Talking about how gay or camp was Lambert's performance on Killer Queen i 've tried to distinguish what was so different with Freddie's over the top performances.
Watching Dragon Attack- Montreal it hit me.
Freddie's body language is like constantly "giving it and receiving it" ...if you know what i mean.
Its gay as hell cos he is actually interpreting in body language what could only happen to male to male intercorse.
That's actually just gay. Not camp. Not femminine. Just homoerotic in a very raw, not pretentious sort of way.
Now either you are straight, bi or gay there is a certain magnetism to that because it actually deals with instict.
And homoerotic instict after Sigmund Freud's dwelling into subconscious is an evident part of human nature although most of the times it transcends to other forms of expression.
No offence meant but I find this topic meaningless because you are seeing things based on hindsight knowledge that Freddie was gay.
If you do not know the background of all the four players in the I Want To Break Free video, would you say all of them dressed in women's outfits are gay ? Especially Roger because he was the most cute of them all ?

I would assume that this person is a heavy player on the "bed field".
I couldn't tell for sure the nature of his sexuality, but i would undertand that a man like that sends signals that is out of the realm of "heteronormativity", if you are famililiar with the term.
It's not about labeling him gay or straight ( those are to an extent social conctractions anyhow) but about interpretating the cues of body language and how those connect better to same-sex or different-sex "feedback (sexual) energy".
Roger beeing a convincing school girl has nothing to to do with sexuality. His face features ( small nose, bone stracture, eyes shape) just happen to be on the cute side. And every cute man, just makes a more convencing girl/woman, when in drag. This one is very simple.
Dear Stelios,
Your observations of what maybe deemed as gay behaviour? or not? This is immaterial to what most fans/people thought, we just enjoyed the music and the band's great performance in this gig.
Freddie said it was about the music. Questioned in Rio the interviewer mentioned about IWTBF being dedicated to the gay world Freddie dismissed this out of hand and mentioned it was a song for everybody and not one single society. The Band/Music entertained everybody.
I think you should take your theories/indulgences to a like minded forum/website. We the fans are not interested who is the postman? who is the postbox?
Martin Packer wrote: One of the reasons we enjoyed the performance, though, might be the sexual aspect. True of much of what Freddie did, I suspect.
Thank you Martin.
Music and art are complex themes.
Even to a strict music view on things psychoacoustics get in the way and make things "multileveled".
Dwelling into it or ever making speculations dosen't make any real harm.
Except to those who want to keep those concepts untuched and afraid that a little analysis can spoil all the magic.

Dear Band Forever,
"who is the postman? who is the postbox? "...Did i mentioned anything about Freddie's sexual encounters or what he did on them?
Mind you i happen to be a dedicated hard-core fan for 20 or more years. And yes MAINLY becouse of the music.
My other interests (sexuality theories, gender identity themes,LGBT issues) happen to boardercross with my favourites band history.
And either anyone likes it or not, Mercury happen to be a very unique/interesting specimen of "human behavior" especially to the fields mentioned becouse of his compexity.
I can understand that this may be off-putting to the "just music lovers" of the band, still it remains an interesting field.
I suggest you don't read such topics if it spoils the magic for you.
Anyhow i am not bringing some "hidden truth".
It's just another persons view on things.
@Stelios, at least you are trying to start interesting conversations and aren't just doing "Top 10" lists. I, for one, enjoy reading your comments even if I don't agree with everything you write.
To be fair, one of Freddie's friends said roughly the same thing; that his stage behaviour was like cruising in a gay bar! It's in the Alfie Boe doc...

First crap, then that...i don't know where to stand?
By the way i was thinking the same thing "stage behaviour was like cruising remark, from Alie Boe doc" while i was writting the post.

Under this stupid criteria, Alice qualifies: platform shoes, tights, mascara, link
especially from 3:00
I always thought of it as showmanship. Stupid me......

IT IS showmanship ! But showmanship may contain a hell of a lot of ingredients.
And who said that only gay artists used camp or homoerotic gimmicks in their repertoire ?
