anyone heard this yet??? the new album by The Darkness, that is......there's a preview of it available on their website, for the next few days, at least......it's just freakin excellent really :D
yeah. and it's "ok"...there's one or two decent tunes, but i think they've "lost" something
ffiw - i wonder if the newly sober/clean Justin is a little "dull"?
certainly Permission To Land and One Way Ticket were much better albums - if a little cliched, and Hot Cakes was, well more like Steaming Turds
I was going to give it a listen but decided to scoop my inner ear out with a shoe horn instead. It hurt like hell and I am now deaf but I really do think I did the best thing.
Pardon?

The new album sucks big time. I know it's not much of a critique, but it sums it up as best I can.
^^^ - and i was being nice. but on second and third listen, i doubt i'll give it much more time
least PTL and OWTTH had lots of humour and self-deprecation ...this has none of that....and it's a bit late in the day to start asking people to take you seriously, when you've been "Spinal Camp" for ten years!!!
at least the new drummer saw the light....didn't even stay for the tour eh? she saw the writing on the wall

isn't Rufus their new drummer?
Most certainly! I saw the footage from a show they did the other day.......he sounds pretty damn good! But I think the 'new drummer' he mentioned was Emily Dolan Davies, who joined to record the new album, then left....
Roger himself was at that show, btw :D
Really, though, there's only one song on Last Of Our Kind I kind of dislike....that being Roaring Waters, the tempo-change thing in the middle sounds kinda sloppy...Barbarian, Open Fire, Hammer & Tongs, Conquerors (with their bass player on vocals!) and Last Of Our Kind are all great....Mighty Wings is really interesting, sounds like Flash Gordon-era synths :D

Maybe there's less of that now, but they still don't take themselves totally seriously......cmon, there's a song about a barbarian invasion, and another with the line "gimme a hug on a sheepskin rug" :D

lots of big bands have recorded songs about invasions...ones that spring to mind are Zep, Queen & maiden
take your point re: the "rug" lyric tho

Wait a minute, what was the Queen song about an invasion?
OH never mind, White Man, right? lol, forgot about that song somehow.....
yeah...hehe - nice recovery.
here's some obvious ones
Led Zep - Immigrant Song
Iron Maiden - Run to The Hills
Queen - White Man
Elton John - Indian Sunset
Thin Lizzy - Emerald
Thin Lizzy - Black Rose - Roisin Dubh
Eagles - The Last Resort (sort of)
Neil young - Cortez the Killer
Europe - Cherokee
Cranberries - Zombie
Just to bump my own thread, there's now a "Deluxe Edition" of Last Of Our Kind, that just came out, with 4 bonus tracks, including their 2nd try at a Christmas song, "I Am Santa" (which I believe is the first Darkness studio recording featuring Rufus!) Check out the video for that one on youtube....nice 70s-style video quality! lol
I haven't got it yet, but one cool part is they put all the names of the people in their Facebook group/fan club in the liner notes......someone had a few pictures of those pages, and yep, I'm in there all right. They did the same thing with the first issue of the album, but I hadn't joined the group in time for that.
You have your name on the latest Darkness re-issue that has sold 12 copies????? WOW!!!! Please email me your address so I can send you a copy for your autograph!!!
