Brian May: "Are we all on this Skype call boys?" Unknown Drummer: "Yep" Unknown Vocalist: ''Yep" BM: "Right, I'm booking a studio for a week away from Kensington because the noise there is beginning to get on my tits." All Unknowns: "Brilliant." BM: "Can you all be there for a full week?" All Unknowns: "Yep." BM: "I'm thinking of something along the lines of Black Country Communion........" All Unknowns: "So are we." BM: "We can also get Spike Edney in to make it all sound very 80's if the bods in the record company think we need to keyboard the hell out of it......." All Unknowns: "OK." BM: "I'm surprised you're all so compliant over this - don't you want to know any more? Fees? Material?" Unknown Drummer: "No Brian, we just want you to play some great rock guitar and stop fucking moaning about British mammals, bricks and space dust stuff." BM: "Why?" Unknown Bass player: "Because everyone's forgetting that THAT is exactly what you are so universally ADORED for. I know you might be bored by it after nearly 50 years, but look at what Townshend is doing every night; you could go one better and give up some new material." BM: "But I love them - they need to be championed." Unknown Bass player: "The rock and roll Gods are in agreement with you but you're sounding like John looked in the "Break Free" video; a moaning old lady. Snap. Out. Of. It." Unknown Vocalist: ''He's right Brian; it'll be good for the soul too. No one's expecting anything of something that's NOT Queen or whatever you call that these days. This could be a chance to let that curly grey hair down for a bit and just knock out some awesome rock and roll." BM: "Oh. I see. But what about Roger?" Unknown Drummer: "Sod him for a bit. He'll still love you as a mate; after all, he released his own solo band stuff as The Cross and you've got previous with Cozy and Neil, haven't you?" BM: "True. True. What about Kerry?" Unknown Vocalist: ''Seriously? Listen mate, whatever she's doing for you, it's pissing off the world to rock and roll immensely and if you don't stop that immediately, I'm going to personally come over there and make sure she's of no further use to you." BM: "No, don't do that; Anita will kill me." Unknown Vocalist: ''All right then." Unknown Bass player: "And no 50-something year old Abba tribute backing singers in dodgy boots and tight skirts trying to look as if they're 30?" BM: "Really?" Unknown Drummer: "Yes - no dignity in that whatsoever; they were rubbish too mate." BM: "OK. So, see you on the dates on the email then?" All Unknowns: |

Speaking of Fatty (I dont actually know who you are talking about) but the lyrics in Fat Bottomed Girls are reported as 'Left alone with big fat Fanny' But I always thought they were 'Fatty'. Quite hard to make out on the isolated vocal too. Thoughts? |

I've read fatty's stuff before, but always love re-visiting it. This one had me in stitches: 19th NOVEMBER 1991 Dear Diary The Pain has become almost unbearable and the doctors are reluctant to give me a straight answer as to how long I have left to live. To make matters worse, Roger came to visit me today and in the course of our conversation he mentioned his solo career. You can only imagine how shocked I was and it took all my skills as a stage performer to act as though I was aware of this. When he went home I had Pheobe look into this and it turns out he has released 2 solo albums and a further two albums as lead singer with another band. I had no bloody idea what he was talking about. Roger kept asking me which of his solo songs I liked best and I had to pretend to lapse into a coma to avoid answering him. I really will have to set a day aside and listen to them. In fact I think I'll make a note in my diary just now and keep that day free. F.M. 25th NOVEMBER 1991 Keep day free to listen to Roger's solo albums. F.M. |

Panchgani, re: >Like you, dudeofqueen has less than 250 posts and is a low on the QZ totem pole as a "Bohemian" ... Easy pickins' Not sure what my post count has to do with it..........as explained on another thread, I lost my log-in some time back and had to create a new account......... Hope that helps. Just simply trying to resurrect a tiny bit of humour with so little news or genuine Queen activity to discuss. Wouldn't it be interesting, though, to speculate on who could make up the "Unknowns" in this fictitious call? Would anyone be interested in a new band project from Brian? |
Togg 27.05.2016 08:17 |
If you read any of the guitar or drum based magazines many young and old well known players list Queen as their inspiration, so I suspect were he to put a call out there would be a long list of people that would like to work with him. However having played in a band myself for over 30 years I can say it's as hard as a marriage to find the right chemistry, I was lucky, we have basically been the same group for decades, Brian trying to find the same chemistry he had in Queen could be very diffcult. Having said that if the likes of the folk from the Foos were free I bet they'd jump at the chance again, they loved it before, so I'm sure folk are out there that would got for it. |

Togg, re: >Brian trying to find the same chemistry he had in Queen could be very diffcult. That would completely defeat the object, surely, given that he's STILL knocking about the Queen name with another vocalist and bass player. Perhaps, though, that's exactly why he doesn't bother - he's simply happy chasing around on the reputation of a band that no longer exists. You have to assume that he's no longer trying to be creative after what he perceived to be failure with Paul Rodgers. |

You have to assume that he's no longer trying to be creative after what he perceived to be failure with Paul Rodgers.... almost entirely because they used the Queen name. It certainly was not a bad album. There were 4 or 5 great tracks. Had they been called literally anything else, it would've been seen as a supergroup, and come out to critical acclaim. But since Brian wants to use the Queen name, then being a touring nostalgia act with the hit jukebox is all they'll be. He can do whatever he wants, and this was his decision. And look at the smile on his face every night - he's made the right choice. |
