Should Queen "fragments" be turned into Queen songs?
| Kayd 01.02.2015 09:49 |
This Wien Konzert interview is part of the Q+AL press promo but the part that interested me was the parts about Queen music. The entire interview is available here: buff.ly/1yXgczV Translation is via Google Translate. The interview before for the Vienna concert: Brain May, Roger Taylor and Adam Lambert about the new singer, the Mercury-heritage, the pitfalls of Michael Jackson duet, John Deacon and unreleased songs. ...... In the fall you released the duet There Must Be More To Life Than This by Michael Jackson ... May: I had some unfinished demos Freddie and Michael have recorded together in 1983 for her solo albums, and from this we have tinkered a real queen anthem. It was a bit like puzzle games or archeology. Taylor: These songs we had totally forgotten. But now we are glad that we found them. Because the world needs new Queen songs! Is there another unreleased songs? May: There are some demos and fragments, we may at some point you might publish. Taylor: There is also another version of the Jackson duet. A better, but we were not allowed to publish. The will be set on a new Jackson album. ..... There are some demos and fragments left to be published. I get the impression that there MIGHT be an attempt to convert these into new tracks. Do you think this is the right approach? Or should then just release these demos and fragments in their original form? I would prefer to here them unmangled and without a lot of "tinkering". |

As long as they keep the MIH quality, its ok. If they are going to keep the TMBMTLTT quality, then I hope those songs are not released unless they release them as demos, without Orbit or any low quality shit like that. |

i think an "Abbey Rd - side 2" type medley can be done nicely |

Would be cool to release a set of demos/fragments and along with reworked versions of these. One of the things I loved about the Beatles Anthology were the new songs but also the demos or songs with studio chatter or mistakes. Kind of like fly on the wall type stuff. Would love to hear something like this from Queen. It's there, look at some of the bonus tracks from the reissues, like It's A Beautiful Day or Dreamers Ball. Would be great to hear more of this. |

I like alot what William Orbit did with Let me in..... He brought a Freddie feeling to it little disco, little gay and little outlandish. Sounds a bit like an hommage to Living on my own/Mr Bad Guy album. I fucking love it darling : ) |

"Darling" = gay fan appreciation. Gotta say though. ... the LMIYHA corporate cola mix isn't bad. However the TMBMTLTT mix is practically HORRIBLE. I doubt it has its origins in displacing mercury. .. I think it's the result of being left to an under talented person. The song would and COULD HAVE garnered attention had the mix been great and appropriate. Seeing how bad it was I don't think anybody would care to even remember the shitty mix. At this point since they list the opportunity of claiming a NEW UNRELEASED QUEEN track they REALLY missed the mark. . A waste of effort. The song could have been hyped. Particularly the queen + Mj track. I'm guessing a bunch of untalented hacks who've inherited their position through nepotism had decided upon the William Orbit release and left it that way. It's pitiful coming from those incredibly talented guys. What a piece of shit. Fire your representative kinda shit. They didn't even PROMOTE the time length between new songs. What a travesty. The work resulting was a piece of half assed crap. Duck em. . * Fuck em. . Hacks. |

Don't let orbit within a million miles of any Queen demos !!!! I'd love to see an e.p. of final reworked demos, I'd include the fan mix, new York at last. Job done :-) |

"Taylor: There is also another version of the Jackson duet. A better, but we were not allowed to publish. The will be set on a new Jackson album." If I understood this correct, the "Queen mix" version of TMBMTLTT will be released on the next Jackson album ? |

If I understood this correct, the "Queen mix" version of TMBMTLTT will be released on the next Jackson album ?No I do not believe that MJs album will include TMBMTLTT. That was Freddie's song. There were three songs recorded by Freddie a.nd MJ - TMBMTLTT, "Victory" and "State of Shock". That later two were not Queen songs but written by Michael Jackson. (SOS was written by MJ and Randy Hansen.) Based on what I have read on the MJ sites, there will be a Michael Jackson-Freddie Mercury duet on a future Michael Jackson release using just Freddie's vocal -- "Victory" which Queen never recorded, but Freddie did record as a duet with Michael Jackson. It was Michael Jackson's song. As was the third song from the MJ-Freddie sessions - "State of Shock" which was released in 1984 with Mick Jagger and MJ on vocals. Oddly, The Jacksons 1984 album was call "Victory" but the title track never made the album. They are supposed to have recorded it. |

More homophobia? Really? |

"Be great to see a demo collection of some kind. " For as long as Brian May is alive this will never happen. He wants everything released to be just so and a demo is never gonna be that. |
| matt z 02.02.2015 19:05 |
Yeah. I deserve that. Any unusual displays of acrimonious verbiage, usually means I'm out of my gourd. But. I stand by my position that the orbit bit is truly awful. Particularly when advanced as a NEW release. |
| Heavenite 03.02.2015 05:49 |
I think there is another reason TMBMTLTT is a bit half-arsed. That is it seems to have been made to give Jacko a fair share of the recording time. It seems to play the first bit of the song which Jacko is on and then repeats his bit. The track has also been done as a guitar track rather than a piano track, so I reckon that is supposed to attract existing Queens to Brian's guitar playing. So I see why some people can't take this version, part of the reason being it's only a small part of the original song. But I don't mind the fact that they changed the core instrument over as I think Brian's efforts are definitely worthwhile. |

given Artists Formerly Known as Queen release Queen's live material from the Archives once every 10 years, we can safely assume that one would have to start traveling at the speed of light for a couple million of years before returning to Earth and seeing new studio album made from 'fragments'. Brian thinks in cosmic terms, you mortals. |
