just playing you nearly did me in by ian hunter for first time in ages. forgot what a great song that is! even if queen hadn't provided help its still a decent song but so glad they did. got me thinking if they did any more on ians album? and how did it come about that they provided backing?
someone told me that the rest of the album wasn't that special. something American boy wasn't it?
Tell your friend to go have their ears checked out. All American Alien Boy is a great album by Ian Hunter. Along with YNDMI, my fave song is this one called "Irene Wilde"
It is a super record! probably my favourite from ian hunter.
I believe queen left london in january 76 to start with the "opera" tour in the usa, in the same plane they traveled was also traveling trudy, ian hunter's wife..,and when in new york they were invited to visit the studio were hunter was recording the lp. the song was called at first,on a demo,"silver needles" before the queen vocals..and changed to "you nearly did me in" after the freddie, roger and brian vocals.
great song.

Indeed ! And thanks for the background on the track the Queenies sang on.
correction:
sorry ,my mistake, the song was to be called "weary anger" in fact there is a demo of it on the remastered cd album.
Ian Hunter: "they were at the studio( Electric Lady , NY) for an hour before i knew they were there, then someone told me they were outside. They'd sat there for ages and Freddie said, isnt there anything we can do? ..so i had one particular track that i was going to put girls on and i said, well you can do this:Wonderful chaps.Fred is sorely missed"
Brian May: "he wanted the "Queen treatment" on the harmonies, and he GOT IT!
