Another Christmas present from me thanks to Bootluca who asked me to do these videos. He also provided the sources so thanks for that. These were very nice videos to work with. Particularly the first night (red jacket) since it had some extreme colour bleeding which was interesting to fix. It involved chroma shift and other tweaks but the result is good, in my opinion. The same applies to the 2nd night (white jacket) but to lesser extent since the bleed wasn't as extreme. Some of you are probably aware of the highest quality source of the white jacket performance, it has a big logo(s) in bottom right corner which says "1984" and "RAIDUE". My plan at first was to use the lower quality source Bootluca gave me and mask it in the corner of the higher quality video to produce the best no logo version. Unfortunately due to some frame mismatch (they were different broadcasts so the editor seemed to have edited the framing in both of videos a bit differently) and sync issues I decided to not bother with it and just process the no logo source which was slightly lower quality. Also. for the 2nd night (white jacket) I added a few seconds longer intro from another version so that the video is as complete as possible. I also synced a 2nd audio track to both videos - the studio version which I took from C_Matt's "The Works (HD Revision)". man you are great! yes somebody said here you sould work for Queen ...yep thats true..you would do a far better job than who's in charge now of video restoration...remember The great pretender documentary....remember the 1990 footage of Freddie and Mary's son...and the footage of his cat...they were pixelated very bad,,,,but u do a great job man!!!! |
BETA215 26.12.2014 01:36 |
Thank you so much! I think you (with C_Matt) should work at Queen Productions Ltd., along with the current employers. You would do an incredible job. |

thanks to you man! I don't think we can find a better version of this, these videos are taken from the videotapes on which was recorded the transmissions of 1984 The lineage is something like this: Original 1984 broadcast --> recorded on videotapes --> tranferred on dvd in 2014 --> wonderful restoration by Chief Mouse |

Good job done there! i love these two performances at sanremo 1984, freddie looked so relaxed and in charge. It is a shame these two performances were missed out from official Queen release Dvds as bonus tracks. |
Chief Mouse 26.12.2014 04:37 |
^ well, at least we have the Montreux 84 & 86 in great quality released on The Greatest Video Hits II :) |

Sure Montreux 1984 & 1986 were welcomed with open arms on the official Queen release Dvds. As Queen collectors we get greedy for everything to get a released, but sanremo 1984 should have got priority somewhere on a Queen release. Not many fans have seen that one! |

gerry wrote: It is a shame these two performances were missed out from official Queen release Dvds as bonus tracks.these performances are owned by the Italian RAI TV, so QP would have to buy the rights from the TV, but you already know the official speeches like "not worth buying things like this because they cost too much" ;) |

While I agree that these two TV-spots should be released - mostly for the sake of having a complete anthology of the band's work - they're not all that special. |
gerry 27.12.2014 04:56 |
I think foreign tv appearances from Freddie and Queen are worthy as long as it is good quality. In my opinion both nights are certainly worthy of a dvd release even as a filler or bonus material. |

84. not 86. The first minute or so of Radio Ga Ga is missing. I gave Chief Mouse the missing bit from a broadcast recording, unfortunately in crappy quality |

Thanks a lot for this Chief. Another great restoration. You keep doing things to these videos that i didn't know were even possible. |

On a side note, i didn't enjoy the extra audio track. This song is - in my opinion - one of the best Pop songs ever produced. In this version, i miss the light of the song, so to speak. I understand that some Queen songs can be tweaked according to people tastes, but i never felt that Radio GaGA was one of them. |
Gregsynth 28.01.2015 06:54 |
Thank you! |
hobbit in Rhye 01.05.2015 11:58 |
Based on the comparison pics it looks like a big improvement in quality. Thanks a lot, Chief. I agree with MrQueenFan that Radio Gaga is one of the best Pop songs ever produced ;) Listening to that song in a live concert and clapping hands together is gold. |
