Hi folks, here is a german article about the Stirling University 74 show, as part of the "QUEEN - II" Tour.
The article named Edinburgh as the place of the show. Almost nobody in Germany knows where Stirling is , so I am assuming that they simply mentioned Edinburgh ( Distance between Edinburgh-Stirling 38 Miles or 60 km).
Today we introduce England's new Supergroup "QUEEN"
THEIR SHOW WAS TOO HOT
For about four years QUEEN work as warm up acts for Superstar Bands. Now they join the circle - because of their Hit "Seven seas of Rhye"...
Freddie Mercury is acting wild on the stage, playing with his microphone, shaking his long black hair and sings "Seven seas of rhye"
Then it happens - about one hundred fans entering the stage at this Edinburgh show. Freddie escaped with a jump off the stage. Roger Taylor (drums) and two roadies didn't have that much luck. The fanatic fans run over them and they get injured, so the show ends up in hospital for them.
"That's crazy" said Freddie after the mob has calm down.
They couldn't go on with the show cause their sound system was heavily damaged in the riot.
" We play together for four years now, startet in small clubs, and since about a year, we work as warm up acts for harder rock groups like "Mott the hoople"...but I never seen anything like this. I have to be more gentle and don't drive the people that wild - otherwise we get banned from british stages. And that we don't want to."
Responsible for all that - Their Hit "Seven seas of rhye" Within two weeks that song gave them the status as the new "QUEEN" of the british rock camp.
" Now we want to get famous in Europe and America - but without any riots. We don't support that kind of things. Our song is about peaceful and nice things in a fantasy land called rhye" said Freddie.
Look out for a full colored Queen feature in our next print.
There's some controversion in this article...
1) SSOR was performed for the first time in Spring 1974 (Queen II Tour).
2) Queen performed in Edinburgh for the first time in 1976 as one of warm-up shows before Hyde Park performance.
There are a few points I should have mentioned...The german language changed...for example the word "hardrock" doesn't exsist..they really call it "harder rock groups" back in the days.. Of course I know " support act " but in the article it's called "Anheizer" so" warm up act fits. I have to rebuild some quotes because they were cut at some point in the report and later they used the second part.
And of course my english isn't flawless.
SCAN Request....I work on a solution that articles can be requestet via email....because of german laws I do not upload perfect scanned articles.
