What do you think are Queen's Best and worst concerts? Not just vocally, but overall! Mine are Best:Live Aid Worst:The Concert at Sun City Where Freddie lost his voice midway through and the rest of the show was cancelled. |
brENsKi 18.07.2014 10:11 |
Sun City is not the worst. and there are much better concerts than Live Aid - mainly from the Live Killers & Crazy tours...but also Seattle 77, Boston 76, manchester & coventry 75 and chicago 78, but that's just my opinion |
The King Of Rhye 18.07.2014 13:09 |
I don't really know about what the worst would be......I usually don't even bother to listen to shows that are said to be not that good! I think I have heard at least bits of a few shows where Freddie's voice was not in good shape....I think some of the Tokyo 79 shows are like that?? And best? That's tough to narrow down.....has to be the ones with good sound quality (at least vg+) and a good performance.....like 5-1-75 Tokyo.....and Chicago 78 (awesome quality, very cool performance of Brighton Rock, with a Hammer To Fall-like jam in the middle!)..... |
Jazz 78 18.07.2014 13:29 |
I personally like Montreal, Toronto and Chicago 78. Right in the middle of the tour and firing on all cylinders. Great performances! And I agree with Brenski, Boston 76 is fantastic! |

Brenski,i was talking about the one where Freddie lost his voice after 3 songs. |

The Keyword is NOT JUST vocally, but overall! The Sun City concert was alos bad because it only had 3 songs. |

But who's to say its the worst? |
Saint Jiub 18.07.2014 21:56 |
By your logic, Live Aid is one of the worst Queen concerts ever because it only had seven songs. Caviar and Cigarettes wrote: The Keyword is NOT JUST vocally, but overall! The Sun City concert was alos bad because it only had 3 songs. |

Caviar and Cigarettes wrote: The Keyword is NOT JUST vocally, but overall! The Sun City concert was alos bad because it only had 3 songs.Lets not hide behind words. Nobody is going to judge, especially a Queen concert, becouse John's playing wasn't particularly groovy that night or even if Brian messed up in two solos. The Best/Worst concerts is mainly down to Freddie's performance. Even worse, to what condition his vocal nodules were. I know it sounds awfully "flat" but to a great digree its the truth. |

Not sure you can tell from bootlegs what was a good show or not. So much of what makes a good concert is the experience of being there. Worst Queen concert I ever attended was at Birmingham NAC in 1980, it was the first ever concert at that venue and it just felt flat. Too big, too cavernous maybe but for whatever reason the band just didn't connect with me that night And I left a little disappointed, the only time that has ever happened to me at a Queen show. Best is harder to say. First night at Liverpool empire in 79 was special, Leeds in 82 was excellent, Brussels 2nd night in84 and Wembley 86 were all excellent. I saw other shows that were good, but those have the best memories for me. No doubt someone will point out that I'm wrong because someone was out of tune or Freddie's voice was shot, but when you're there, those things don't matter so much. Crazy tour 79 was my first Queen tour incidentally (2 shows), so I cant comment on any thing before then. For non Queen, or non Freddie Queen I loved Brian May at the Brixton academy. It was a great show but my abiding memory is walking back to the elephant and castle quite late at night carrying a load of inflatable hammers that were dropped on the first few rows at the end of the show. Its a long walk through a bad area but I was left alone, presumably because I must have looked like a nutcase. Never occurred to me to let the air out of them so they'd be easy to carry. Best Cross show I saw was at the Town and Country club, but I cant remember the year. It was the first Cross tour of the UK. I live in Canada now and all I can tell you from recent times is that the 2014 Montreal show was awesome, but the 2006 Toronto show gets the nod, not because it was a better show, it definitely wasn't, but Paul Rodgers held my wife's hand and sang Reaching out directly to her, and that is a memory that lives for a very long time. (Absolutely the best seats I ever had for any seated show, by anyone). Wish I could still go to multiple shows but Montreal just 5 days ago was probably the last time I'll ever see them live. |

The worst was 1982 in Dortmund. I was only 16 and my parents didn't let me go :( The best was 1984 in Dortmund. I was 18 by then :) |

Brenski wrote: it was November 1979 - I was there. and it was a good concert - didn't feel "flat" to me. my first proper gig after starting work. No, I'm talking about the first NEC show in 1980, not the Crazy tour show. I think it was the first concert at the new hall there, hall 7 I think it was called then. It only opened in 1980 It's probably called The LG O2 Vodaphone Carlsberg Palace now. So it wasn't the first at the NEC, just the first in that hall. (I think it has 20 venues now). Anyhow, you made me go check the web and it was December 5th 1980. They did Flash and The Hero that night which I remember being quite excited about. It was the only show I saw on that tour which was unusual but they only did 4 UK dates. 2 Birmingham and 2 London. I was a year shy of being able to travel around Europe to see shows which I did in 82, 84 and 86. I wish I was young again... :-( |

I was at the NEC that night, thought it was brilliant, were you not feeling under the weather? Great memory of doing 'mustapha' , full version, not just the intro, a la' live killers. |

My favourite - Hammersmith Odeon 1979. Perfect setlist. Perfect performance. Great singing. Great guitar playing. Great bass playing. Great drumming. The second and third places are shared by Rainbow Theatre 1974 (March show) and Golders Green Hippodrome 1973 |

ITTWWC was not billed as "Queen" it as billed as "Mercury & May" although based on the current "May & Taylor" = Queen formula, i suppose you have a point (of sorts) |
fjac1980 19.07.2014 21:35 |
the Best: Montreal 1981 and Hammersmith 1975-1979 The Worst: Tokio 1979 ( Freddie's voice was in very bad shape) |

Hyde Park 1976 was pretty bad. I suspect there may have been some issues with their monitors too, not just the PA. Add to that their nerves and you have one of the worst performances of the year. They were technically in good shape, but here they seemed kind of nervous and delivered a pretty bad (and odd) performance. |
