This is not "rather nice Freddie news", nothing new here. In part it is re-packaged "Lover of Life, Singer Of Songs" compilation, but some songs are out while others are added. Re-issued solo collection with updated, corrected liner-notes would be miles better. |

Considering we have a lot of Freddie stuff on the 2000 box, my top release would be this - compile all Freddie's interviews and appearances and performances (especially the 1988 Dominion Theatre), rushes and alternate versions of his music videos. Put it all on a Blu Ray. I'd buy that, I'd buy the crap out of it. |

I don't say this product is great. It's another cash-grabbing compilation for Joe Public as 'LOLSOS' was 10 years ago. But now they finally release this single remix on CD after 16 years of omission. I don't count these 7" edits which can be made in 5 minutes in Sound Forge. Some tracks timing from amazon: The Fallen Priest (single edit) 2:55 Living On My Own (single edit) 3:05 Made In Heaven (single remix) 4:08 The Golden Boy (single edit) 5:14 She Blows Hot & Cold 3:39 - it seems, they bothered to restore studio chat before the song for the first time since original single. |

If this is the "rather nice Freddie news" they're talking about, hate to sound like i'm complaining, but i'm not amused. It's like that Genesis R-Kive album all over again. We could at least hope this ain't the only thing released for Freddie's 70th. |

I'm so dissapointed with this forthcoming release. Although we get all his solo singles on coloured vinyl now we had all his solo singles in the past with the FM solo collection boxset or the Lover of life singer of songs compilation. For the new release we even not getting never before seen pictures. And i forget a couple of other Freddie compilations with all his singles. I was hoping for a spectacular release for his 70th birthday because our hero deserves it. Like what Chief said, i would buy that. How about some Queen demos Freddie worked on on his own. Video footage, interviews, The Great Pretender performance from a German show. So many options... But again the fans are left standing. |
The Fairy King 24.06.2016 07:42 |
Hm...does this mean we finally get FM solo on Spotify? :D |

Not entirely surprised at fan's reactions at this product, although looking at the comments here, I think they are a bit harsh. The 7" vinyl format has never before been released in its entirety until now, and on coloured vinyl too. Not sure what people were expecting. |
splicksplack 24.06.2016 08:53 |
This is SO fucking shit. I can not understand any Queen / Freddie fan buying this if they already have those tracks. It's just fucking infantile putting them out on coloured vinyl in an attempt to create a 'collectable'. Look on eBay for previous releases of QPL created 'collectables. They fetch fuck all. The only collectables in my eyes are as mint as possible original release vinyls of Queen albums and singles. Everything else is as important as that '40 years of Queen' mockrabillia book. |

I guess we'll see a simular release with all the 7" singles of Queen on coloured vinyl... maybe also a 12" collection box set. I'd be honest... never a second I'd await a great "never before released" FM release this year. I think no-one is really intereted in having those things. Only for some completists like me, this is an option to buy it. |

Queen productions/ island re release the same stuff, re jigged, re packaged re what ever in more exsensive wrapping with bells whistles and bows in some kind of miss guided belief that that is what fans and collectors want. Out here in the real world what we probably want is re mastered (maybe remixed) not compressed to hell and back good quality re releases with genuine rare extra tracks and a continuation of live 70's audio and where possible visual re leases, again carefully restored and mixed by someone who knows what they are doing. Other artists manage it, why not QP. . . Just for the record, I'm not buying into this re re release of songs that have long been available no matter who's birthday it is or how it's sold or packaged |

See I loved R-Kive, but I'm not a completist or even a really big Genesis fan but that album was perfect for me. Gave me all the stuff I wanted plus some other things I didn't really know. 10cc's Tenology box set was the same. Perfect for the non completist semi fan like me and included a lot of their videos too. The Freddie CD will accomplish the same task, and the vinyl box set will be bought by vinyl enthusiasts and Freddie completists. More and more I think the releases aren't really aimed at the true fans, but more at the casual ones. |

All of the Freddie solo stuff was out of print. So, this gets something of his back catalog available for physical sales and streaming. At least it has some stuff that was excluded from the Solo box. There's not really that much "new" to release. Anything that would be "new" would be held up by Dave Clark or the Michael Jackson estate. Realistically, the amount of work to make something new wouldn't be worth the cost. It's not like the new Barcelona release (which I liked) generated tons of sales. I see no reason for them to pour money into new material. The set looks well done (as was the Queen vinyl box). For those that want to buy it, I think you'll be satisfied. I think Queen and the Freddie Mercury estate have released products to satisfy different audiences. We've had vinyl, new songs, new compilations, new live shows in various formats, etc. |
LucasDiego 24.06.2016 11:05 |
I'll go in 2CD version. A shame that Love Kills single will come just 1 track, ok, the B side was a non Freddie track, but why not put the extended version to make the single with 2 tracks? |

