Had the privilege of seeing Queen in New Orleans on Halloween night 1978, Oakland in 1978, Frankfurt and Essen in 1980 and Frankfurt in 1982. Also saw The Brian May Band in Birmingham, AL in 1993, Q+PR in San Diego in 2006 and Q+AL in Houston 2014. Just heard the podcast with Brian about the upcoming European tour, amongst other things, and while I loved all the Queen shows, and was super enthusiastic about the Q+PR collaboration and a bit skeptical about the Q+AL union I am tired of the constant selling that has to be done for the Queen+ events (especially the Q+AL shows). I really enjoyed the Q+PR concert in 2006 and may be one of the few folks that actually thought, from a musical standpoint, that The Cosmos Rocks was pretty damn good! I also enjoyed the Q+AL show in Houston in July 2014 but have to say that after attending that concert as well as watching numerous other concerts from the same collaboration there isn't the same spark or excitement there. The music is good, the production is good but it just doesn't make me cum (for lack of a better term). In any event, after listening to Brian this evening on part one of the podcast I have to say that I am super, extremely and utterly tired of him (and Roger) trying to make me think that Adam Lambert is a rock god - he's not. Please quote me - 3-5 years after their collaboration Lambert will be done, he will be nothing. God bless all of you and please understand that by making the comments above I have no intention of aggravating, hurting or otherwise disturbing anyone who likes the Q+AL performances - Brian and Rogers performances are to die for in them but AL is not my cup of tea. Carry on!!! |

Nope - I'm from Harvey, Louisiana!!! |

Harvey from Louisiana! Can't make that up! |
sgs8789 13.01.2015 20:08 |
I also hope you enjoy any Q+AL show's you attend in the European theater - it's just the constant selling of the shows that drives me nuts!! Thought AL did a spectacular job on quite a few song especially Love Kills and would like to hear him do "Let Me In Your Heart Again" - again it's the constant selling Brian and Roger do that kills me. |
sgs8789 13.01.2015 20:17 |
No, no, no you misunderstood - I'm not "Harvey from Louisiana" you goof (no harm intended) there is a city just outside of New Orleans, about 8 miles or so, called Harvey!!!! Check it out on googlemaps - see for yourself link I live in Harvey and work in New Orleans about 8 miles from my house. By the way New Orleans is a wonderful place - you can get all of the "big city" stuff for much less of the cost than you would normally encounter in a "really big city" but you can live pretty well here for a reasonable amount of income, provided you haven't been a bad boy and maxed out your credit cards!!! |
sgs8789 13.01.2015 20:44 |
FYI - the constant fighting about the Q+AL project isn't my deal. It isn't my favorite thing and I did enjoy the Q+AL Houston 2014 concert but all that crazy name calling and constant bashing isn't for me. Somehow, despite my best efforts, I've managed to mature after 52 years on this earth. Whether you like Queen or any of the Q+projects isn't the issue, it's the constant selling of them that Brian and Roger do that's the problem. If a Q+ project is good then it shouldn't require much selling very far past the beginning of the new +project but if Brian and Roger continue to sell it hard years after the fact, and I mean fuckin' selling it hard for years after the fact, then there may be a problem - look at it from that perspective. |
someonewholikesadam 13.01.2015 20:52 |
So funny, Harvey! I was just Facebooking my "Adam" friend who lives in Norco. We saw Adam in New Orleans and had the BEST time there! We got invited to his private "party" but that's another story! |
The Real Wizard 13.01.2015 21:20 |
^ definitely not Gerry. This guy is articulate. |
sgs8789 13.01.2015 21:44 |
Bohemian - thanks New Orleans is a cool town and is getting much better. Hurricane Katrina did a number on the whole region but overall I think the powers that be (i.e., politicians) used the recovery money in a fairly legitimate way (with exceptions, of course). Whether or not someone liked Queen (Freddie, Brian, Roger and John) or any of the various Queen+ projects is really irrelevant to me. What is important is that the original music is looked at as it was when it was released and does it still stand up today and I can say most of it is still relevant and it stands the test of time. For the most part I'd say a very large part, close to 90% of Queen's music still stands up today as good, if not great music. The did have some clunkers in the brew!! Those Queen+projects only serve to keep that original music in the public's consciousness which is good in the overall picture. As mentioned before, I saw Q+PR in 2006 and also Q+AL in 2014. Since Queen, in America, had not been seen since 1982 a chance to see Q+PR in 2006 was huge for me. Not sure why the 2006 venues were so un-attended but the show in San Diego on Apr 1, 2006 was big. I can still remember when it was just a few minutes before the concert proper that I looked at a lady next to me and said "I've been waiting for this for 24 years". Didn't say anything like that before or after the Q+AL concert in Houston 2014. While the Queen+AL show in 2014 was good I can't say that I had that same feeling before or after the show as I did for Q+PR in 2006 - can't explain it except that AL doesn't do anything special for me - he's a voice, nothing more, nothing less; i.e., nothing special about the guy whereas Paul Rodgers had a rock n' roll history behind him and Freddie Mercury was Freddie Mercury - nothing more having to be said in that regard. . |

link The Miracle - Rain Must Fall - link and Was It All Worth It - link Innuendo - Ride The Wild Wind - link or Innuendo - link Made In Heaven - My Life Has Been Saved - link and You Don't Fool Me - link Paul Rodgers wrote some of rock n' rolls greatest hits but with no offense intended Adam Lambert is a neophyte and Brian and Roger are using him simply as a voice. |

