last minutes of the Status Quo recording? |

And it has more than one camera angle Here is a youtube link for the footage link Audio only link |

I know that one, I used it for the multi-source merge I shared here last year, but thanks anyway :) |

Nice one Kurgan, thanks! Did you enjoy the day? |

Nice pics, Kurgan! Mind if i ask if you saw what happened to Brian during CLTCL? Why he was using the Old Lady instead of the Tele? |

So this is it link Another source claiming what Brian May and QP told years ago is true. Knebworth wasn't recorded on video. If people still ask for that release... |

The Kurgan wrote: I was thereLucky you man!!!! Question. Do you remember for how long was the helicopter flying around during the concert??? That should give us an idea of how many aerial takes they have. Thanks! |

Doga wrote: So this is it link Another source claiming what Brian May and QP told years ago is true. Knebworth wasn't recorded on video. If people still ask for that release...Correct. But a huge amount of material was shot on film (16mm I believe). If they wanted they could release a 2CD full audio recording + a Blu-ray documentary containing all the concert footage they have including the backstage footage and interviews. Plus maybe a book containing some of the hundreds of professional photographs which exist |

Is it true that there was genuinely a subconscious feeling that Freddie was giving his last show ever, or was that something people said restrospectively with the benefit of hindsight? |
. 12.08.2016 07:07 |
I certainly didn't feel that way, nor did anyone else I was with. |
Killer_queenIII 12.08.2016 07:21 |
Well for everyone there that time, it's just the last night of the tour. It's probably WAY too early for the rumours to start at that point. |
Martin Packer 12.08.2016 13:58 |
I didn't feel that way (and I was there); And it didn't even occur to me in 1989 that we had anything other than an unusually long wait for an album - 3 years - going on. In fact I was getting concerned the gap between albums was getting bigger - and Innuendo somewhat allayed my fears in that regard (2 years). Little did I know. :-) :-( |
KevoM 13.08.2016 16:29 |
I was there too. Thing I rememberr the most is it being very dark (lights failure I think) and quite scary leaving after the concert. |
Doga 13.08.2016 20:04 |
Yeah, i read some reviews about that prblem with the power after the show, also one person was killed that day. The band was absolutely not responsible of that, of course, but imagine how tasty will look Queen for the angry media releasing the show, especially in those days, with Sun City so close. Another reason to throw the key of the archives of that day, of whatever they have. |
Vocal harmony 15.08.2016 07:23 |
The power problem at the end of the night was down to the authorities/police. Because the show was running late the band were not allowed to perform an encore. To ensue this didn't happen the power to the stage was cut, but also the power to the site lighting was also cut by mistake. |
Killer_queenIII 15.08.2016 08:55 |
Joke's on them, since the concert's over anyway. Didn't the same thing happen at Hyde Park 10 years earlier but for different reasons? something about controlling the number of people. |
Vocal harmony 15.08.2016 09:10 |
Yes, those in charge of the event failed to realise that Queen had performed their planned set and encores. Knebworth is very strictly controlled, with the village so close to the site. The licenses for shows are granted but only if curfew times have been obeyed. Yes something similar happened at Hyde Park, only this time it did result in no encore |

There was a similar problem at Milton Keynes. When the show finished they had to keep the three main banks of the lighting rig on in their final position at the end of GSTQ (white and facing the audience) because there didn't appear to be any other lights for the crowd to find the way out. i just remember seeing the road traffic in the distance. |

I don't think anyone knew at that point. Why would they? In the next 12 month Freddie did his Barcelona stuff and whenever a singer goes solo there's talk of it being the end of the band, but I don't believe anyone who says they 'had a feeling' back in '86. Queen were huge. I personally didn't see any rumours till the I want it All video came out in 89. But this was all pre internet so there may have been some local chatter before then, I'm sure there were some who heard stories before I did, but '86... naah. |
Killer_queenIII 15.08.2016 23:48 |
^very true. '86 was just way too early for any rumours to start, especially with the band and Freddie looking strong at that point. Maybe within Freddie's circle, something's going on, but I won't swear to that. As it stands, at least back in 1986, Knebworth was simply just the last gig of a tour. |

I'd actually refute the comments made by the St Johns Ambulance - I was in the guest enclosure and there was an inner fence and outer kept apart by struts at angles. There was a roadie in between the fences with a headset close to me and as I was watching him he suddenly leapt into action as he'd obviously just been told the news over the headset. He began jumping over the struts as fast as possible further down towards the corner of the enclosure and away from the stage. Then I saw they had dismantled the fence in that corner and an ambulance was reversed across the enclosure to that corner. I saw two St Johns ambulance men supporting the guy out of the crowd and into the ambulance. He walked out so I was very sad to hear he'd died later. We were all held up when we were in the buses going back to Milton Keynes station - the police got on each bus and went up and down looking for people. It was only when I found out later he'd died I realised it was connected. It is possible that it took quite some time to get to the guy in the crowd but once they had got him to the fence, they got him out very fast and he got medical treatment. The crew wasted no time and were very fast and very professional. |
