In the late 70's I checked out a book from the local library which had some interesting pictures and an article on Queen from 1974. It's been nearly 40 years since, but I believe this is that book. I didn't turn up any mention of it when searching this forum so I thought I'd post this. I don't collect anymore but thought someone here might be interested. link
One seller, gadzooks_books,has this description of the book:
Articles and photos of some of the biggest stars in pop music at the
time (1974). Some of the featured artists are: Slade, Sweet, Alice
Cooper, Rod Stewart, The Osmonds, David Bowie, David Essex, Leo Sayer,
Elton John, Gary Glitter, The Carpenters, Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry, Eno,
Suzi Quatro, David Cassidy, Marc Bolan, Paul McCartney, Kiki Dee, Queen,
Alvin Stardust, Mott the Hoople, Mud, Roy Wood, and Medicine Head.
Shipping is $4 so they'll make a couple bucks that way. I just noticed that the content is from Disc Magazine, so maybe someone has the original article. I found this from December 1973, that could be the original. At the time, the pictures and article were great. Long before the interwebs. link
Depends when it was published in '74. There were interviews from DISC in 1973 - I have one by Ray Fox Cumming from July 28th, called 'Queen's Speech' (interview with Roger). There was loads of stuff in the DISC almost each week through March and April 1974, all by Rosie Horide (God bless her). They were in at least 12 copies of DISC that year, including the series of interviews, 'A Queen a week' with RH featuring a different member each week.... This paper is fairly rare on ebay - well getting the copies that they're in..... I'm still trying to collect back the big Japan tour article by RH from earlyish '75, that I used to have from back then...
The 70s were fantastic, so many brilliant groups around, Sweet, Slade, T.rex, Stones, Queen, Wings, Abba, E..L.O, Status Quo, etc......
There was always brilliant songs in the charts every week.
Looking at today's music well all i can say is what a tragedy, so much crap around with no decent melodies or vocals.
This is a discussion page so unless you want to sit there like a mute your suppose to discuss topics and that is what i do.
all discussions can not be positive some are negative, but thats life.
We all have opinions and even though you and many do not like my opinions they are actually people who share my opinions,
There is always 2 sides to a coin.
Master marathon runner: i agree 100% The 70s were possibly the best days in music.
We had the fun, glam, music, flares, high heel shoes etc.......
The groups were all brilliant and worked bloody hard for there money, not like today when bands like "One Direction"
who get fame and fortune over night via simon cowell.
Queen slogged there hearts out up and down the country until they got the break they were waiting for.
then as we all know David Bowie cancelled his appearance on Top of the pops and Queen were offered that slot.
That was the start of Queens amazing career.
It was said before that first TV appearance Queen were thinking of calling it a day and splitting up!
I would say that the best days in music were in the 1700.
Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Pergolesi, all those old english madrigal composers like Wesley... Those were the best days for music...
