Could Harry Potter star replace Sacha Baron Cohen? It has now emerged that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe could be in line to play Freddie Mercury in the upcoming biopic of the iconic Queen frontman's life, following the departure of former leading man, Sacha Baron Cohen. Earlier this year, the Borat and Ali G star's manager confirmed his departure from the project, stating that his client had quit the move due to 'creative differences'. Cohen had be signed on to star as Mercury since 2010. The biopic is being produced by GK Films. He is believed to have clashed with producers on a number of issues, with fans suggesting a disagreement over the movie's certiicate was the biggest issue between the two parties. It was then reported that that insiders behind the film told Digital Spy that the movie is "still very much alive." Now, The Daily Star report that sources claim that 24-four-year-old Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe could play Mercury. “Daniel has been told the part is his if he wants it," a source said.“Despite his youth, Daniel impressed movie bosses with his portrayal of gay poet Allen Ginsburg in this year’s movie Kill Your Darlings." They added: “Plus, he’s closer in height to Freddie than Sacha, who’s much taller. Daniel can really sing, too.” Watch Brian May discuss Sacha Baron Cohen's former role in Mercury movie below Original Queen member Roger Taylor was confirmed as music supervisor on the movie, while Graham King, Tim Headington, Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal are producing the project alongside Queen Films. link |

doesn't really matter does it? whoever the fuck gets the role, they'll never be good enough - the attitudes round here are unbelievably sh*tty. what's wrong with "wait n see"? criticise the finished product if you have to - but NOT the selection of the lead-role - because so far (by my reckoning) none of you nay-sayers have made any kind of docu-biopic that i've ever heard of - let alone any decent movie... anything short of "Freddie playing himself" is not enough for some cretins..... |

(Gonna sit back with some popcorn and enjoy this second verbal barrage post in two days) *hopes it gets as insulting as the iheart one about "fun" (Cross your fingers and wait for the first "cunt"!) |

He kinda looks similar to Fred and I think he would've pulled the acting off too. This guy? He looks nothing like him whatsoever, not by the furthest stretch of the imagination. They could at least try to cast it right. This would be an absolutely shit choice of casting. |

Lmao. Now all we need is Emma Watson to play Mary, at least I could knock one out while watching the movie.... |

"it's a kind of magic..." no... but srsly... ... * pretty speechless* ... *still speechless* ... wtf ? |

If Emma is gonna play Mary, i hope they gonna focus on the early 70's :p |

The film won't happen, there are far too few people interested in it for it to make money, which is the ultimate goal of any film. |

I thought Queen and Freddie were kinda popular in the world... Anyway, lost a lot of my interest in the film, following the issues revealed by SBC. It's a shame Maylor are so closely involved, it really shouldn't be like this. |

they should dropped the freddie film, he doesn't need it, he is a legend anyway |
Cruella de Vil 22.09.2013 17:50 |
I think this could be a cult classic! They could get the Voldemort guy to play Barry Sheffield, Freddie always thought that the guy was a shark, so, just a few more CGI tricks and "bingo"! Maybe the draco guy could play Roger,. Just think of the marketing possibilities! |
Nick Browning 22.09.2013 20:15 |
at least they don't get ben affleck |
Adam Baboolal 22.09.2013 21:33 |
If this is true, it's a real shame. Looks aside, I don't think I could take Daniel's acting seriously in this kind of role. Coming back to looks though, when looking at this kind of role, D. looks like a late teen. I can't take this news seriously. At least with Sacha, I thought it was interesting. Possibly even clever casting. And if it's true that S. left the role because it's going to be a PG rated retelling of Freddie's life, I don't see anything interesting coming out of this anymore. |

I think to sell the role of FM you have to at least look the part otherwise why not just have a woman play the role for that matter. Daniel Radcliffe, even with the best makeup wouldn't even come close to FM, maybe Roger, or John, not to mention that DR will probably be seen as Harry Potter for the rest of his life. This reminds me of when Jim Carrey was cast to play Andy Kaufman in the movie, Man in the Moon". The overall movie was Ok, but all I could think of when watching the movie was that Jim Carrey looked like JC playing Andy Kaufman. I never felt like I was watching a movie about Andy at all. There has to be some decent Indian actors out there that can do a good job on this, if this movie is to succeed. The singing part is irrelevant as long as the actor can lip sync. As to even try to sing like FM is going to bring the bar down even lower unless they want to go so far as to cast one of the guys in a Queen tribute band in the lead role. Anyway, JMO. |

I don't know if he can sing, but he's a much better actor than the HP movies would suggest. |

Probably a slightly controversial suggestion, but I've always thought Russell Brand has a striking look of a young Freddie and he isn't a bad actor. |
noorie 23.09.2013 12:41 |
Actually, yes. And like Freddie, he is quirky and charismatic as well. But probably is too strong a character himself to portray somebody else. |

Yeah, and Voldemort guy as the walking talking AIDS aka Death (if you've seen All That Jazz you know what I mean). Seriously though. They could hire an unknown actor that would look fairly alike with some light prosthetics applied or use multiple actors for different time periods. If it's just another "Behind the Candelabra" about brilliant musician and stage performer, also closeted gay guy "struggling" in his mansion with all the fame and money, switching lovers just like that... I'm pass. I've seen that movie before. Fred must be portrayed like a real guy. With an actual backstory, childhood and parents. No, I don't want "Disney-fied" PG-13 Freddie movie, but it shouldn't be that in your face tell-all tabloidesqe-extravaganza all about his dirty laundry, Mercury so hated that especially towards the end. And it should be slightly more of a Queen movie, not just Freddie movie. He wasn't an one-man band after all. Today the headlines Tomorrow hard times And no one ever really knows the truth from the lies And in the end the story deeper must hide Deeper, and deeper and deeper inside. |

I'm not really interested in watching a movie about Freddie. Might as well just watch The Great Pretender. It was a wonderful and touching documentary. |
