Jefferson Airplane were one of the best bands of the 60s, and they're not mentioned enough. Their bass player contributed strongly to their 'sound', which I think really personified that decade.
I thought he was the guitarist, not bassist?
Anyway, to follow it up, Signe Toly Anderson, the lead vocalist before Grace Slick also died the same day.

Also - Bill Graham was their manager, and Queen played the Winterland, which he ran. Maybe Brian ran into Bill, and the magic potion was cast.