No TMBMTLTT remix from Queen?? not a single song from the Time Musical (live performance)??? Just another compilation and re-release of already available material. what a pity... Another missed oportunity to release a proper product.... Well... i guess i'll just wait for this to be available via torrent. At this point i don't expect anything else worth buying from QP this year. At least if they re-considered putting out Hyde Park or Knebworth park(2 products NEVER before seen properly) as a Queen release.. |

Just for the record it seems like some here seem to think that there won't be a Queen product this year because of this Freddie set? Not sure where you're getting that from...I think it's quite probably we'll get a Queen release a bit later on this year (Novemberish) - probably the BBC Sessions which I for one would welcome if it's a complete package. This...well I think the 2000 box pretty much exhausted the Freddie archive....the only "new" stuff we could get would be the Dominion and that is not owned by QP so yeah. This is the type of product left from the Freddie archive... |

They're just going to see it in the record store in the new releases section. It's like the film industry - you do two for them, and one for you. This is the business model. Maybe the next one will be catered to hardcore fans. But if you're signed to a major record label, expect the compilations to come and come again. |

What a waste of time and effort. They are all doing with Freddies music all what he did not want to happen..A chance to have maybe a Mr bad Guy album with Queen mixes on it has been passed.Who the hell is controlling what stuff gets released.WhenThe Rainbow concerts were released,I felt so positive about future releases, but now I honestly don't know.Queens' musical releases apart from Rainbow and Hammersmith have been a joke.As a fan of over 40 years,i am appauled at this. How is it going to appeal to genuine Queen fans, fans who like most of us who have supported and paid thousands of hard earned pounds on our heroes. Are Brian and Roger more interested in touring with Adam Lambert these days or are there other factors behind the reason for all this sub standard releases being released. We are getting to the point of where if we are not carefull,Queens music will be lost |

I retract from some of my sayings: We (as fans, not hardcore fans, as simple fans) feel that this is incredibly unnecessary. That's where the anger comes from. Instead of releasing any of the expected/wanted recordings, we get the same stuff we have already heard (via YouTube or whichever service you prefer). I understand you Gayr, from your place in this (as Gary or Queen) you can't do anything against it. They signed a contract, and to let them release X things, you need to do Y things. It's just the prepotency of seeing this things released handling us furiously. I hope you understand us. |

So. What I think about this new compilation. In 2000 was released Freddie Solo Collection. In 2006 was released first compilation LOLSOS And now through 10 years will be released another one compilation You know what, Freddie solo material were printed not so often as Queen studio and live material. If Queen studio and live material printed almost every one or two years, about Freddie solo material I can't say. Of course they could be release again Freddie Solo Collection, but who'll buy it again. Of course they could release one bonus CD with studio outtake and so on, but you need to wait 80's Freddie's Birthday. So, from a different point of view this is good and bad release. One may criticize this release and the company that came up with this release. But the fact remains. |
Sheldon 25.06.2016 03:30 |
It's really unbelievable how much attention and re-re-rereleases such a brief and rather unsuccessful solo career has generated post-1991. I personally love pretty much anything with Freddie's voice on it, but does any non-fan actually buy this stuff? For example, during my entire life I have heard a FM solo song only a couple of times on the radio (once LOMO and once or twice TGP) and in addition to these Barcelona has received some wider attention. That's it. Still, the stunning Solo Collection was released way back in 2000, but with the exception of bits and peaces here and there, we are still waiting for a similar Queen product. |

The question is, why don't you know what people are expecting for the 70 anniversary of Freddie's birthday? Lack of interest? But if you or for that matter QP aren't that suprised with the (typical) fan, gives me the impression that you don't have the same interest as any Queen fan/collector. There's a limit to what can be released by a non producing deceased artist and a defunct band. It's natural things will be repackaged every few years. We don't need to buy it. Queen are not the only ones. Even nme favourites like The Smiths have more compilations than actual albums. |
The Ghost of Lester Burnham 25.06.2016 09:30 |
Honestly, I think it looks nice. I'm not going to buy it, because I have all the tracks already, but it's a very attractive and seemingly well-executed collection, as opposed to the horror story of Queen's singles collection from a few years ago. The title is stupid (why not call it what it is – "The Freddie Mercury Singles Collection"?) and the front cover brings back memories of that fucking lion with sunglasses from "Queen Rocks", but there's a beautiful, full color booklet and all tracks, except 'Love Kills', seem to replicate faithfully what was on the original vinyl. (Why 'Rotwangs Party' isn't on the B-side might be because they couldn't get the rights, or because it simply wasn't a Freddie Mercury track. That's my one gripe about the content – they could have put something else on there; as someone said, the extended 'Love Kills', or the demo version, or the Argentinian edit...) |

^ Nice concept. There are some omissions like 'Foolin' Around' full length version from 'Teachers' OST, and couple of 'Great Pretender' and 'Time' 1992 remixes from promo singles. Also I don't think it is necessary to feature all these shitty dance remixes from 1992-93 and 2006. |

