Thelonious Monk - Underground link
I know that's not what you meant, but it's a great cover!
Queen II and Made In Heaven are tied for the quality of the photography, IMHO
The Miracle for originality
News of the World as the one that appeals to me most
Personally I don't think that the Hot Space album is a great album. But in 1982 and still today I find the cover really stunning. In random order, albeit the number one spot is my favorite cover:
1. Queen II
2. News Of The World
4. The Game
5. Hot Space
A Kind of Magic, along with Live Magic, both plain boring and Kind Of Magic is utterly childish
It depends whether you mean just the cover or the full album presentation.
Before CD's you couldn't beat a decent gatefold album cover.
My favourite gatefolds are:
News Of The World, Two fabulous double sized pieces of art)
A Day At The Races (Love the lyrics in the middle and the quality card inserts.
A Night At The Opera (Ditto)
Queen II The gatefold emphasises the black and white.
A Kind Of Magic. ( I just like the design)
If it's just the front cover photo we're discussing.
Then its Queen II,
Made In Heaven.
I've never liked the Sheer Heart Attack cover, however in the Mick Rock book there are some alternate shots of the band and the one of them all laughing I really like.
I always like making lists and rankings and stuff.....and I actually was thinking about this a few days ago......I pretty much grew up with CDs and tapes, so I'm not taking the actual LP sleeves or whatever you call it into account here....
1. Queen II (simple, iconic!)
2. A Day At The Races (slim nod over Opera just cus I like the black and the font better)
3. A Night At The Opera
4. Hot Space (I think Brian or Roger once said they liked that cover, because it was so instantly recognizable)
5. News Of The World (a giant sad scary robot thing! even tho Stewie Griffin was always scared by it....lol)
3.A Kind Of Magic
4.News Of The World
2.A Day At The Races
1.A Night At The Opera
I like the Innuendo cover. It's artistic, but what does it have to do with Queen?