Yet when they play songs in the same way they did 30 years ago, people complain because they're not trying anything new. There's just no pleasing some people. |
Holly2003 16.01.2015 12:11 |
And some people are easily pleased. I'm not "complaining" that they've changed it, I'm commenting that it's rather crappy. |

Interesting how a thread *against* the constant selling of Adam Lambert can end up being full of constant selling of Adam Lambert. I literally cringe watching Adam's version. |
someonewholikesadam 16.01.2015 15:12 |
I didn't out it to be a "constant selling" thread. But I just don't get it. And neither do you. |
The King Of Rhye 16.01.2015 15:59 |
I did love Adam doing Save Me....nice how they changed the arrangement just a tad......... If you want to see/hear a really good version, check out "Queen Rock Montreal"........can't beat that one! (just heard Adam's got a new record deal....single in April, album in the summer....) |
someonewholikesadam 16.01.2015 16:35 |
Well, since this is the "Constant Selling" thread, I must keep up my job of constant selling. FINALLY! Intergalactic Sonic Boom Adam Lambert has announced his new record label (Warner Bros.) and his new album, which will be released “early summer.” As expected, he’s working again with Swedish mega-producer Max Martin, but unlike Adam’s debut album, Martin will have a hand in the entire production, as well as producer Shellback, who may or may not be a giant sea tortoise, I’m not sure. Adam talks to Billboard about the project. Here are some choice quotes: What was important to you in a new deal? Adam Lambert: Finding a home that was the right fit. As you know, leaving RCA was really due to creative differences. They are great people over there. I have a really nice relationship, but it didn’t feel like we wanted the same things with this next chapter, and so I chose to part ways with them. How did you, Max and Shellback reconnect? Lambert: I was working on demos and scheduled a meeting with them. They’re two of my favorite producers and at the very top of their game. I love everything they do, and was really excited to sit back down with them after having worked on For Your Entertainment. It was great to reminisce and laugh. It was an easy, humble, casual vibe, and when you’re in the studio, that’s what you want. I played them a song and we got very excited. They heard my personal growth, and lyrically, the things that I was trying to say. Long story short, they offered me a deal to be executive producers of this album, and that felt like a big moment. It’s been six years since America first saw you on Idol, what have you learned about the music business in that time? Lambert: When you come into this quickly with the trajectory out of American Idol, it’s really easy to see the business like a fan would: you don’t see the ins and outs of it. And you learn once you are in it. With Trespassing, I learned a lot about radio. I learned a lot about my fans through the years — the big picture of it and how you have to listen to them. Being on stage with Queen and remembering the most important things about music and performance are the most timeless things: it transcends trend and popularity contests. It is more about truth, emotion, honesty and the connection with the audience, the music and the moment. [The Queen tour] has been good for me on a confidence level. It’s made me feel like I’m on the right path, and humbled at the same time. I am stepping into a position that used to be occupied by the greatest frontman of all time. Trying to live to that legacy has been challenging and rewarding. There’s lots more at the link, including that the first single will be out in April. So … let the countdown begin, and we’ll ride this glitter rocket together! |

Fascinating. King Of Rhye: one could argue that Hammersmith 1979 is the best version on video. Though Brian kinda flubs the solo... |
The King Of Rhye 16.01.2015 17:10 |
I actually havent listened to Hammersmith 79 in ages....might have to do so again, one of these days..... I also love the version from Wembley, 12-8-80......lovely piano by Brian! |

Lambert - Fat Bottomed Girls in London (Day 1) 2015-01-17 ? The Daily Record said today that Queen’s show “was really special, a proper spectacular in every sense of the word and it was all down to one man. Adam Lambert.” “If he’d just tried to do a Freddie impersonation it would have been awful but the American singer was firmly his own man, with a charisma and star quality that couldn’t be denied. Lambert stole the show, helped in no small part by that incredible voice. Make no mistake, technically speaking alone, this guy leaves pretty much everyone in the dust. Seriously. He’s that good.” Read more at link |

And, Real Wizard, Adam is introducing me (and I bet a whole lot of others) to a whole catalog of lovely Queen songs that I never knew existed. That's a good thing! |