I'm sure some stuff is missing, I just took a look at the singles/albums/compilations at Discogs. Either way - it would just be another rehash of stuff we've already had. However, it would keep the original albums in print instead of just a selection of singles - which are missing some of the best tracks in Freddie solo-career (La Japonaise etc). Put each album in a fold-out digipack, make a slipcase available for all 4 releases and you've got a great selection of FM music. I wasn't sure about including the 1992/2006 mixes either - but as they were official releases I decided to include them. Same goes for the 2012 remake of Barcelona. Every great album should be done like this. Unfortunately we got a 5 track bonus EP. Well, the title is pretentious as fuck, the cover is unsurprisingly awful and the mastering is probably going to be terribly compressed. What's not to like? |

Why everybody afraid of compressed sound? I certainly understand that there are fans of the warm tube sound without the compression and other modern trends. But apparently without it anywhere. |

A one minute fact check regarding link 'I Can Hear Music' is not a Beach Boys cover. The Ronettes released the original two years earlier. As to the 'what could have been' where I would have bought this. One can remove a LOMO remix, Let's Turn It On, Time [inst]. Use the extended versions of MIH and LMLTNT, add the LP or extended version of 'Barcelona', and the demo of 'Guide Me Home/How Can I Go On', Yes, WE have all of these, but they should be on a 'best of'. The other additions to fill it out: 'Man Made Paradise': LP and demo (AND possibly a 'finished' version) '....More To Life...: LP and Queen version (no MJ vocals) 'Time' and 'In My Defence': Dave Clark remasters. 'It's In Everyone Of Us' stage performace: polished. Oh, and a different frickin' title. |

Ummm, well cock me slowly back arse-wards I LOVE this release! I love the ideas and concepts behind it! I also love the title "Messenger Of The Gods: The Singles"! Seems perfectly titled as far as I'm concerned! Holy shit! It is fucking great! I also love the cover and the colors for it complimenting "The Album Collection" on vinyl as well as previous compilations such as "Greatest Hits II" and "Classic Queen"! (Perhaps that establishes what and how some compilation of some best ofs or hits for and by Brian May should be as well, eh?) I also would like to point out that I also love the compilation "Lover Of Life, Singer Of Songs: The Very Best Of Freddie Mercury Solo"! Both this and the new compilation are totally legit! I love them! Man why do people keep looking for some Freddie Mercury compilation of his "short promotional films" (i.e.: "music videos") when there are already two released? One on "The Solo Collection" and the other one that compliments "Lover Of Life, Singer Of Songs: The Very Best Of Freddie Mercury Solo". Is "Lover Of Life, Singer Of Songs: The Very Best Of Freddie Mercury Solo" really out of print?! Why? Just make more, duh! |

But for someone like me who's had that set since it was released, those sets would be just the same to me as this "Messenger of the Gods" CD set is. The issue is that Freddie had a very limited solo career meaning there's a limit as to how much they can do with the material. I think the vinyl set is a nice inclusion for fans of the medium. But, with them going that route, it would have been cool if they had reissued his three solo albums on vinyl too. As for why they haven't reissued the rarities from the box set for newer fans, my only guess is that they don't want to cheapen either the integrity and/or collect-ability of the box set, which still remains the best Queen-related product ever released, in my opinion. |

They won't rerelease it because it won't sell according to their standards/price summit. That's why it never got an official USA Release. I was a poor high school kid. Couldn't afford it. I guess I could track one down now. I remember they had multiple prints of the liner notes available for true fans of Freddie. You're right; it WAS the greatest thing QPL has released since Freddie's passing (with the exception ofMADE IN HEAVEN) 21 years. That's VERY sad. At least The Rainbow finally came out |

So, Greg's "exciting Freddie news" then......is this. I guess it's hardly surprising really, given that we've already had the Solo Collection box and the re-issue of the Barcelona album. Freddie didn't do anything else solo, so the ONLY option open to QPL is to resort to polishing up and popping out new boxes with pretty colours. It's too soon (even by QPL standards) to go down the documentary route again. I guess I was quietly hoping (after Greg's comments) that maybe some secret sessions had been discovered that Freddie had been working on and THAT would be the "exciting news". Sadly.......... |

At least we'll get a Freddie solo album on the streaming services. |

Secret sessions. That would be the spark which would've ignite this forum and then here it wouldn't be so silent these days. I wonder if Rhys contacted Andrew Lloyd Webber and spoke with him on the matter of these POTO sessions. He said he would do it (reddit session) and it would be great if we would know for sure if Freddie has made a guide vocal of "The music of the night" or not. |

(for clarity, a Posthumous dance remix of an average Freddie solo track does not). |

cmsdrums, re: >Anything held in the Lloyd-Webber or Dave Clark vaults would be enough to have me reaching for my wallet Yep - the live tracks from Time spring to mind. The lure of Phantom would have simply been too great for Freddie to ignore if indeed it was offered to him and after how deeply he threw himself in to the "Barcelona" project and how, critically, he stood up vocally. I reckon only HALF an invitation to sing the part would have had to be made and Freddie would have been in it 100%. Has the question been posed by ANY of the documentary makers? |
